  1. Tonight i've really been bothered by the fact that we don't play oklahoma every year. It normally never really bothered me but I would really like to see it happen year in and year out. So I was thinking about a possible alignment that would let us do so. I couldn't really think of anything really attractive in terms of expansion but what if we downsized? take 2 teams out and do like the pac 10 does and play 9 conference games (everyone goes head to head) and 3 non conference?

    thoughts?

this is interesting, because if you play head-to-head with all of your conference opponents, you wouldn't need a championship game, because head-to-head contests would be the deciding factor in breaking a tie (unless, of course, if more than two teams share the best record, in which case you can have other tiebreakers in place). Also, you can strengthen the conference quite a bit by getting rid of perennial losers. The conference could look like this:

    Colorado

    Kansas

    Kansas State

    Missouri

    Nebraska

    Oklahoma

    Oklahoma State

    Texas

    Texas A&M

    Texas Tech

Baylor and Iowa State would find new conference homes. though it would be fun to kick Colorado out of the conference just to piss them off Iowa state could go to the Big Ten (eleven). Baylor is screwed. :-)

  2. “Minnesota, it seems like a good school. I talked to (linebacker) Coach (John) Butler and the running back coach (Thomas Hammock). They talked about the program and what they are trying to do. They are trying to build the defense and trying to be an up and coming program to be one of the top teams in the Big 10.”

Well, seems that Turene hasn't researched the defenses of Kevin Cosgrove (Co-Defensive Coordinator at U of M). Minnesota will be trying to "build up the defense" as long as Cosgrove has a say in the defensive schemes. If that is Minnesota's selling point, then damn Kent, move on.

  3. Rivals did an interview with Cooper that they posted today. Nothing very new in it. Basically Cooper says how he decided not to visit FSU because the whole recruiting process has been really getting to him and his family. So he decided to shut everything down and look over everything one last time before making his final decision. He said he doesn't want to set a timetable. When he makes up his mind he'll let everyone know.

He sounds really confused, frustrated and tired at this point. I wonder if he's been hearing so many people say different things in his ear that he needs everyone to be quiet while he has time to think. He definitely didn't sound like a soft commit guy like a lot of people had been suspecting. He sounds genuinely confused and frustrated. Either that or he's the best actor ever. This thing could any any number of ways. Let's hope it's our way.

I often forget how difficult this process is for recruits. Owa...cooper....they're under a lot of pressure from family and friends and from what they believe is the best place. Good post. Whether or not Nebraska is his choice, I hope that Cooper finds the right place to play football for the next three/four years.

  4. Also with how concerned his mom and him are with the schooling part of it sounds like he will be here four years to.

EHHH I don't know about that. If he can be a first round draft pick after 3 years, I think his mother will be happy to share the millions with him and let the not graduating part go. He could always go back to school later in his career.

not to be a debbie downer...but OO hasn't committed yet. The cart before the horse

yes Mr. Silent Commit, but all sources say he is basically N. I have already began to celebrate. There is nothing telling me that he won't commit to Nebraska

I'm excited too. But, it's not official yet...any thing can happen.

  6. If Colts don't beat the J E T S it will be one of the greatest upsets in playoff history. I want the Vikes to win (go Favre!!) cuz I've been a Vikes fan my whole life, but I think New Orleans has all the necessary guns to get to the Super Bowl and they're playing at home. Worried about the Vikes secondary vs. Brees and company, too.

  7. There's no way Minnesota puts up 35 on the Cowboy's D. Unless they score on D, which could happen if Romo goes all schizo like he is prone to do.

Another fine prediction! 34-3. I guess Minnesota didn't put up 35 points on the Cowboys D afterall. <_<

  8. Tampa Bay has Freeman. What a joke and a waste of a draft pick. If they were smart, they would trade the #1 pick (if they are in deed the worst team at season's end) and try to pick up a quarterback and a McCoy. The draft will be rich in QBs. Freeman is not going to help them. He is incredibly awful.

  9. Difference?

    OU-Landry/Broyles

    UT-McCoy/Shipley

    Huge difference IMO.

well if we play UT as good as we played OU and as good as OU played UT, we should have a decent shot.

UT's O'Line is better than OU's. OU had a ton of injuries this year that hurt them (no pun intended). Not a real good comparison IMO.

you are right, but i was thinking NU v. OU v. UT (transient property type thing) and OU played with UT and we played with OU. the question is if we will be able to match intensity and passion.

Oklahomas offense is worse than ours (team stats), and a hell of a lot worse than Texas (ranked #5 OFFENSE

  10. I love a man who doesn't mind repeating himself. :)

And no, Colorado isn't our rival any more than Missouri or Iowa State. We should get up for them and beat their butts, but let's not feed into the fallacy that they are anywhere near our level.

I would say that Colorado is more of a rival than Iowa State. Colorado always plays NU tough and their fans are downright hostile when we visit there. I would hate for us to lose to Colorado a lot more than to Iowa State or Missouri.

Hell, who am I kidding? I hate Colorado. I would rather lose every game of the year, with the exception of trouncing Colorado in Colorado, then lose all the other B12 games combined.

  11. hey guys! this is my first post! signed up for this forum cause i recently left Omaha and moved to El Paso tx for work. needed a way to talk to some huskers! these UTEP fans down here crack me up. No idea what a real fan is. anyways, i wonder what people from other college forums are saying about this voting? SUH is dominating!

    GO BIG RED

Just got off a few other message boards. There seems to be a consensus that someone has been running a script. They just can't fathom that idea that Suh is leading their heisman hopeful darlings by such a wide margin. They don't understand Nebraska fans! I would think that Notre Dame fans would a least understand this...as we went to their stadium and reddened it out.

  12. A group of my friends and I are going to the 300th sellout game in a few weeks. We have a friendly competition for coming up with the best T-shirt for the game. I know the members of Huskerboard are a creative bunch and thought that I would elicit some ideas from y'all to help me come up with a cool T-shirt for the game. (There's four of us going, but we have two seats here and two seats there...so each of us wearing a number won't work). thanks - SC

  13. I'll add my .02...

Releasing players from the team is a vital and necessary option for a head coach.

These players are kids and if a coach allows these kids free reign a program can degenerate into "The Lord of the Flies" rather quickly. No player, whether he's a scrub, walk-on, a 5 :star stud or anything in between is above the rules. And, the fastest way for a coach to lose control over the team is the give preferential treatment to star players.

I totally agree with your .02. Makes me wonder what Brad Childress was thinking when he gave Brett Favre preferential treatment to skip training camp. You think AD is thinking "Hey, I'm an elite player...I should be able to skip training camp, too". The point is, you have to set limits, or, as you said, a coach will lose control of the team.

On the other hand, I think Bo genuinely cares about his players. He won't hang a player out to dry without good cause. GO BO! GO HUSKERS!
