I honestly don't know who that coach would be.  Top 10 established coaches aren't coming here to slog through during a rebuild and it is a rebuild.  Devaney built Nebraska and Osborne maintained it and added to the legacy his last 5 years.  But is was built.  This needs to be built but in a world with 85 scholarships instead of the no limits of the Devaney era.

I think the problem people are having is that people are conflating a “rebuild” to being a top five program, which yes will take more than a season, to a “rebuild” where Nebraska doesn’t get embarrassed by ranked teams, doesn’t struggle to beat lower level P5 programs (and even poor sun belt teams), and makes progress on ball control and penalties.

We should be seeing more of that than we are and in my opinion we are behind on it. And it isn’t explained away by “inheriting a dumpster fire” because one of losses was to a first year coach of a program who also “inherited a dumpster fire”

But just because we are behind doesn’t mean we can’t catch up. I just think it does no favors to anyone to justify what we’ve been seeing so far in 2019.

Oh it's definite that's it's not the biggest improvement we expected. I'll be happy to see how the first half of this season's stats compare to the second half. To see if we are seeing the same improvement.

I hope to god we can improve quicker than 1.5 points on both offense and defense and the defense giving up 68 fewer yards per game.

    2018

    scoring offense - 30

    scoring defense - 31.3

    total offense - 456.2

    total defense - 433.5
    turnover margin - -2

    2019, through 5 games

    scoring offense - 31.8

    scoring defense - 29.8

    total offense - 435

    total defense - 401.4

    turnover margin - -4

We are currently better at three stats that I listed than last year.

Since this thread appears to be completely hijacked I’ll ask:

Do you think the problem isn’t that he was wrong about his statement, but that the improvement you’re showing is minuscule?

If you watch the Nebraska Football Show with Scott Frost you can see the play where the incident took place in the first play they showed. It happens at the end of the play, Mo Barry gets hit by the OSU lineman and falls down.  Davis seeing this jumps onto the OSU lineman and then throws a huge right hand when the OSU player is down on his stomach. It’s hard to see ,but it was a big punch and honestly he’s lucky to get just a one game suspension. If they had seen it happen live then he would’ve been kicked out of the game and suspended this week too.

Lol if this is true then maybe Davis and Barry should work on not getting sent into outer space off the line.

You're getting pancaked so you throw a cheap shot. That’s not football. No wonder Frost made that statement. He knows.

I think some of that has to do with misinterpretation of his answer. They asked Walters why we didn't go back to it later, not specifically the next drive IIRC. So the reason we didn't go back to it immediately could've been the look the defense was giving us, and the reason we didn't go back to it later was because at that point it was more out of reach than 21-0.

Plausible.  I wish we had a media bank that wasn’t worthless because there are tons of things I’d love follow up questions on and it would help with the speculation that goes on.

But you see what I'm saying though, right? You tend to need to throw downfield when you're down by 21, so isn't the whole "rolling out a bunch of new I-formation running plays" thing kind of a non-issue as far as the Ohio State game goes?

Your point is a good one. But just speaking for myself, I'd rather save the best stuff for the Wisconsin game. That's the most important game of each season for the foreseeable future.

Of course, people will pile in calling out the idea that we're actually good enough to not show our full hand. That's fine.

Oh no, I’m not being run the ball guy, im just saying the claim of this offenses strength is that it’s fast and puts points up in a hurry. To say the game was out of reach is an odd one.

We'll see what happens these next four games.

Indeed we will. But saying “we need to hold back because there’s no sense in showing everything in a loss” is a far cry from “this offense is explosive, no deficit is too big and teams are going to have to adjust to us”. Especially in a three score game in the first half.

I guess it's possible that your interpretation could be accurate. But on the flip side of that, when you're down by 21 points you're probably not going to come back by running out of the 'I.' You pretty much have to throw the ball typically.

So I'd lean on the side of interpreting it as "what good would it have done to run plays that can't quickly put points up on the board if it shows Wisconsin & Iowa some of our stuff for down the road?"

We could have not lost by 41 on national tv, set a record for a gameday loss by a host and made a better showing for the recruits in town?

I mean there are more reasons but those are a few for starters

Why wouldn’t the West championship be fantastic?

Did you think winning the big 8 was fantastic?  That conference only had one more team than what our division has now.

Plus, if they were to win the west, it would show growth during the season and wins over some good teams.

I’m not saying winning the west wouldn’t be a great show of improvement to this team, because it would be but I hope we aren’t equating a West division title to a Big 8 conference championship, especially in its final years.

Because those two aren’t the same. At all.

Frost said it best in the Illinois post game.  He has the evidence to prove a majority of calls go against the Corn Huskers. This conference has made us house rich, but at what cost?? To turn our weekends into a fun get together to drink and watch us get our asses kicked?? Absolute incompetent officiating, rigged schedules, and worst of all absolute boring traditions and teams.

The leadership at the University pissed our traditions down the drain, and worst of all cut our lifeline off to the massive population of the south.  Texas kids accounted for a large part of the roster and kept our heads above water for a long time.  Was playing in the world's nicest stadium for a title game that bad?? The honey moon is long over, it's time to go back.   and I'm sorry to any of you too young to not remember the vastly superior story lines we had within the big 12.  Cheers I won't log in again.

    I disagree.
