this is exactly what I've been preaching when I've been talking about why last night's game was so important. Everyone seems to think getting to 21 wins somehow is just "fine" but the reality is Nebraska is currently 0-3 vs RPI top 25, 1-5 vs RPI top 50, and 3-7 vs RPI top 100 teams. That is not even remotely CLOSE to a NCAA tournament caliber team. Nebraska not only has to win out in order to make the conversation interesting (would put them at 23-8) but would probably need another quality win in the B1G tournament to have a legit argument. If Nebraska wins out they will be 0-3 RPI top 25, 1-5 RPI top 50, 6-7 RPI top 100. And that is assuming Minnesota doesn't continue to tank and fall out of the top 100 RPI which would move Nebraska to 4-7 vs the top 100 if they win the next one vs the Gophers too. That just isn't going to cut it, especially with a SOS of 90

While I don't disagree with your analysis, when was the last power conference team with 23 wins to not make the dance?  I think 21 wins puts them in the conversation, 22 probably gets them in and 23 would be a lock.  If you look at the "last 4 in" teams the last several years, most of them don't look like NCAA tournament teams.

Funny you say you’d boo him  if he came back. Sounded to me like he had overwhelming support from the fans when he checked in against Michigan, and I’m glad he’s back.

I was at the game.  There were a few boos along with the cheers.

Moos said that Miles is doing a good job, he has good recruits coming in and the seats are full.  I would say that he is not on the hot seat right now.

Probably not on the hot seat right now, but definitely was at the beginning of the season.  Seat is still probably warm, but could go either way depending on how the season ends.

Michigan and the Illini play different types of defense.  It wasn't that the Huskers played "bad" it is simply what the Illini defense does to teams.  Teams average 19 TO's a game against them and I think NU only had like 10.  If anything they played okay.

Michigan on the other day will slice you up with spacing.

Maybe shoot better would have been a more accurate way to put it.  They can't air ball wide open 3's and miss dunks against Michigan or it will get ugly.

Well, I guess he will have time to get in the weight room and the gym to improve.

I guess there are a couple of benefits to leaving now, he could get to know and practice with his new team.  The NCAA could always give him a waiver (like they did for Copeland), but counting on the NCAA to do anything specific is like trying to herd cats.  Short of a waiver, he wouldn't be eligible until the 19/20 season, but would have 2 years of eligibility left.  Even if he stays, I think a redshirt year could do wonders for him.

It's more advantageous for Jordy to transfer now because it moves up the timetable in which he'd be able to play next year.

Actually it's not.  He has attended classes and played in a game in the 2nd semester.  He will not be eligible for the second semester wherever he goes (if he goes).  He would end up sitting a year and a half before being able to play.

Taylor should be an "off the bench" option only. I love what Allen has been doing but his game is also very close to Watson. Gill gives you a shooting option that i think would add some nice balance.

Cant remember what game it was where Taylor had like 3-4 open 3's.. Our offense could be great for a guy who can hit an open shot because of the slashing abilities.

I really think Watson needs to work on moving without the ball and getting open looks. Allen does that well.

Still a bit surprised that McVeigh is on a milk carton. I get that he plays the 3/4 and we have an abundance of guys there but with the slashing ability, you would think a guy who can hit a corner 3 would be able to get some minutes.

The problem with McVeigh is that he is a HUGE on-ball defensive liability.  He's too slow to guard 3's when they drive and not strong enough to guard 4's in the post.  He does provide a spark on the offensive end.  The problem is that he can give you a quick 6 points, but he gives up 8.  He is really good at help defense because he's got quick hands, but everyone just gives the ball to his man because his first step is slow or they can just back him down for an easy layup.

Dang, only 39th?  There must be a big of a log jam coming up...I bet he finished his career in the top 15?

There is a log jam with his next 100 points he will move into 29th passing Mikki Moore with 986.  Stu Lantz is 15th with 1269.

Jackson was supposed to be a big time player for them this year but sort of seems like he has flatlined a bit and never took that "jump"

He was trying to play through a shoulder injury so his shooting was off, but he was still their leading rebounder.  He is going to have (had?) surgery on that shoulder which is why he is out for the season.

  10. Looks like the only chance for a good win left on the schedule is at Purdue.  There are a couple of chances for "decent" wins against Michigan & Maryland at home and at Minnesota.  Since we already beat Minnesota, there are diminishing returns on a second win.

With the weakness of the conference we will probably have to end up with 20 or 21 wins to feel comfortably in the NCAA's.

Size like his is a skill in college basketball when used the right way.

Size can be a skill, but when you are playing against the Stetson's of the world who don't have size and try to back someone down with force the just flop and the ref's rarely recognize the flop.  They just call a charge and go to the other end of the floor.  I think that might be part of why Jordy looked better at the end of last season - he was playing against similarly sized players.

  12. I agree that I'd rather see them in the NCAA's.  But I think that what Jordy lacks - mostly good footwork, is something that he will only get in practice with coaches around.  Once the season is done, the only person he will have to practice against who has similar size is Tanner Borchardt.  As much as I like Tanner, I don't think going one on one in a player organized practice will do Jordy much good.  They won't stand back and watch his footwork (or lack thereof) and help him like coaches will.  He seems to have a soft shooting touch, but because of horrible footwork takes way too many off balance shots.  I also think that Nana & Thor would be better with more practice time.  They can both shoot the ball and Nana can jump out of the building, but both have issues on the defensive end, which doesn't get better in pick up games or player organized practices.

As great as it would be to make the NCAA's this year I don't want this to be a one year thing.  I think getting some of the younger players practice time would be helpful and put the Huskers in position to be in the NCAA conversation every year.  Making the dance like 13/14 and then not getting to .500 the next three years isn't something anyone wants to repeat.
