Have you seen their practice videos? They're intense and they practice hard. Very physical, too. Everything that's been missing here.

And he's very hands on with the both O and D.  I saw one of his mic'd up videos where he was demonstrating how to come up hard and blow up the lead blockers on a screen.  I loved it!  It's one of my pet peeves every Saturday watching d-backs come up and play patty cake with lead blockers hoping to get around them and make a tackle, only to end up on their butts.

Scott Frost is legit. I'm not expecting everyone to be able to realize that, but I have been watching him since he took over as the OC at Oregon and have watched every game either live on TV/Internet or YouTube (rewinds of games) and he is a brilliant play caller. It doesn't matter who he has that is new at the QB spot, it doesn't take 3 seasons to see results, it is almost immediate.

He doesn't run a complex scheme.

His best skill is motivation.  He has his team so motivated and laser focused you'd think they've been playing together since peewee league.  And he's only been there a year and a half.

Have Scott Frost hired in December since he is a legend at Nebraska as a player and has a solid coaching resume but a guy who has no HC experience at a P5 level, hasn't recruited at a high level (let alone at a lack of talent area like Nebraska and the 500 mi radius) and risk what little hope we have left in our program on Frost

    or

Hire away another HC at a P5 school (Justin Fuente VT, Chip Kelly, Brian Kelly ND, Pat Fitzgerald TCU). At least if these guys fail the fan's won't lose complete faith in the football gods and we always have that hope of Frost coming back to Nebraska if he proves himself somewhere else first.

Just fyi, I was all about Frost being our HC before Riley was hired but now I'm a little nervous putting all my "hope eggs" in his basket

Frost has recruited at a high level at Oregon.

So you're saying we shouldn't hire Frost so that the fans can at least still have something to hope for?

Frost is a sure thing.  He'll win an NC within 5 years.  Somewhere.  Where would you prefer it to happen?

I think we remember that differently. Bo could have stayed longer AND kept acting like an ass if he'd won 11 games/a conference championship/avoided big game meltdowns.

IIRC virtually everyone on this here HuskerBoard found Bo Pelini's consistent 4 loss seasons unsatisfying, and demanded to see some kind of improvement the next season. Most were rooting for Bo to breakthrough, and probably most weren't quite ready to fire him, but let's not pretend 9 - 4 seasons that ended with Nebraska unranked and irrelevant could have gone on forever. We'd happily give Scott Frost three 9 - 4 seasons, but if he was starting his 8th season with Nebraska still stuck the conference's second tier, we'd hear the exact same grumbling.

Making us no different from at least 30 programs who like to think themselves relevant to college football.

Fans didn't start getting that upset with Bo until after the A&M outburst and the release of the tapes.  If he hadn't been an ass and kept winning at least 9 per year, he would have never been fired.

So there really is only one coach on the face of the Earth who can lead Nebraska back to prominence, and he's a sure bet.

That's quite a corner to paint yourself in.

Never played craps before?   A crapshoot means we'll be rolling the dice on an unknown commodity.   It's possible they have a winning roll, but it's doubtful.

And yes, Frost is a sure thing if he comes.

It all depends on the next hire.  Callahan wasn't given the same amount of time as Bo.  Why?  Callahan had been a head coach before, so the expectations were higher sooner.  Riley isn't going to get the same amount of time as Bo either.  Why?  He's been a head coach many years also.  Bo was given even more time than Solich.  If we go out and hire Venebles, I'd venture to guess he'd get more time given the same exact results as if we went out and hired Dan Mullen.

Is it fair to expect more from a seasoned head coach than it is a first time head coach?  I think it is.

Huh?  Callahan got canned after 2 losing seasons, just like Riley will get canned after his 2nd losing season.  Remind me how many losing seasons Bo had?

If Frost wins 9 games every year he can stay forever ,assuming he doesn't act like Bo.  Bo could've stayed forrever if he kept winning at least 9, except he couldn't help but acting like Bo.  If Frost's first two seasons are below .500, he probably won't get a third.  But he won't have any losing seasons here.

When i read the hysteria about Frost here and other places, I have the sense that no one else would do.  Here is a more interesting question.  If we knew Scott doesn't want to leave UCF for anywhere this year.  Would people still want Riley fired knowing we wouldn't have Scott, or would you give him another year?  Is it Scott or bust?

Riley has to go.  If Frost ain't coming, we'll just have to wander through the wilderness for a few more years with another crapshoot.

I feel for Diaco, he just got here and now he's fighting a losing battle to keep his job next year.  Not saying we need to keep him if someone better is available, just that it probably sucks to be him right now.

    There'$ about 850,000 rea$ons why I don't feel too $orry for him.

Kind of along those lines but I think it's pretty obvious that Riley hasn't really put much effort into really evaluating his assistant coach hires for some time.  Sure seems like he got comfortable at OSU and was content - for whatever reason - to just kind of roll with what was going on.  Keep the band together and roll down the road.  Probably why they had been in steady decline for several years before they got here.

Otherwise I don't know how you can possibly begin to explain his coordinator hires when he got here.  Banker had been with him forever.  Yet he apparently struggled mightily to even draw up how his defense would even line up against a given formation, let alone a scheme to stop the plays it might run.  Yet given the chance to go in a new direction, he chose the comfortable route.  I'm really not sure that he would have fired Banker had Eichorst not brought in Devaney to be in his ear.

With Langsdorf, he'd also been Riley's OC for several years.  He only had play-calling duties for a short time then Riley took them back.  I can't think of any other explanation for doing that other than you don't think he was doing a good job at it.  Yet, despite not having any other play-calling experience, Riley hired him back and handed him the reigns.  And the results have been poor.  Probably similar to the last time he tried that but here were are again anyway.

And that's before you even mention having a "full-time" assistant who was not only terrible at his job but only asked to stay for the first half-hour or so of practice.  Apparently he wasn't even worthy of trying to help with any other aspect of the program.  Just walked out and left everyone else to do their jobs.

I have not idea why anyone would expect that type of management style to be effective.

I hate to say it because Riley is such a nice guy, but I think he's dumber than a box of rocks.

My biggest fear is we're going to go offer Frost a low ball contract that he literally has to refuse.  Then, we'll hire another mediocre coach with the thought that we really are becoming a doormat in college football.

If that happens, we have the worst leadership in all of college sports.  I just don't see that happening.

The only acceptable way for Frost NOT to come home is if he comes out with a heartfelt speech explaining how he's made a commitment to his players and he's going to see it through at UCF at least X more seasons.

How many games have the fans attitude cost Nebraska? I think we would be undefeated under riley if this huskerboard didn't exist.

Wow.  You must think Riley is an even worse coach than I do if you think a bunch of keyboard jockeys can so easily affect his results.  Or were you just joking?  If so, good one.  You got me!

Looking at the schedule for next season, under Riley, we are looking at another 5-6 loss season.

That is how every schedule looks when Riley is the coach

Looks like a 1 or 2 loss season for Frost.

My point is, and I have always felt this way, is that Scott may not come.  If Moos tries to hire him and Scott doesn't come, the fans will turn on Moos.

The fans might be upset, but why would they turn on Moos?

And why worry about something like this that hasn't happened yet?  Do  you have a solution to this potential future dilemma?

  14. 1 hour ago, Crusader Husker said:

My take on the situation is two fold.  One is I don't like the fact that most of the fan base forcing our AD to have to hire Frost.  If he feels Frost is not the best guy he has the fan base turn on him because he didn't hire him.  If he does try to hire him and Scott turn's it down, he is screwed again.  He is our AD, I want him to be successful.

That leads me to the second part.  I know I am in the minority, but I don't think it is a slam dunk that he would take the job.  There now is word that Florida may need a new coach.  It can be hard to compete with fertile recruiting grounds. This leads to a second problem.  No matter how good another hire might be, part of the fan base won't want him to succeed because they want to be right about Frost.

The win-win is Moos wants Frost and he comes.  I just think the entire process is not a slam dunk.

Your third-fold is the one to focus on.

And it's by far the most likely.  Why in the world would any AD not have Frost at or near the top of his list?  And there's no good reason to assume that Frost would flat turn us down, assuming we make a generous offer.

    Win-win.  That's what I'm going with.  :restore
