I don't see anything wrong with accepting the job, but stating that he is finishing the season for UCF. Nebraska people can get in touch with recruits, and tell them to watch UCF win their conference and bowl game, and imagine how much fun it would be playing for Frost at Nebraska.

It's a massive distraction. The focus shifts to where are recruits, asst coaches going, players figuring out transfers. We've seen this before, your chance of winning games with a lame duck coach drops precipitously.

Frost isn't saying anything because he can't! I mean, people do realize that, right?

He could say, "I'm going to be at UCF next year. Mark it down. Ignore all rumors to the contrary." That's what I would do if I was planning to be at a school next year and I didn't want to lose recruits.

Otherwise, other coaches could say, "ATS is gone. Have you seen him deny anything? You should play for us, we'll still be here next year."

5 million a year buys one of those nannys who will wake up with your kid.  Or he can send the kid to grandma's house if he comes back home.  If "whatever job he wants" is Nebraska, why not do it now?

I understand your point. But yes as time goes by and we take steps towards a national title being a realistic goal our expectations will rise where they once were. By everything I have heard Scott Frost is an aggressive coach and wants success and challenges. If at some point he is going to step up to big boy football those expectations are going to exist in any major football conference, especially tradition rich programs.

It all depends on what Scott wants- do you think he wants to play at the highest level and see what he can do.

Or does he wants to play small ball and win easy games.

You mentioned above he turned down jobs and accepted UCF because it was perfect for him to take the next step. But what could be more perfect for him than his dream job.

If he doesn't have enough experience to make his system work there, it's probably not going to be good timing. UCF has tons of speed recruits around. Our issue is finding a system that overcomes our disadvantages on the lines.

But Nebraska is surrounded by power recruits, I don't think it's that easy to just move somewhere new and make everything work as well. Higher competition? Yes, but a lot of schools with equal resources and a lot more experience/connections etc. AAC is filled with poor programs with new, ever-shifting coaches in worse recruiting areas.

There ya go. I think we could get there but I agree with you. The expectations on Frost won't be that high.

I really enjoy you Nebraska fans, but I think you really underestimate your expectations. These are your expectations now, but will they be the same after a couple division championships?

Look at UF, they're saying a lot of the same things. But do any of us really think they'll have lowered expectations forever? Look at FSU. National championships don't buy you as much time as they used to anywhere.

From your perspective, what more is there to accomplish at UCF if they win a conference championship and play in a Jan. 1 bowl game? Apologies if you've answered this in this thread already - feel free to copy pasta.

As an outsider, it doesn't seem like much. UCF is not a CFP contender and will assuredly be overlooked so long as only four teams make it in. Conference realignment is dependent on several things and likely wouldn't be an option for several more years.

So, while Frost very well could choose to stay at UCF (or take another job), I don't see what he would need to 'finish' at UCF. There are several factors that could keep him at UCF but 'finishing' something seems irrelevant by this point.

I don't think it's about accomplishment, I think it's about buying time and finding the perfect situation. UCF was PERFECT for Frost. He couldn't lose. If he stays, whatever he does will look impressive. Then he's in Petersen territory when he was at Boise, where he can find whatever job he wants.

For those of you that have kids, remember when your first was born. Would you want to land your dream job when you were that sleep-deprived? He can sleepwalk at UCF and look like a genius. Maybe he wants a couple more seasons of that.

“If somebody offers you an amazing opportunity but you are not sure you can do it, say yes – then learn how to do it later!”

     Richard Branson

Frost turned town quite a few head coaching gigs to come to UCF and it was because there were low expectations (0-12), easy access to recruits, and easy access to the recruits that he needed to run his system.

Nebraska is not that. Everyone is wondering if Nebraska has the clout it used or if the environment has changed so drastically that you're no longer relevant. I think there are really high expectations here because no one wants to face the possibility that recruiting and geographic disadvantages are countering your rich history.

So if Frost came here, he would probably struggle for a while. Remember your first kid? Now imagine having to fly to recruiting trips. And who knows if it would even work? It would be a much slower progression than UCF and couple bad assistant hires, a couple bad media interactions, a couple bad bounces and he could be done before he gets started. I think he's weighing it carefully.

  7. 4 minutes ago, Huskers93-97 said:

ATS Knight. In your honest opinion. What do you think Frost is going to do.

I'm not sure. I think that he's weighing a lot of things, which is why he isn't saying very much. I think that it was between UF (chance to win), Nebraska (going home/dream job), and UCF (low pressure/build something).

Gator fans are saying that Frost was not the top of their board, but I don't believe them. I think Frost turned them down and now they're in Chip Kelly purgatory with no coach. So now it's between Nebraska and UCF. I think Frost wants to coach Nebraska EVENTUALLY, but his dream job opened sooner than he wanted it to.

Now he's deciding if he wants to continue to build and develop UCF in a low pressure environment and risk losing his dream job if some lifer comes in, or does he go to Nebraska now, while he's still developing as a coach and if he can't adapt his system, he could lose the job forever.

    Just my humble opinion.

I think many Nebraska fans would have to be sold on Sumlin.  I don’t think he’s the right fit.

Sharp and Benning have both leaned towards us not getting Frost and I tend to agree that Frost isn’t a slam dunk like many are assuming.

Hard pass on Sumlin. The incredible fashion in which he found a way to lose at UCLA to start the season is a microcosm of A&M during his tenure. They look awesome at times but most always fizzle out.

No thanks on Sumlin. I thought we discussed already ruling out coaches that are about to get fired somewhere else.

From what I can tell Sharpe and Benning are the only 2 pushing the no frost rhetoric. Which I am all for differing view points- but they seem to be standing alone on that one. Unless someone else knows anyone else saying that?

It seems like this Sumlin idea is starting to snowball. Let's all contact Moos today and tell him that we prefer Sumlin to Frost.

Am I supposed to root for UCF or USF this weekend?  I'm torn on this one, but I don't think I can survive another week of not knowing if he is coming here.

I know it would be better for y'all if USF won and then Frost questions will be answered quickly, but please root for UCF. USF is a terrible program filled with garbage people. Their efforts to impede UCF have kept both programs from moving forward. I can't say I have an opinion on the moral character of any other program/school (maybe Miami).

Does Nebraska have a rival y'all consider fairly evil?

  10. I'm hearing from Gator fans that I trust that the sources they trust are saying Kelly to UF is a done deal. There was a suggestion that they will wait until the end of the season because of his arrangement with the 49ers.

So take that for what it's worth: twitter people -> UF fan you don't know -> UCF fan that joined the board yesterday -> message board

I love how some of you try to explain away an 0-12 season as some kind of minor lapse. They lost every game 2015.... So, yeah. He rebuilt the thing from scratch.

He didn't really rebuild from scratch. That team was a good team, just every facet of the organization quit on our coach and he finally retired. So Frost didn't start with a bare cupboard.

you guys hes not coming to coach at nebraska hes happy were he is plzzz stop speulating

As much as I hope this is true, if he was happy "were he is" he would probably be saying different things. He's at the very least open to opportunities.

And I'm pretty sure message boards exist for the purpose of speulating.

I am one of the Nebraska people that loves the weather. 4 different seasons, different activities to enjoy in the different seasons. Something neat about a white Christmas- I couldn't imagine living somewhere it's 70 outside at Christmas. Pheasant hunting. I could go on and on about what's nice about Nebraska. Just because we don't have Disney world means we are bored. Also people are nice here, safe here. Low crime. I believe a report came out the omaha area is #1 best place to raise s family in entire country

I have no idea why UCF fans keep talking about Disney World. I don't know anyone at UCF or any alumni that go to Disney World for anything. It's on the other side of town (which is a BFD in Orlando), it's really only for kids, and no one wants to deal with the traffic. Having Disney World is good for the economy, but worthless for having stuff to do. I can't for the life of me understand "He'd be bored in Nebraska, we have Disney World here".

Not sure if you post on a UCF board, but you can tell them the majority of NU fans are not trolls.. it is absolutely stupid to join another board for the sole purpose of flaming/trolling. I went over to this site and had to sign up just to say Sorry for the idiots...

I don't really post. There are quite a few UCF fans, but our boards suck. There is no independent board like this one and the mod at the Rivals one is the worst. I'm sure he's a nice guy, but its anything goes insanity over there. Your trolls should feel at home. Y'all probably have sent enough reasonable people over there.

Welcome to our board and your input on UCF fans. Know that many of us are rooting for you guys to win out your season and go to a good bowl game.

We all love Scott and do want him to come home. Those of us who are older remember when he played here during our Golden Years.

I'm sad when I hear that some Nebraska fans have been jerks on other boards. Know that that isn't the norm. Most of us love football and enjoy talking about it with anyone. Again, welcome and best wishes for the remainder of your season.

I can say that the fans here are starting to convert me to being a Nebraska fan. Depending on what happens with Frost, I'll be rooting for y'all in the future. There is an abnormally high percentage of level-headed fans and welcoming fans here. Is that Nebraska as a state, Cornhusker nation, the midwest in general, or this board (like, you keep the crazies on the rivals board)?

Welcome to the board.  Regardless of the outcome, I hope you stick around.  Always good to have other fans views.

I've been a fan of NU for quite some time.  I've seen the ultimate highs and the current lowest of lows.

If you've never lived in Nebraska, the Huskers are hard to explain. The Huskers define Nebraska and Nebraskan's.  It's the only game in town. No competing colleges, no pro sports, nada.  We have the college world series and that's it. Frost is one of us.  A native son, the prodigal son returning home.  Y'all like him as he has got your program turned around.  We want the same.  Our last great year was with him at the helm.  He, more than any current coach available understands the fishbowl, the culture and the pressure that at times, could crush a diamond.   Most, myself included, see him as the guy who can get us back.  He has a long, storied, tumultuous and glorious history as a Husker.  Something a lot of UCF fans might have heard about, but only recently.  Twenty plus years after the events.  Many fans on this board remember his recruiting, going to Stanford, booing at ASU, booing when he came back and then cheering for him when he had one of the most impassioned speeches after beating UT.....and balled out like nobodies business.  He played angry, with an edge (for 2 years).  He has been the goat and the GOAT...  The fans at NU are knowledgeable, passionate and will defend NU, Nebraska and Frost.  It's simply what we do.

I have a good friend who is a UCF grad.  We talk about Frost and only now is he realizing what a phenomenal "get" Frost was.  from his college days, experience in the NFL, coaching tree and coaching experience.  Again, many on this board, myself included wanted him hired when Pelini was fired.  Wanting him home is nothing new.  In fact, one theory was Riley was simply hired to be the bridge as the anti-Bo until such time we could offer Frost.  The implosion if this season, sped that timeline up.

Lastly, a lot of Huskers follow former Huskers and where they are now or programs that run good systems.  I know guys who have Ohio Bobcat gear and have followed UCF since last year.  Folks know how Liberty (Gill) and Campbell (Minter) are doing.  Many can tell you where former Huskers are assistants and give updates in Huskers in the NFL.   Its what this fan base truly is.  Maybe "obsessed" is too strong of a word, but they are passionate and follow their Huskers at every level.  Nothing new.

Best of luck the rest of the season.  Would love to see Frost do well and go out on top this season.

None of the UCF fans knew what we were getting with Frost. Most of us looked at it as a pretty good hire with question marks. We were happier that he chose us over Syracuse (which felt like confirmation of how far our program has come) than that we got him specifically.

Nebraska fans are definitely passionate, that's just not a thing in most of Florida. Our fans are more like Miami fans than anything else. The big question for me is: does Frost want that?

Passionate fans are fun to play against, not so fun when they get your address, talk to your wife while she's shopping for groceries, etc. We're hoping that he wants to coach for a few more years in a low-pressure environment, similar to Spurrier golfing all the time at UF.

But he's smart. He might be seeing that the environment has changed and if he wants to retire in Nebraska, someone else might take the job he wants. He might also be a competitor who sees that the coaches that are successfully strike when the iron is hot. *shrug

I just hope he finishes the season.

Any possibility in ucf looking to promote the oc or DC should frost leave?

There was talk about promoting the DC earlier in the season, but that talk has died down as the defense has gotten less consistent. No one is talking about the possibility that Frost leaves and takes the staff with him.

    6 minutes ago, Nebfanatic said:

If there is any year UCF could get in it is this year. Alot of chaos would have to go down, but at this point it's possible

No one at UCF thinks we'll get in, even if everything bounces the right way. If we finish the season undefeated, it would be difficult for them to rationalize keeping us out next year. That's our only (slim) hope.

  17. There's no reason to feel bad if Frost leaves. We got way more than we bargained for and he has been professional and fantastic in every way. Even if he left this week and we lost every game from here on out, there's no place for us to complain.

The truth is, almost all UCF fans would rather see him at Nebraska than UF. Guy wants to go home and raise his kid near grandparents, who can fault him? But if he goes to UF, then it feels like he's more of a mercenary than we thought. We were just a stepping stool to a better program.

With Nebraska we can say, "He really wanted to stay here, but grandparents..."
