I think my concern is not just with Chinander but the overall defensive philosophy that Frost was a part of at Oregon and UCF.   The offense is definitely elite, but the defense is mediocre at best.  While scoring tons of points is fun to watch, I would almost rather have the elite defense (like NU had in 2009) and then work toward improving the offense.  That's just me though.  I am certainly willing to give whoever the defensive assistants are a chance to show they can excel in the BIG.

As Moos referenced, an exciting offense puts fans in the seats and a stout defense wins championships.  Why not both!

Regarding people’s suggestions of former players and Blackshirts being selected for Frost’s staff — look, just because you played, doesn’t mean you can coach.  Not all players are leaders and most must be lead.  Plus, you don’t just jump into coaching at this level.  Seriously, some of the suggestions are mind boggling — players that have zero coaching experience !?

Second— look at who coaches hire for their staff :  other coaches within their network.  Our previous 3 coaches did it, Frost will too.  Look at his current staff— they are all linked to him.

Coach Dewitt (assoc. head coach, LB’s, Special Teams)- was UNI’s d- coordinator after Frost.

Chinander (DC) coached at UNI and Oregon with Frost

Austin (OL) grad assistant at Oregon, played at NU

Dawson (DL) connected to Frost through Chip Kelly

Held (RB) former teammate of Frost, 17 years in coaching

Verduzco (QB) coached at UNI with Frost

    Raymond (director of player dev)

same position at Oregon when Frost was there.

Dillon (player personnel) from Oregon also

Ruud (qca) player at NU, no coaching experience

Haines (off. GA) played at Oregon when Frost coached there

Duval (strength) was at NU when Frost played here

That leaves 3 coaches on his current staff that he didn’t have ties to.  And 2 of them were at UCF previously.

Connect the dots.  Scott won’t be making any big name, splash hires for assistants.

There'll be a larger pool of resources to be used to get the assistants Frost wants and put together a group that he thinks is necessary to maximize success. There very well could be more alternates to the staff than is believed.

Anyone see this? Herbstreit trolling Nebraska again, says he he's heard Frost is going to Florida State

Chap doesn't even get Frost's birthplace correct. Scott wasn't a Wood River native (born there). That's where he played high school ball and one of schools that his parents coached at.

    Stick to peddling soap Herbstreit!

I've heard the rumors that his wife loves it there and doesn't want to move to Lincoln... I'd like to assume that Frost  told her sometime during their courtship that if the Nebraska HC job were to ever become available and he was offered the position, that he would take it. I mean I think that'd be a deal breaker if she wouldn't have gone along with it.

Scott will make sure his bride is kept warm and has plenty of traveling opportunities. Kona is especially open to heading northward.

I just wanted to resurrect this thread and ask (in hindsight) if anyone still thinks we should have let Riley go mid-season.  Florida got a solid guy, but not really who they wanted.  TN -- no need to rehash what's happening there.  UCLA may have made out pretty good, but there really wasn't much of a season left anyway by then.

    In Moos you should trust.

No. Both for Nebraska and Scott Frost. Respecting Mike Riley and his support helps to later unite the fan base and respects relationships

players have with their coach.  A sensible, long game approach. Nothing would have been achieved in this instance other than more

distractions and bad feelings being generated.

Longtime lurker here but wanted to pass on some interesting info. I hope it’s not true. My family has some friends whose son coaches currently with Leach. My dad ran into them last week and they said they were spending Thanksgiving in Washington. Then he said “looks like I’m going to be spending lots of time in Nebraska next year”.

Son that coaches with him not necessarily Leach.  Option as an assistant.  Interest in upcoming coach in the east as well as part of building solid staff.

Heat on Moos to finalize. There are legitimate options. UCF making push to keep.

Seems Riley dismissed Saturday. Could remain at NU in some capacity??? Recruiting and player development?

Replacement named as early as Sunday or Monday.

  8. Ground rules being negotiated. Scotty plays dodgeball. Six or seven days there will be reaching for the lever.

Something's brewing in recruiting and offensive player development.

Complaints on such issues as stale popcorn, cold dogs continue to be fielded...

All speculations heretofore of coarse. (Ha)

    Trust Moos! :-j
