It should have left Monday... This isn't a "day trip" like going to North Bend, IN.

The route my friends have planned to take all along to Eugene looks clear.  I-84 to Ontario, then Hwy 20 to Bend, 97 South to 58 and west to Eugene.

Currently looks good and I don't think it would matter anyhow, they aren't missing this game for nothing let alone a little smoke.  I told them if they ran into much smoke on the way just put a brisket on the hood to soak up the flavor : )

.650 coach at Oregon State. Riley was a .530 coach.

I don't think DE is a better coach because of one season. I think he is a better coach comparing both of their entire tenures at Oregon State.

And because you're completely willing to ignore Riley holds a winning record over Erickson in head to head meetings.  lol

Not arbitrary. Erickson won a higher % of his games as head coach at Oregon State than Riley did.

That is a very relevant statistic when comparing two coaches. Who is a better coach? Urban Meyer or John Cooper? Well lets see they both coached at Ohio State and John Cooper won 71% of his games there and Urban Meyer has won 92% of his games there.

    You think that is arbitrary?

Arbitrary because they weren't the same games, against the same teams, in the same conditions.

Head to head > arbitrary data points

But keep on truck'n brotha, it's entertaining like a drunk falling on the dance floor at a wedding.

You are making my point for me. I am saying DE had BOTH (1) the best season between the two AND (2) the better winning percentage when compared to Riley. Your comparison is not analogous because no coach in your example can claim they have BOTH (1) best season AND (2) best winning percentage.

Please, point to the coach in your example that has BOTH the best winning percentage AND the best season.

Riley holds a head to head winning record vs Erickson that spans over a 5 season period.

Based on having more wins vs Erickson, will you concede MR the better coach or find more arbitrary data to support an invalid argument?

All that sounds easy enough. It must be nice to understand all the logistics behind a major college football game.

Never said it would be easy.  Where there's a will..............

I'd say it's a far less complex logistical problem than what southeast Texas is facing at the moment.

Oregon State is only 40 miles from Eugene and has very similar air quality issues. Granted Corn Valley will be a little better than Eugene, but still not an option. The ONLY option should they not play Saturday is to reschedule for another date at Autzen. Any thoughts of another sight are just fantasies.

Disagree, there's a perfectly logical option.

Play the dang game in Nebraska.  There just happens to be a much larger stadium that's available for this Saturday.  Wow what are the odds of that.

It's the only logical choice with the least disruption to the majority of fans involved and salvages revenue for both sides.

The game has changed in favor of offenses.

Georgia Tech was ranked #59 in total defense last year giving up 401.6 ypg. GT had a 9-4 record.

Hell, Oklahoma went 11-2 while giving up 432 ypg.

By my count 4 teams had double digit wins while giving up more than 400 ypg last season.

Giving up 400+ ypg is certainly going to make winning much harder, but it's not impossible.

Have to agree.  Penn State allowed over 400 yards 7 times last year.  Over 500 twice.

I have been an Ozigbo fan and would have liked to see all three of the ''co-number ones" get some decent carries.   I know there are a bunch who like Tre and I don't disagree although I would like to see him run a little lower/foward and not take some many hits to the legs, etc.  He looks good and if he has a short coming, it is his straight away speed.  He did well.  I just feel we have three good runners and when we didn't believe we could run the ball for 2 yards on a 4th and 2 at their 4 in the first series, I was quite dismayed.  That is one of those cases where you need to be the agressor and make a statement to your O line and team and to the opponent that you intend to bury them and will shove it in there and if by chance you fail, you know your Blackshirts will do the job.   You put the big boys in there and you push them back.

My take on MR's leanings when it comes to RB's is he favors a primary back.  He's made mention in the past of the importance of the RB getting into a game rhythym.  Leads me to believe he doesn't like to shuffle guys in and out at RB if he doesn't have to.  His other two key factors for RB's appear to be pass blocking and ball protection.

Agree on Tre needing to learn how to slip full contact.  Some backs never seem to get hit hard, they almost always find a way to avoid the full impact of tacklers and it goes a long ways towards staying healthy throughout a season.

  9. National Weather Service predicting 50% chance of T-storms Wednesday night across western Oregon.  Lightning strikes could ignite a number of new fires, while any heavy downpours could help get current fires under control.  Looking at the active fire map for Oregon, the only way it would appear smoke will not be an issue come Saturday, is if there's a prevailing west by northwest wind to clear it out and wind is the last thing the fires need.

You can see how bad it is in this Eugene area road cam.

Only an idiot would have hired him in the first place for this job.

Also...who cares about how much they have to pay for a coach?  No one

Says the guy who said Gary Andersen was a great coach.

    31 carries? that's bullsh#t on Riley.

So I'm not left guessing, what's your acceptable max number of carriers for future reference?  Is it set in stone or dependent upon game/situation?

  12. Bryant, Nebraska 31 attempts 192 yards

    Jackson, N'western 30 attempts 109 yards

Dobbins, tOSU 29 attempts 181 yards

Agree 31 is a lot of carries to sustain per game.  Since we don't know how the rest of the season will play out,  looking only at the first weekend it's comparable to other BIG running backs who's teams needed them.  It also appeared Tre had the green light to pull himself for a breather whenever he wanted, which he did a  couple times that I saw.

The one thing I'd like to see him get better at is avoiding direct contact.  Some backs are so durable because they never take the big hit, they always manage to find a way to avoid the direct hit.  Maybe it's a talent more than a skill that can be learned, but I'd still sure like to see him make that a point of focus.

I think most are not all that upset by the offense and will give it some time to get to running on all eight cylinders, but the glaring lack of success on the defense was beyond alarming!  Yes, the defense didn't give up the punt return TD nor the safety.   But the defense gave up nearly 500 yards of offense which is at least 150 too many and to a team that at best can be compared to the weakest in the Big Ten (which may be the Huskers as we played well enough to lose deservedly).  I honestly have to say that in this game, the best team lost.  That is the most disconcerting thing of all.    Ark State walked out of ourt stadium heads held high and proud while our guys should have felt exactly the opposite.

Thanks God for the good punts and field goals and all but one kick off.  But we had way too many penalties and miscues.  Those can be chalked up to first game mistakes except that we had a full week of extra practice and we were at home.  The mistakes and miscues continued well into the second half.  The jitters and deer in headlights looks were well over with by then too.   We played very few guys whose names were unfamiliar and would simply be not ready for prime time player status.   '

I don't know where Arky St. ranks or who they can be compared to in the Big.  I find that line of thinking irrelevant since over the course of a season playing bigger, stronger, faster players would wear them down and likely lead to key starters missing games. This was one game in which they were at full strength and had a lot of motivation to pull off an upset so the more interesting "what if" question for me is, if they played like they played Saturday how many Big teams could Arky St have beat opening night?  Unless you consider N to be the worst Big team this season, it's reasonable to suggest Arky St. may have beat 3, 4, maybe 5 other Big teams opening night with a similar performance.

What I do know is, their QB put the ball on the money sideline to sideline with zip and down the field too a lot more times than not.  Their receivers did a great job blocking out on the edge isolating the ball carrier(after the catch) to a usually one on one open field battle.   That's a powerful equalizer vs any defense.  Their offense was quick, clean, and well orchestrated for a first game.  The play action threat was real and had to be accounted for and we kept them under 100 on the ground.

Should this team do well this season, the goombas who are over-reacting now will saying something to the effect of "Well, I'm glad things turned out well....Husker fan through and through" while conveniently omitting how they pissed in every thread they could find. There's a difference between mature criticism of a game/staff versus a compulsion to puke in every thread.

There's a tiny loud minority of people who were really hurt when Bo was fired.  They've become miserable fans, can't find a single positive with any aspect of the program and are now committed to spreading their misery to others.  At the end of the day, they rejoice in N deficiencies and point them out ad naseum while ignoring or minimizing strengths/successes.

Then there are the folks who live in the past.  All they remember are the highlights and measure the present against those highlights.  Problem is, they don't recall anything but the highlights so their measure is more than just unrealistic it's fairy tale stuff.   In the  game of myth vs reality, myth will always win out in their way of seeing things.  Believe it or not, there were plenty of low light moments and performances that went into building the glory years.  It took time, trial and error, and years in the making.

Finally you have the impulsive/immature poster.  The difference between a baby and a man is, the baby wants something and wants it now and if he doesn't get it will start crying.  A man has the mental capacity to discern there aint no such thing as a fee lunch.  Things aren't served on a silver platter and just handed to you on a whim in the real world.  You actually have to put in time and some work to get what you want.  Message boarding is the perfect medium for the immediate gratification crowd who still have a lot of baby left in them.

  15.

    1.  We were plus 2 in turnover margin with QB making his first start for N.  Zero turnovers on a night a new QB passed the ball 32 times and we ran the ball 38 times.

    2.  A punting game like last night can decide close games later this season.

    3. We showed explosive big play capability on the ground and through the air.  That's a defenses worst nightmare.

    4.  We showed we can pound the rock, have a go to back, and capable backups.

    5.  Lee showed composure, accuracy, good decision making, and that he can lead this offense and get all the playmakers around him involved.

    6.  FG's 2 for 2

    7.  D playing new positions and scheme, generated 2 important turnovers.  In 82 plays defended, allowed just one to go for more than 30 yards.  I think aTm gave up 10 times that many in the 2nd half tonight.

    8.  I learned Husker football in 2017 is off to an exciting start. If you weren't entertained by that game, maybe you've forgot how to enjoy them one week at a time and not worry about the future implications of every single play.  We WON.
