Did Zig graduate? People aren't talking about him and I find that curious as he, just like Cross get overlooked for the type of work they did for us.

I have not been impressed at all with ozigbo but I actually see him being the top back next year.  The change in blocking schemes and the lack of an elusive back on the roster makes me think that the staff will be able to utilize him much more than the other guys.  Frosts version of the spread puts a lot of stress on opposing linebackers and having a bulldozer type of running back will force teams to respect the inside lanes more than the others.  Tre could be that guy but he just doesn't cut well enough.  I think for the time being we are going to be resigned to using the system to our advantage more than the individual talent in the backfield, and to that end I think Devine probably brings more to the table than the others.

  2. There won't be any major realignments for at least 5 years, and when it happens I would bet that the schools most likely to be targeted and be accessible are Kansas and Vatech to the Big 10, and even that is a stretch.  The big 12 will exist only to the extent that it can serve the interests of Texas, but to that end they are in the catbird seat.  Oklahoma could move to the SEC but why would  they?   Kstate and Iowa st don't bring media markets that are attractive to any conference, and the remaining schools like their association with Texas because it brings them credibility.  You've got Cincinnati out there that could be a target of the ACC, but that move would be reactionary as opposed to a first move.

Looking at what happened last time, the only real impetus for conference realignment was Texas pissing off the attractive schools in the big12.  Who's going to be that player next time?

  3. Masry is a good kid and worked really hard on his grades since he transferred to York.  McCool didn't have the resources to help him catch up after the childhood he had but with the help he's gotten it's been remarkable how much he has grown in 3 years.

FYI, my daughter's were hanging out with him last weekend and it sounds like frost cooled on him for more than just the grades issue.

Great coaches can see when things need to be changed or mixed up.  The reason for the losses in the 67' and 68' seasons was lack of offense.  In all of those losses in those two seasons, we were shutout not even scoring a single point in three of the eight losses.  The most we scored in those eight losses was 16 points.  Devaney could see we needed something different.  TO overhauled the offense.  This really isn't a lot different than what Saban did in the NC game benching Hurts for the true freshman.  Great coaches make these changes.

The question I have is whether you'd want Frost to mirror TO's career or Devaney's career?  Keep in mind, Frost is eight years older than TO was when he took over and only four years younger than Devaney when he took over.  Would you rather have Frost win two NCs in eleven years here and then retire?  Or, would you rather Frost be in his mid-60's before winning his first NC?  We've just spent the last three years playing Bill Jennings type football.

After serious deliberation, I have decided that I want both.

So if they turn around and do well this year are they still slow and weak? What will you make of their body shape then?

I'll probably attribute it to a change to more zone blocking.  We will know more as the season goes on with them if we see more pulling and have a better idea of their strength and agility.   I haven't focused on their body shape other than it looks like corroborating evidence to the fact that they looked weak and slow.

Thats cool. Still can't draw any conclusions from pictures and there is absolutley no way to say that strength training was the issue with our offensive line. I don't think anyone will disagree great lineman equal better football teams, but trying to deduct a linemans skill level and strength based off of pictures is ridiculous. Drawing conclusion on our coaches gameplan intentions from a picture is even more ridiculous.

Don't need the pictures.   We have the video of them getting schooled over and over again.   The pictures and the reports that they weren't eating at the training table or going to the strength center just corroborate that.   I'm not sure what exactly the counter argument is to the whole issue because all of the evidence points in the same direction: they were slow, weak, ill-trained,  and ineffective.

the players did know it was free and what they served?

That's the bizarre part.   Why wouldn't you eat a free, high quality meal every time instead of paying for crap? If I had the opportunity to eat lobster for free I sure as heck wouldn't pay for a McDonald's hamburger.

That was the other part of the report that I didn't post.  It wasn't mandatory under Riley.  And the inference was it wasn't happening voluntarily.

Funny how that can be shocking and yet not surprising at the same time.

I agree, but Will Honas will fill his spot, and maybe even be better than Weber. We got JUCOs in the positions on D we had holes at

Honas has potential but there's going to be a learning curve for him next year.  He's always played in a 4-3, and the adjustment into a 3-4 won't be easy.   Fortunately he's an inside linebacker and if they keep him inside that's an easier transition that the outside would be.  I'd like to see him add 10 pounds or so to be at a more ideal weight.  The kids going to take a pounding playing in the big10

Not that this is only applicable to the offensive line but it seemed appropriate here:

Word is the new staff made it mandatory for guys to eat three meals a day at the training table in the stadium.  Want to make sure everyone is eating right.

I'm not going to question what was happening under Riley,  but it's hard to imagine that any staff wouldn't require this and that any player wouldn't do it on his own.

In the 11 seasons before TO, Daveney won 101 games while only losing 20.  Michigan State had four consecutive losing seasons before Saban.  By year five, Michigan State had their best record in over three decades and their highest ranking in over three decades.  In the two years before Saban, LSU had won 6 games while losing 15 games.  The year before Saban, LSU lost every single conference game they played.  By year four, LSU won a NC.  When Saban took over at Alabama, he took over a program that had been hammered with sanctions.  By year three, he won his first of five NCs in his 11 seasons at Alabama.

How a coach finishes his career is important.  However, is it any more important than how he started or what he started with?  Saban started at both Michigan State and Alabama when they were both enduring NCAA sanctions.  Devaney followed a coach who went 15-34-1 in five seasons.  In my opinion, TO isn't even the greatest Nebraska football coach.  This honor belongs to Devaney.  Devaney won his first conference title in year two just two years after Jennings had us going 3-6-1.

Lots of GREAT points there,  but it's worth noting that even devaney credited Osborne for the 1969 turnaround and said he was pretty much running the show for the 2 national title squads.   Technically no, he wasn't the head coach but if you look at devaneys comments at face value then Tom was actually responsible for turning the program around and being instrumental in changing the way strength and conditioning was viewed by the entire football community.

This is nothing more than conjecture. You're trying to correlate the look of one player to another and then draw shaky conclusions between the two. People are built differently even when they're the exact same height.

If you want to criticize a linemen's strength and fitness, find his measurable stats and have it. This thread is full of some pretty asinine hot takes right now.

Well considering that Alabama's line pushed defenders around and Nebraska's line got pushed around by defenders, it stands to reason that they are a stronger group.  The picture is just further evidence of that.  Conjecture would be saying that not a single one of our linemen would have started at Alabama this year, although it's probably an opinion that most people would agree with.

  13. Michigan state is going to be the bellwether game this year.    They return something like 20 starters from a pretty good team.   At the same time, we've always matched up with them equally for whatever reason.    This year we will see just how much the team has bought into the system and how hard they worked in the off-season by this game.
