I used to get angry at a loss like this, but since Riley and Frost I just have to laugh now a days.  It's so common that we have become a laughing stock.  I just shake my head and laugh at us now a days knowing that we can actually get lower than we currently are.  This is unacceptable but this is who we are now.  I don't enjoy coming here joking with everyone how bad we are but this is what the program has become, a joke.  If I wanted to support a joke program I could always just got to a UNLV game, we aren't that far off though.

Same here. Struggling hard to care. Apathy is real.

  2. I stopped watching the game at halftime and got a bunch of work done around the house. First time I've ever done that in my 39 years.

The trenches on both sides are abysmal. Imagine what Minnesota and Wisconsin are going to do to us? We'll have 2 offensive drives those whole games! Iowa can't even score a TD against an FCS team and we'll make them look competent.

10/1 can't get here soon enough.

Aranda's situation isn't the same as he's in a much better spot post-realignment. Baylor is easier to recruit to, has plenty of money via donations, and will be in the hunt annually once Oklahoma is out of the picture. We don't have a realistic shot at him unless they have a bad year or something unforseen.

Campbell makes sense and will certainly be tied to the job.

Wittingham came in 2nd to Riley but he'd be a perfect fit. Sounds like he's only got a few years left in him at Utah so no shot there.

I'm surprised Narduzzi isn't getting any buzz. Pitt is a really hard job and he's done well. This will be a pretty telling year for how he is as a coach but he's a big ten guy. Seems like Pelini 2.0 and we can do better, but I'd like to see him at a major job.

What an absolute shame we could have had Whittingham. We'd be in such a different situation right now!

I think you're overestimating the amount of money Baylor has. They can't compete with us now, let alone when the new media deal hits. Guys like Aranda and Campbell aren't all salary guys, meaning they don't need to be the highest paid coaches around. What they do want, however, is their assistants to be the highest paid coaches around. We can accomplish that better than their current schools can today and even more so in a few years.

I don't think anyone in the Big XII is going to be in a better spot than we are here in a couple of years. Short term, sure, but we're going to have far more $$$ and be in a real conference. I'm not saying Aranda would be an easy get, but I certainly don't think he's off the table. Any Big XII/Pac 12/ACC coach is likely on the table outside of Dabo. The reason is 90% financial and 10% being in a stable conference.

  5. I think the biggest difference in a coaching search this year compared to year's past is conference realignment. Typically, the Arandas, Campbells, Whittinghams, etc. would be a no go. This year might be different, though. ISU is at their ceiling and their conference is dying. Baylor won't have a home outside of whatever 3rd tier the Big XII becomes. Whittingham may be a Utah lifer, though I wish we would have tried to get him instead of Riley. Here you get stability, $$$, and if you succeed your legacy will be celebrated for literally all of time with Nebraska fans.

Don't discount getting one of these guys as their conferences tank.

  6. After what we saw on Saturday there is a realistic possibility we could go 2-10 this year. NW is greatly improved from last year, but they're not world beaters. We made their QB look like Joe Montana and our defense was more gassed than Miami was in '94.

If Frost can turn it around, we all win! I want to see Nebraska be successful regardless of who is at the helm. A successful Frost means we win a lot more games this year and I can be all in on that. Is that realistic? Doubt it.

My guess is if we continue to play this way, he's gone 10/1 and Joseph is interim. Alberts knows we need a splash and will have the financial backing to go get one.

  7. You have to start big with proven winners. Throw the bank at Stoops, Petersen, and (do a little soul searching first) maybe Urban Myer.

If none of them bite, throw the bank at Aranda, Kiffen, Matt Campbell, or Kyle Whittingham.

At this point if no one bites, you decide which direction you want to go? Maybe someone like Leipold from Kansas? Maybe the guy at KSU if they have a great year? Maybe roll the dice and go for the guy from CCU and his modern option?

  8. Which Northwestern shows up? Which Nebraska shows up? Fitzgerald has his ups and downs, and given his trend this is an up year for them.

So many questions, but this has to be an absolute must-win for Frost and co. I believe Illinois set the tone for last year and we simply couldn't get passed it. We desperately need a W here.

  9. I'm somewhere in the middle on pro or anti Frost camp, but if he hires Graham Harrell he might as well just resign.

I think hiring Kendall Briles given what he was associated with at Baylor is also a travesty. Hell of a play caller, toilet of a human being.

Ah yes! Friday! A mere 5 days away from ESD. I really want to believe that they've done their due diligence in getting these hires right, but the pain of this season is still resonating. How tf have we not locked this in yet??

  11. Brian Kelly's fake southern accent is one of the greatest things to come out of the coaching carousel in a long time. I still haven't been able to finish the video as I cringe too hard. It's amazing.

With that said, I think Napier is one of the best coaches that have been hired so far in this carousel, and if Florida gives him some space he can have a lot of success.

Marcus Freeman is the best fit as it's continuity. Seems like a tried and true players coach. I hate ND, but good for him.

I hope Kelly and that fake southern accent flop. I also think he has the highest chance to flop given the severe culture shock he's in for. With that said he's won everywhere he's been.

  12. My biggest fear is that Frost is looking for a splash hire and has struck out so far. Ludwig at Utah and Grimes at Baylor would have been splashes, but my guess is they turned us down.

This tweet by Sam McKewon gives me pause:

One could read it as him prepping Husker nation for a not-so-splash hire, but I'm curious if he is prepping Husker nation for a splash that does not fit at all (i.e. Graham Harrell).

No smoke on Grimes or Ludwig yet?

Why does the Army OC keep popping up?  Just that one guy on Twitter making stuff up or something to it?

I don't think we'd run their exact offense if true.  But the running game would take a lot from it.  Maybe Trev is a run the damn ball guy.

They would be homerun hires in my book and I just don't think we're competent enough to pull it off. Would love to be wrong.
