Long time no post, but here goes... Frost's buyout, if he was shown the door after this year, is $20 million. Therefore, no matter who the new AD is, the only way Frost isn't back through at least 2022 is if he quits (and that's not happening). If Frost has a non-winning (no bowl) season this year, it's a safe bet that he'll be given an ultimatum for 2022. The buyout after next season would still be very high, but likely more digestable. That said, I believe there are reasons for optimism (7, perhaps 8 wins) this season if Nebraska can get off to a 3-0 start.
But obviously, the problems run deep. Apathy has set into the fan base (season ticket sales and seat donations have dropped considerably) and recruiting has taken a hit (poor on field performance and COVID have taken a toll). If Frost can't get the ship turned around this year, the new AD is going to be in a helluva spot. It's easy to see why sitting athletic directors aren't exactly attracted to this situation.

Well, his son is such a minor player for MSU, I doubt he and Izzo would be peppered with questions. But, they would probably be quick to try and interview Hoiberg about taking the job at NU in the middle of the game where Fred would respond "I am excited for the opportunity, but I am here to watch my son and his team."
I actually think that not announcing the hiring right away creates more suspense and puts more attention on Hoiberg. Assuming he's going to Nebraska, that's a good thing. I also agree with an earlier poster that letting the dust settle around the firing of Miles for several days is a wise move.
Why do I think this is a done deal?
1 - One name, and one name only, has surfaced in relation to the head coaching job at Nebraska and it happened before the previous head coach was fired.
2 - It was confirmed by the AD that he has spoken to 1 of his "3" potential candidates. Is it just coincidence that it is the person who's name has already surfaced?
3 - National pundits are upset at the way the situation was handled. One explanation for their "outrage" is that it is known (or accepted as fact) that a new coach was essentially hired before the AD fired the old coach. How might an AD react to that criticism? Maybe by saying that it will take 7-14 to find a new coach.
I'll admit up front that I could be wrong. However, I believe the old adage applies in this situation. "If it looks like a duck, swims like a duck, and quacks like a duck, it is probably a duck".

Conventional wisdom is that the Huskers are going to sign 3-4 more next week. However, it won't surprise me if they sign only 1 or 2 more. Frost is a man of his word and he's indicated he won't take a player just to fill a class.
- Coaches, including Frost, did an in-home with Houston after his visit so it seems very likely that he's a take and it sounds like he's N.
- Coaches also visited Parker's high school but no verification of an in-home by Frost. That young man is playing it close to the vest.
- Outside of those two, it seems like conventional scholarship offers would be risky, especially if there is bait in the water for grad transfers that could contribute immediately.

Also up to 14th in Rivals. The best part? Pola-Gates signed his LOI in December!

History shows that is much more important to recruit talented players that fit your program than it is to land as many *stars* as possible.
I feel extremely confident that Coach Frost and his staff are going after guys that are highly competitive, aggressive and wherever appropriate, blazingly fast.
I love that this staff already has one juco in the fold and will undoubtedly have more very soon (Huskers haven't had one since 2014). These kids aren't fresh out of 12th grade. Most were studs in high school and have been humbled. In general, they are ready to prove themselves on the big stage.
If Frost can land the right players for his system (not just the most highly rated players) his teams will be able to compete with everyone in the B1G.

Yep, just saw it. If Heupel is some dirtbag that mistreated the coaches and shows obvious potential of mistreating the recruits, Frost is justified in grabbing as many people as he likes.
Waiting for more details...
Is there any chance UCF refused to pay coaching bonuses to assistants for the bowl game?
Something strange is happening here.

Still no official announcement yet either.
He's meeting with his UCF players at 4:30.
Nebraska official announcement will follow.
Press conference in Nebraska tomorrow at noon.

Can you imagine how hard it is to tell his team that he is leaving?
Can you imagine how much harder it would have been to tell them that if they had lost?
It's a bittersweet moment for Scott, but let's forget, Nebraska is the sweet part, for us, and for him.

The news about Frost having cold feet and remorse about coming to Nebraska kind of puts a damper on the excitement.
Not for me. It shows he puts his heart and soul into his work. We wanted a competitor? We got one.
Now the real work begins !!

Everybody happy?

Just an observation...
Lincoln Riley is very young and inexperienced for a P5 head coach.

No one in this state today will be more proud than Tom Osborne.
That. Is. Cool.

I just hope we can come up with a better commit slogan than "Nebraska just got better".
"Beam us up Scotty" ... No?
Yeah, probably not.
GBR !!

We know that when Frost does come to Nebraska, the talking heads won't feel any shame. They'll just pass it off with "Well, did anybody REALLY expect him to go elsewhere...it is his home after all."
Meh, let the naysayers naysay. The truth is, many did not expect him to come back to a 4-8 Nebraska.
We know it. They know it.
Go Big Red !!!

Frost better get on the quick. We’re down to 8. Jeez, don’t they know the big red is rising?
I'm assuming you are referring to the Mario Goodrich de-commitment?
Kids want to be pursued by the new head coach. It's hard to blame them. If Scott wants Goodrich, it wouldn't surprise me if he still ends up "N".

I'd think that if Frost & Co. win today, that Frost and his team would like to celebrate... leads me to think it'll be announced Sunday as opposed to today.
Or... it will be announced today.

The stuff Gameday is saying about Frost to Oregon is ultimately all to the better for the Huskers because he isn't going there, he's coming to Lincoln.
By the time the story is out, it will become clear that Nebraska beat out many top of the top programs in the country for our new head coach. When is the last time we could say that? As far as I can tell, the answer to that question is "never".
It couldn't have worked out better that Scott is having such a great season and is in high demand in a year when so many top jobs have opened. His name has been continually in the news and Nebraska will reap the benefits (from recruits and national relevance). Cheer like crazy for UCF today! It will make this all the sweeter if they win today just prior to Frost being named as Nebraska's head coach!
But once Scott is announced, all Husker fans need to pull together like we've not done in many years. Next season will be a challenge for Frost and for us. Nebraska football is in a hole and we can only climb out by working together to support the program by refusing to give in to harsh criticism (and by calling out the local media when they push us down that road).
The Big Red is poised to rise again but it will take all of us working together to make it happen!

I don't think so. Frost hasn't officially told the team yet - doesn't want to be a distraction from their game. He's not sure if he wants to tell them right after the game, potentially taking away from a championship celebration (or add to the sorrow of a loss).
Sounding like he will probably wait until Sunday morning to tell the team, Nebraska will make an announcement Sunday afternoon and there will be a press conference Monday.
This is not speculation. Frost will be announced tomorrow and introduced on Sunday.

By this time tomorrow, Nebraska's new head coach will be announced.
By this time on Sunday, Nebraska's new head coach will have finished his introductory press conference in Lincoln.
Count your blessings Husker fans. We got the guy we wanted!
