  1. My favorite part about this thread is that a few posters forgot that with the playoff, teams can play up to 15 games now.

So when you predict Nebraska to finish 14-0 you're actually saying that they are 12-0, then win the Big 10 title to improve to 13-0, then don't get selected for the playoff, then win the Rose Bowl and complain about the system being unfair BCS style.

In all fairness, that is a bold prediction.

  2. Two ways you can look at this.

Positive: Nebraska had THAT many turnovers and still won 60 percent of its games. Think how much better they will be when the turnovers improve.

Negative: Nebraska was lucky to win as many games as it did with THAT many turnovers. Things will balance out now and they will be bad.

Going forward, I think it's the positive one. Glad Frost is in charge now.

At the time of early games, yes. But not the final poll before the bowl games. No way was Va Tech the #2 in the country, but ESPiN relentlessly promoted them. Michael Vick was a media darling.

ESPN liked Vick, but ESPN/ABC/Disney would have much rather had Florida State vs. Nebraska. It would have been the two best teams of the 1990s playing in the final national title game of the decade. It also would have been the first time the two powers had played each other in six years.

My bad! I had it listed in my spreadsheet I keep track of, not sure why I forgot to list that!

It happens. It was almost 20 years ago now, and like I said, I try not to think about that game much. As a high school kid, I was convinced Nebraska would win. Whoops.

Since 2000 (Only current Power 5 + Notre Dame teams included =65)

BCS Bowls / New Years 6 Bowls (non playoff games)

    Nebraska has 0

    Iowa has 3

Neither has a NC appearance or playoff appearance, obviously

I'm sure many of us have erased it from memory because it was a blood bath, but Nebraska did play Miami in the Rose Bowl/BCS National Title game in January of 2002.

But, I agree with your overall point.

  6. I think the whole "knowing someone else's offense" thing is essentially irrelevant now.

Every team has access to all-22 game film. Every Power Five team has analysts that break everything down on film.

Thomas may know some things, but they'd be things that Colorado's staff already knew much more about anyways.

Haha.  Sims is a whiny girl??  Dude has some swag to him.  Also looks like he has some structure and discipline in his program as opposed to the others. Liked him much more than the old EMCC coach or brown.

I don't think it needs to be a comparison of who is better or worse. They can both be whiny children.

I assume we're talking about the new season of Stranger Things?

Whoops. My bad. On the newest season of Last Chance U on Netflix.

Mills won't show up until season four of Stranger Things. He's going to be the world's response to the upside down.

I thinks it's going to be a weird, up and down season. Nebraska loses to Ohio State but beats most of the other teams that fans really want to win. I don't think either Minnesota or Purdue are great, but I think Nebraska loses both on the road in a shoot out.

I don't know about Maryland. It just seems like an all-timer of a trap game. Sandwiched between the two division games Nebraska wants to win the most and it's on the road. Just a gut feeling.

All of these high projections are getting me nervous :ahhhhhhhh

We got a big target on our back.

I agree. I think Nebraska could definitely be good this fall. But in terms of proven commodities, Nebraska has a good quarterback and a good (but often injured) receiver. Aside from that, there are a lot of unknowns.

I'm sure some players will step up. But needing offensive lineman, backs, other receivers, defensive lineman and linebackers all to step up is a lot.

That's more or less why I'm expecting 8-4. Anything more is gravy.

Money will have even more control in determining where players go and the chasm between haves and have nots will widen greatly.

The chasm between the two has always been massive. The best teams already get the best players.

I think players being allowed to profit off their likeness would actually level the playing field a tad. Not a lot, but more so than it is now.

With this new way, a five-star QB from Tulsa now may actually stay in Tulsa if he can profit off his likeness. Now, he may not stay. But as is now, he's going to Alabama, Clemson, Georgia or Oklahoma. At least with this way, Tulsa or North Texas have a chance.

Of the scenario’s presented, I like to not fire Solich.  Solich was a good coach, not TO legend type, but good.  I just wanted to see what his staff was going to be able to do. I thought he put together an excellent staff.

I think Solich was a solid coach. I don't completely agree with the staff he put together after the 2002 season being excellent.

Defensively, it was very good. No arguments there. He did hire Barney Cotton as his offensive line coach and offensive coordinator though.

Outside of Cotton though, good hires.

I bet a lot of people would like to be "unpaid" to the tune of a $50K per year education, room & board, nutrition and health consultants, better food than the general student population and a stipend on top of it all.

I'll reiterate, it's a measly 4 years where yes, they are helping schools and AD's and coaches and  others make ridiculous sums off of the game they play on Saturdays. So what? They're getting a free education that many people cannot afford and in some cases they are showcasing their talent for professional careers. I guess the alternative is to pay them in a free market capitalistic manner, completely destroy the college game and then years down the road we can all bemoan the fact that we screwed the pooch.

Why do people think players getting paid would destroy things? I'll admit, it's possible I guess.

But people thought adding black players would destroy things. Unlimited substitutions would destroy things. True freshman playing will destroy things. Coaches getting paid more than university presidents will destroy things. The Rose Bowl not having a Big 10 team against a Pac 10 team will destroy things. A four-team playoff will destroy things.

College football is as popular as ever. Players being able to profit off their would certainly change things. I doubt it would ruin anything.

  14. Mods, feel free to delete this if it's out of bounds.

I don't like politics and don't care for either side. However ...

With all this talk of communism, it's ironic that collegiate sports are probably the most communist thing in the United States. Athletes are unpaid, but get free food along with room and board for their labor while the schools keep all the money and make all the rules.
