  1. Initially I wonder how much was post Pelini protest and how much was Banker rubbing the players the wrong way like coarse sand paper. I believe along with others that the four DLine that left early tanked that season. Yet McMullen who was a high Character guy said "F--- that guy" in regards to Banker. Plus Banker and Gerry supposedly clashed. Time to bring in someone to restore the player/coach chemistry.

Looks to be just above .500 to me. Time will tell. The MAC isn't the B1G.

It is like the same % as Riley...

He also had a sweet 1-11 record

What the numbers don't tell you is he inherited a complete mess. Recruited a bunch of kids and played a ton of them in that 1-11 season as freshmen. Look where they ended up as seniors. The 13-1 season is not a fluke. He built the team his way, in his vision, and created a culture the kids believed in and the community believes in. Trust me, I've lived in Kalamazoo for 25 years, and I am a WMU alum. He has done amazing things with the program in a very short time.
The community loves him there, don't they?
They really do, he really embraced the community and got them totally involved in his culture. It has been a really cool thing to watch evolve.

Riley at OSU was very similar to Snyder at Kansas State. Programs with horrible histories that each built up and coached through their best stretches ever.
Except that Dennis Erickson led Oregon State to their 2 best years when Riley was coaching in the NFL.

Look at their history as a whole and Riley was responsible for a majority of the better seasons

Riley went 3-8 and 5-6 in '97 and '98 in his 2 years at Oregon State before getting the Chargers job. Erickson then had 3 winning seasons in 4 years, including a 11-1 season in 2000. Riley came back to Oregon State after Erickson left for the NFL, and did a good job of maintaining the winning at Oregon State, but still never reached the heights Erickson did. Riley was 1-2 years away from being fired at Oregon State if NU hadn't hired him The comparison to Bill Snyder is laughable.

Listen to an OSU grad. That 5-6 season was the best we had in years. We were excited as hell. Erickson came in and won with Riley's recruits. He also won with very questionable juco players and embarrassed the program. That Fiesta Bowl win over Notre Dame was embarrassing. I forget the number, but there were double digit personal foul penalties in that game. Riley came back and kept us happy.

Your assertion that Riley was going to get fired is totally bogus. Even if they wanted to fire him, they couldn't buy out his contract. This was well known. Were we ticked with Riley? Absolutely. He had a lot of years on his contract and it felt like he stopped trying. He also wouldn't fire Banker which was a bone of contention with the fan base.

I went to OSU from 1989-1992. We went 4-7, 1-10, 1-10, 1-9. After that, we went 4-7, 4-7, 1-10, and 2-9. Then Riley took over. I'd say comparing Riley to Snyder is legit.

BTW, Erickson went 5-6 the season after winning the Fiesta Bowl. All was not roses for him.

Exactly, the great Erickson went 5-6 one season after going 11-1 showcasing how difficult it can be to win there. This isn't a one to one comparison of the two coaches. It was grouping two coaches that coached their teams through the best stretches in their respective program histories.

I'll use small words. Not laughable. Of the 13 seasons of 8 wins or better in Oregon State history Riley had 6 of them. They only had 24 seasons of 7 wins or more in their entire history and he had 8 of them. That is not deniable even if you dislike Riley. Point is both Snyder and Riley coached their programs in the glory days. True Snyder has had more success in his two stints with the Wildcats. Similar but not exact. True Dennis Erickson had a level of success nearly everywhere he coached in college.

  5. Appears to be semantics regarding the rehab. He checked into a rehab facility in July and got out in September. The Cowboys organization said he may always be in rehab similar to going to AA meetings. Then while still under suspension he failed his 6th drug test in November. If they haven't already the Cowboys should hire a permanent baby sitter for Gregory like Pacman Jones had.

    Ohio State: Coaching

    • The kids were obviously rattled by what happened. Calming the kids down and getting them focused is where they earn their pay.
    • Langsdorf set the kids up to fail as soon as Tommy was knocked out.

Wasn't the team already down like 31 - 3 with wheels coming off in all directions when Tommy got hurt?

No actually they were driving to bring it within striking distance. After Tommy got hurt around tOSU 20 yard line. We were stopped on a 4th down, and tOSU drove the field and went up another TD. It was a 14 point swing in about 2 minutes of gametime. It was a crusher in multiple ways. Then halftime, and tOSU had the ball to start at halftime and the rest is history.

No. They were already down four touchdowns. Tommy stays healthy and the game is perhaps 55 - 10. 48 - 17 at best. The ass-kicking was well in progress. We were in a similar "striking distance" scenario against Iowa, and the odds against Ohio State were worse.

Nebraska had little margin of error to begin with, and went downhill quick. Also, Ohio State was having a perfect storm of a game, coming off a wake-up call and a loss and totally dialed in at every level.

Not true. They were driving to potentially make it 24-10, and have some momentum. Would they have won the game with Tommy, no. But they wouldn't have lost by 60 points. That was a back breaker of all back breakers. To be driving to potentially bring the game within reach, to losing your starting QB and leader, to not making a 4th and short, to tOSU driving and scoring just before half. It was about 5 minutes of game time that broke their will.

Agree with you. The team came out mentally/emotionally flat possibly a result of the tough Wisconsin loss. As Ohio State jumped out quickly they started to lose more "air" and the near loss of Tommy almost deflated them totally.

Burrows is way better than any Qb Nebraska has .by a mile.

If only he would've been interested in playing for us...

If only Beck would have offered him a scholly to come to NU.

Beck master plan unfolding. Ran off Burrows from Nebraska into the arms of Ohio State. Urban rewarded Beck with position on his staff. Beck smiles as Burrows scored TD against Huskers. Bwahahaha!!!!

  9. Here is the actual rule:

    Illegal Contact and Pass Interference

    ARTICLE 8.
    a. During a down in which a legal forward pass crosses the neutral zone, illegal contact by Team A and Team B players is prohibited from the time the ball is snapped until it is touched by any player or an official (A.R. 7-3-8-II).
    b. Offensive pass interference by a Team A player beyond the neutral zone during a legal forward pass play in which a forward pass crosses the neutral zone is contact that interferes with a Team B eligible player. It is the responsibility of the offensive player to avoid the opponents. It is not offensive pass interference (A.R. 7-3-8-IV, V, X, XV and XVI):
    1. When, after the snap, a Team A ineligible player immediately charges and contacts an opponent at a point not more than one yard beyond the neutral zone and maintains the contact for no more than three yards beyond the neutral zone. (A.R. 7-3-10-II)
    2. When two or more eligible players are making a simultaneous and bona fide attempt to reach, catch or bat the pass. Eligible players of either team have equal rights to the ball (A.R. 7-3-8-IX).
    3. When the pass is in flight and two or more eligible players are in the area where they might receive or intercept the pass and an offensive player in that area impedes an opponent, and the pass is not catchable.
PENALTY—15 yards from the previous spot [s33].
    c. Defensive pass interference is contact beyond the neutral zone by a Team B player whose intent to impede an eligible opponent is obvious and it could prevent the opponent the opportunity of receiving a catchable forward pass. When in question, a legal forward pass is catchable. Defensive pass interference occurs only after a legal forward pass is thrown (A. R. 7-3-8-VII, VIII, XI and XII). It is not defensive pass interference (A.R. 7-3-8-III and 7-3-9-III):
    1. When, after the snap, opposing players immediately charge and establish contact with opponents at a point that is within one yard beyond the neutral zone.
    2. When two or more eligible players are making a simultaneous and bona fide attempt to reach, catch or bat the pass. Eligible players of either team have equal rights to the ball (A.R. 7-3-8-IX). FR-78 Rule 7 / Snapping and Passing the Ball
    3. When a Team B player legally contacts an opponent before the pass is thrown (A.R. 7-3-8-III and X).
    4. When a Team A potential kicker, from scrimmage kick formation, simulates a scrimmage kick by throwing the ball high and deep, and contact by a Team B player occurs.

  10. Today was abnormal even for Oregon. Coming into the game they had been successfull on 3 of 6 2 point conversion attempts after 13 TDs scored.

2015 they were 0 for 4 after 70 TDs scored

2014 they were 4 for 7 after 88 TDs scored

2013 they were 2 for 6 after 80 TDs scored

2012 they were 4 for 6 after 89 TDs scored

2011 they were 5 for 7 after 88 TDs scored

2010 they were 7 for 8 after 80 TDs scored
