    An opponents view.

    Weakness

Defense. No matter what stat you look at, if it’s on the defensive side of the football, chances are Nebraska rates poorly. The Cornhuskers have given up 29.9 points per game, third-worst in the Big Ten — only ahead of Maryland and Rutgers — and it ranks tied for 83rd out of 130 teams. A similar story is told for total yardage allowed, passing and rushing defense, sacks, turnovers, etc.

Frost literally said that as long as we can just hold opponents to 30 or less we will be fine.

    Fine for cellar dwellers.

Not in the B10....maybe in the PAC 12 & AAC.  Not the B10

He needs to adjust his ideas about defense.

And stop covering for his best man.

When Scott was at Oregon they were 62-2 when scoring 31 or more points. Which is where his comment stems from.

Lol that's a pretty big assertion for the worst offense since 2004

Have we watched the same season?

That aside, did you not watch us hammer them with basically one core play and an RPO constraint? It reminded me of how Oregon use to basically tell the other teams what they were going to run presnap and still run for a million yards.

Our D is just fine.   As long as we hold our opponents to 30 or fewer points we’re fine according to HCSF.

FACT: Teams will have more possessions given the way we play offense

FACT: Teams will have more opportunities to score given they’ll have more possessions

Points per possession is the metric id use.

I try and learn from the best minds of football on the offensive side to know more about defense. Two of my favorites in regards to that are Urban Meyer and Chris Petersen. Both of them will tell you rule #1 to a successful offense is exploiting the numbers. Urban does his a tad different and draws a straight line from the center down the field towards the defense. He tries anything possible to have an extra blocker or play maker on either side. I mentioned this last year with plenty of screenshots when we played WI and how we aligned was just a failure from the jump and would require very good players to try and overcome the numbers battle. I've seen no difference or adjustemnts thus far under Chin. Of course once we get better players in we will be better, but I have seen nothing to show we can ever be a great defense under him.

Down 2 scores with 4:20 left in the game might have something to do with it.  Wiscy just needed to slow us down and prevent a quick score at that point.  It wasn't likely we make both 2 point conversions so we were really down 3 scores.  They rushed 3 on the play and 4 on the Noa catch.  37 points indicates they weren't worried about their offense's ability to grind out the clock.  If these were 1st qtr plays or 4th qtr and only down 1 score I'd be impressed.

You might find comfort in the fact that that we converted 3rd and 7 plus 3 times before the 4th quarter on what one would call slot slant RPOs.

Scheme-wise, Jim Leonard doesn’t have a shot moving forward. Scott absolutely hammered him and he simply had zero chance. For long stretches of this game he had zero idea how to even go about stopping us. We ran for more yards on them than Ohio State did for Lord sake.

Put in a fourth D lineman and pressure the opponent’s backfield.

Make definite pass coverage assignments so our LBs aren’t getting lured out of position.

    Stunt

Cover close and go for the pick when possible.

DTs put a hand on the runner, get your hands up for passes.

DEs stay home and guard your end.

    MLB shed your damn block

What are you even talking about? This is nonsense

in context I was speaking about the Iowa game. What they are doing, isn’t working.
Coach them to wrap up and actually tackle would be a huge change. Yes, they can be coached that.

    setting the edge-Terrible all year

get a pass rush- crappy all year

cover a player in motion- been burned by that too many times.

can NU attack? When’s it’s 3rd and forever. Put the corners in man. Force a quick throw. When I think about 3-4, I think Blitzburg. Capers. Kevin Steele. Attack, attack, attack. Blitzing the A and B gap with linebackers. If you say we don’t have the people to run it effectively, find a defense that NU can be at least mediocre. I’m sick of the 3rd and 15 type of situation being completed. No more 3rd and Chinander. NUs blitzes seem like they are measured by a sun dial. If your not going to bring heat, why play the 3-4? The guards are killing the lbs in the run game.
i doubt Frost lets his buddy go. I hope for some analysts to be brought in to help him. On offense, I see what Frost wants to do. On defense, I am going WTF? Cosgrove part 2.

So you’re of the opinion they aren’t coached to wrap up and tackle? Keep in mind, if you can see it *whispers behind hand* the coaches can see it too. It’s absolutely ridiculous to believe you can see something so basic that the coaches can’t.

    “Setting the edge”

Not sure what this means, but it’s fun to listen to someone talk about it and believe (s)he knows football. I’m not recalling a game where our outside contain got hammered all game long. Could you point to instances this weekend or in previous weeks where we got hammered on the outside? Who is responsible for “the edge?” What I see is a group of linebackers who simply have zero clue what their fit is from snap to snap.

We don’t have the people to run it at all. That we agree on. Where we disagree is that we should be running something different than what we want to run long term.

Overall, I’m not really sure there’s much in your post.

I will refrain from doing either of those things and pray for him being hired by the Seattle Mist.

Whenever I think of EZ-E I think about the Owa recruiting page. Man I’m getting old.

What a saga that was and what a heartbreaker. I mean... of course if I were there I probably would know a bit more.

Listen im just as encouraged as you about our offensive direction, but we can get 500+ ypg on anyone wont matter unless we put the ball in the end zone .

Not disagreeing, all I’m saying is given the talent that was available and the performance one can’t be anything but impressed with how they played. I’d go as far to say that with Wandale we win the game.

They stopped us when it counted, all that really matters is the points scored at the end.

We converted 4 times on 3rd and 7 plus on outside zone reads against the 5th best rushing/3rd down efficiency defense in the nation. We had inferior talent in this one compared to them at basically every spot but QB and one WR spot. It’s clear where the offense is going and it won’t be stopped by a regional power that’s failed on the national stage like Wisconsin.

  12. This cycle, we’re looking at taking Herrig or someone late between the first and second signing days if a good one falls to us.

I don’t think we’ll turn away a single WR that wants N. Probably the worst position group on this team. We’ve got room for 26, I see us taking 23 and holding 3 for transfers.

NU lost to stinking Purdue with a 3rd string QB. Let that sink in. It’s messed up.  The defense blows dead tuna. I can see the MD Qb running around  crazy on Chinander’s no pressure D and hitting big pass plays. Iowa will beat NU unless there is a whole sale change in defensive philosophy. Attacking verse whatever it is they are doing to get pressure. Thinking about puppies, kittens, and magical red unicorns will not change what this team is. They find ways to implode.(bad play calling, bad passes, special team hell, random bad snaps, no pressure defense, bad tackling...) If you put some skin in the game (gamble), your take would change. We all want NU to win but they are what their record is. Bad.

Id be curious what your recommendation for “whole sale change” in defensive philosophy is.
