One of the things that's missing, is that Frost's offense typically targets the safeties and tries to push them around and get in their heads. We're way overdue for a big play where the safety gets caught flat-footed.

There it was. Snelson was wide open.

Just telling ya what my eyeballs tell me.

That's why I said technically. We've definitely lost our rhythm and they've been the first team to get us out of our game.

I think you miss understood.  Went to the game, and USF scored, back to Nebraska, then to the game and they scored again.  Bad luck, will stay away until after the game is over.  lol

Yeah, that was "C'mon, man! Stop jinxing my team!"

Going to quit checking in on this game, twice, just to watch USF to score!!!!  Need to concentrate on Nebraska this afternoon!!!

    C'mon, man!

    They need to unleash Tre'quan.

USF receivers don't appear too fast. UCF safeties and DBs a step slow. I expect them to get in sync soon. I think they are smaller and quicker, just not sticking with the receivers.

They're there with the receivers, they're just small or out of position.

Edit: The USF receivers have not been lightning, they're just either taking advantage of blown coverage or catching balls over the UCF DBs that aren't turning around.

Why is this thread on the main football page?  Frost isn't our coach yet.

Because the results of this game could determine when Riley gets fired. And when a Frost announcement is made. And lots of Husker fans are watching it.

Which sucks but unfortunately is your reality. And that narrative exists because it’s largely true. It’s also the main reason why no really good coach is going to stay there for very long. I actually think Frost may not leave this year but long term any good coach with ambition is going to want to see what he can do against the big boys. Also not beIng able to sell out a 44,000 seat stadium doesn’t help either and seriously hurts your chances for P5 conferences to want you guys to join.

It is our reality and it is why we will have trouble unless some conference realignment happens. And I get why the CFP and the P5 would like to keep us out and make it as difficult as possible for us to succeed. As I said, if UCF was P5, I would want our administration to do the same thing.

What I don't like is when I see fans parroting the same talking points. We can agree that UCF still has a ways to go until they are ready to even compete for a playoff spot, but let's not pretend that the best G5 teams don't consistently outperform expectations and are bottom-feeders when they do get a chance to change conferences.

Once again, week in and week out playing P5 schools is a whole different animal then the one off bowl game. Take your Miss St. example. During the season when you guys are lining up with UConn and Maine, they have Auburn, Bama, LSU to deal with. I’m looking at this from a season perspective not game to game.

I'm not saying that it is the same animal. What I'm saying is that one-off bowl games are all we have. UCF would be happy for a chance to see how we would do against P5 competition during the season. But we're not allowed. All we have are OOC games against middling-to-crappy P5s (again the only ones that will give us a home-and-home) and one-off bowl games.

We don't get a lot of chances to prove ourselves. When we do, either we won because we didn't have the wear-and-tear of a P5 schedule, when we lose, it's because G5 teams don't belong on the same field as P5 teams. Did I mention that after we beat Georgia, the SEC pulled out of the Liberty Bowl? It was a good deal for them when our conference was crappy, but as it got closer and closer to beating them and eventually did, suddenly we were no longer a good measuring stick.

Just edited my post and listed 10 off the top of my head that I was updated bet anything could go undefeated with your schedule. As I mention in that post, a huge advantage of a schedule and conference like yours is that your mid and lower tier teams are so bad whereas in the big ten or Sec those mid tier teams like Northwestern, Iowa, LSU or Miss St. still take a toll on your team if you win.

While UCF being undefeated is impressive especially under the short time Scott Frost has been there, I think that a good majority of the top 20 teams in college football would be undefeated with the Knights schedule as well.  If let's say they had an away game at Wisconsin, or at Miami and came out with a W that could capitalize a "message to the playoff committee" about being under serious consideration.

Honestly answer the question of what you think UCF record would be if they played in the SEC. Probably .500 at best.

They in no way should even be mentioned in playoff talk.

That's a fair point about the better conference taking a toll, but I just don't see 10-15 teams playing as well as us this year. I know this because I watched the UCF that played Miss State in the Liberty Bowl. Everyone predicted a State blowout. "CUSA can't hang with the bottom of the SEC, let alone a bowl-eligible one". We lost by a touchdown. *shrug "I guess Miss State wasn't as good as we thought.."

We went back to the Liberty Bowl and played Georgia. "The Bulldogs will DESTROY UCF. No team in the SEC has stopped their offense ALL YEAR." 10-6 UCF *shrug "That was weird"

We go to the Fiesta Bowl against Baylor, same story. I'm not shocked y'all think we're there's no way that we could hang in the SEC. Maybe we'll see, maybe we won't. But I know this UCF team is better than any of those previous teams. We'll see if they live up to what I see.

Though, in the current setup, it is kind of "what you get for playing in the AAC". I would be more okay with UCF being in an 8 team playoff, although I doubt they're actually one of the best 8 teams in the country.

Here is how I look at it: How many teams in the country would be undefeated with UCF's schedule? I'd be willing to bet there would be anywhere from 10-12 (maybe a few more).

UCF's best win is against Memphis. Memphis' best win is SMU? Houston?..... Having Memphis as your best win isn't going to get a team anywhere near a playoff.

This is the trap we're in. SEC teams schedule OOC scrubs and everyone's like, "It's fine, they have to play the SEC! They should take it easy." Then when they get beat in big bowl games, it's like, "They just had a down year." "So&So played like it was their Super Bowl."

In the AAC, the top teams are beating the teams that will actually schedule home and homes with them, which are middle of the road P5s. Then it's like, "You need to play someone better than that..." and "They need to show more than that, they're only playing AAC teams..."

Yep. No disrespect to UCF intended but this is the truth. I think there are probably more then 10 teams that would be undefeated with that schedule honestly.

Nebraska might even be bowl eligible with that schedule :)

Again, it is tough to go undefeated. USF is a good team and they couldn't even go undefeated with their cupcake schedule. Are there really 10 teams that could go undefeated with our schedule? I'll concede that there are no marquee wins, but beating the crap out of a bunch of decent teams is no small feat. Just because you're favored for every game does not mean you will win them all.

Get their shot at what? The Playoff? UCF is a real nice looking team (better than Nebraska obviously), but they're nowhere near one of the four best teams in the country, and that's what this is all about isn't it? Does anyone really believe that they're better, or even have a better resume, than Oklahoma, Alabama, Auburn, Clemson, Miami, Georgia, Wisconsin, Ohio St., Penn. St., etc.? This is not shot at UCF, or Scott Frost; but I doubt UCF is really one of the top 15 teams in the country, and they even if they are their resume isn't good enough to prove any different.

No one is saying that UCF is one of the top 4 teams in the country, we are definitely better than #15. It is hard to go undefeated and this team has remained undefeated without a bye.

And Nebraska fans should know from experience the difference between their undefeated and 1-loss teams.

I believe the argument is that UCF should get a chance to show how good this team is. That's really not possible in the current set-up. But if there were an 8-team playoff UCF should absolutely be included.

When we went to the Fiesta Bowl, everyone was talking about what a joke we were and how Baylor was going to blow us out and how few fans we would bring. We beat up on Baylor, bring a bunch of fans, and everyone just shrugs, "Wow, that was weird. I should forget that ever happened." We finish #10 and that was a conservative ranking.

We have a better team now that is tired and due for a loss. And if (when) that loss happens, all the P5 are going to say, "See! Told you they weren't for real. Stupid mid-major!" What more can we do?

If this team goes undefeated, I just hope it's not met with another shrug. "That's what you get for playing in the AAC..."
