I never have paid that much attention to this.  How close are these to what the committee eventually comes out with?  Obviously, I'm talking about the last update to these projections when the season is over.

Most of the time they are pretty close.  Usually only miss a couple of teams and seeding is usually within one seed.  This probably doesn't apply to all 103 brackets at Bracket Matrix, but it is a pretty good guess as to who at least is in the conversation.

  2. No real movement in the projections this week.  Not much of a surprise since Nebraska didn't play any games this week.

Dropped to an 11 at ESPN - last team with a bye.  Playing Texas Tech in Pittsburgh.

Stayed an 11 at CBS Sports - last four in, so playing opening round in Dayton against Utah for the right to play Oklahoma in Brooklyn.

Dropped to an 11 seed at Bracket Matrix.  On 101 of 103 brackets.  Highest seed is an 8, lowest is a 12.

  3. ESPN's latest bracket has them a 10 seed playing Colorado State in Omaha.

Their computer numbers are 51 at Ken Pom, 48 at Bart Torvik, 53 in the NET, 52 in the BPI & 38 in the SOR.

NET has them 3-5 against Q1, 3-3 vs Q2 & 11-0 vs Q3-4.  They have one Q1 game left (at OSU - NET 71), 2 Q2 Games (at Indiana - NET 100, at Michigan - NET 108).  All three home games are Q3.

If we go 5-1, we are going to be an 8 or 9 seed.  I still think we make the tournament at 3-3 with a win in the B1G tournament or at 4-2 regardless of our conference results.   21 is our number.... always has been.

3-3 probably gets the Huskers in, but they can't afford to lose any home games.  All three remaining home games would be considered a bad loss.

It would be better to pick up a road win to go 4-2 & a win in the B1G tournament would be a bonus to show the selection committee that they can win away from PBA.

  5. ESPN updated their bracket today playing Colorado State in Pittsburgh.  Huskers are an 11 seed & one of the last 4 byes.

Buie was especially animated last night and gestured towards Keisei quite often. Wish we could've had Keita set a hard screen for just one play on that one.

It would have been interesting to see the reaction in that scenario if the races were flipped.

Tominaga had a better game last night than Buie had here, so I don't get the point of mocking him.

Northwestern is like the kid on the playground that never wins and when they do, they don't know how to handle it and act like complete a-holes.

I did some digging and you are correct that for some odd reason, the rules for NCAA Men's basketball allow the timeout to reset 10-seconds to pass half-court. Oddly, NCAA Men's basketball is the only level that resets as the Women's rules do not allow a reset after a timeout, nor do lower levels.

NCAA Men are also the only ones that play haves instead of quarters.

I'm not so sure about that. We were called in violation for the exact same scenario earlier in the year. Yesterday, Northwestern was not.

Straight out of the 23/24 NCAA Mens rulebook.

    Quote

    Section 10. 10-Second Backcourt
The 10-second count shall begin when a player legally touches the ball in the
backcourt, except on a rebound or jump ball. In such case, the 10-second count
shall start on player control. Once the 10-second count begins, an inbounds
player or the player’s team shall not be in continuous control of a ball that is
in the backcourt for 10 consecutive seconds. The ball gains frontcourt status
    RULE 9 / V iolations and Penalties 89
when it touches the frontcourt, touches a player or an official in contact with
the frontcourt, or when both feet of the dribbler and the ball contact the
frontcourt. The 10-second count shall be reset on all stoppages of the game
clock except when the defense causes the ball to be out of bounds, the offense
retains the possession after a held ball, or there is a technical foul assessed against
the offensive team. The offensive team will always have a reset of the 10-second
count if the team is charged a timeout.

I don't think anyone is looking for refs to help exactly. I think most fans just want consistency on both ends of the court and throughout the game/season. As an example from yesterday, the most obvious error was the 10-second backcourt violation late in the second half. Northwestern got trapped 5 or so seconds after inbounding and called a timeout. After the timeout, they inbounded the ball as we pressed and didn't cross half until there was ~16-17 seconds left on the shot clock (clearly 3-4 seconds after the 10 second rule). Fred and the bench went nuts, refs just ignored it. Earlier in the year, we were called on the violation in the same exact scenario.

Northwestern's hot shooting along with some of our poor decision-making got Northwestern the win. We made a run for it the last 5-6 minutes, but just couldn't string together enough plays to overcome the hump.

Buie mocking Tominga was kind of sad/pathetic

After a timeout, the 10 second rule resets.  If the ball goes out of bounds and the team keeps possession the 10 seconds does not reset.  Stupid rule, but that's the NCAA for you.

  10. The B1G hasn't helped them much with their schedule.  They have played 11 games in 35 days between 1/3 & last night.  Including the Michigan game on Saturday they will play seven games in 31 days to end the season.  I understand that they are young and in really good shape, but that many physical games in that short time period takes a toll.  They are the only team that has played 13 conference games.  Iowa plays Penn State tonight & it will be both teams' 12th game.  No B1G games on Friday, so Nebraska will be the only team at 14 by the end of the day on Saturday.

Nice!  I thought it opened at 5.5.

I just don't think the Illini game has much to do with this line.  But I will be betting this game.  Just not sure what I want to do yet.

Hopefully it (IL game) shows the Huskers how much effort they have to give in road games in the B1G if they want to avoid being blown out.

Ehhhh, fans overreact to that stuff, oddsmakers and hardcore gamblers do not (or should not, I totally overreact to stuff like that!!)

NW has not lost a conference game at home, have they?  I don't know for sure.  NU sucks on the road and it took a 14/14 night from the FT line and an insane night from Kesi to get to OT with Illinois.

Odds makers originally set the line at 3.5.  ESPN BPI predicts Northwestern by 4.7, Bart Torvik has Northwestern by 4.3 with a predicted score of 75-71.

Based on what is above I'd say the irrational fans are driving the line.  I'm not saying computer predictions are perfect, but they should be impartial.

The only home game Northwestern has lost this season is to Chicago State (the game after they beat Purdue).

  13. Huskers have eight games left in the regular season.  Two are Q1(at Northwestern, at Ohio State), two are Q2 (at Indiana, at Michigan) & four are Q3 (home games against Michigan, Penn State, Minnesota, Rutgers).

They can't afford to lose any home games & it would be nice to see them at least split the road games.  Their current NET is 52, KenPom is 47, Bart Torvik is 48, BPI is 52, BPI SOR is 32.

They are 3-4 against Q1, 3-3 vs Q2, 10-0 vs Q3-4.  They have the easiest remaining schedule in the B1G (80th).  Northwestern is 2nd easiest at 68.  Michigan has the hardest at 6th.

  14. Huskers currently 5.5 point underdogs (line started at 3.5) with an over/under of 142.5.  ESPN BPI gives them a 31.9% chance to win.

Keita is available for emergency use only, unsure about Rice, Lloyd & Coleman.  Ulis is suspended.

    GBR!

OK...how does ESPN have us as a 9 seed....but yet squarely on the bubble with more work to be done?  I would think a 9 seed would not be on the bubble.

I think we are on the work need to be done because there is over a month to go, so a 9 seed could crash at the end of the season and not make it.  It's also two different people doing the lists.  Basically their work is to not lose games they should win.

  16. Huskers are in "Work to do" on ESPN's bubble watch.

    Nebraska Cornhuskers
Home wins over Purdue (by 16!) and Wisconsin hold the promise of ushering Nebraska into the field of 68 if the Cornhuskers can take care of business the rest of the way. At 16-7, Fred Hoiberg's group has studiously avoided bad losses and continues to score about as many points as it allows in Big Ten play. That should get the job done. For now, Nebraska is showing up in mock brackets as a No. 10 seed. (updated Feb. 6)

  17. CBS Sports' most recent bracket has the Huskers as a 10 seed playing BYU in Salt Lake.

Palm also has Gonzaga out despite their gaudy NET ranking.  This is in reply to the comparison of Gonzaga vs Nebraska above.

  18. Huskers sitting at 52 in the NET, 46 at Ken Pom, 50 at Bart Torvik, 53 in ESPN's BPI & 30 in BPI SOR.

ESPN will update their bracketology tomorrow morning, I think CBS should update this afternoon.  Bracket Matrix should update sometime today, but I have no idea when.
