I think vaccination rates of the team is pertinent considering the announcement today from the B1G that teams unable to compete due to COVID will forfeit the game.

Again, these are not gotcha questions being asked. They're being asked to every coach in the country.

You're framing this like he's mad because he doesn't think vaccination rates are relevant. He's asked a question about vaccination rates. He says someone else will speak about it later in the week. Then he's asked if HE wants to talk about vaccinations. Then he gives the clippy answer.

It was a redundant question and he got annoyed. He should know that's part of the media's job and not react that way, but this isn't him saying vaccines don't matter.

I don’t understand why people are so pissed off if Frost tried to cancel the Oklahoma game. First off he was trying to get another home game against an opponent we should beat plus add money to the local economy with extra home game. Don’t get me wrong I know it’s a big game and it looks bad canceling the game but Oklahoma has their best teams in years all around so would canceling the game be worse then getting blown out. I get it was a big rivalry in the past but it’s not now. I think Frost knows where’s his team is at so if we got a game we could win instead of Oklahoma and start the year   Off 6-0 going into Michigan team filling good and fans pumped up . Because getting blown out vs Oklahoma could set us back against Michigan St. There’s to many experts that doesn’t understand what it takes to coach a team and building a program I get playing the best and beating the best but we’re not there yet. So some times you need to step back and reevaluate a situation and see what’s better for program ask yourself is 4-0 with 3 straight home games better for program or 3-1 and getting blown out to Oklahoma better for program .

From a logical perspective I can understand why he doesn't want to play a top 5 team in non-con on top of playing three top-15 and several other top-30 teams in conference, and I'm sure there were financial and recruiting motives to getting another home game.

But this is sports. You don't back away from challenges. Especially not when fans are looking forward to them. If this is true (which I don't really know that it is; we're in some very big he-said-she-said territory here) that's something I'm absolutely not going to defend him on. At the very least they should have been smart enough to know this would have massive blowback.

Riley had a 9 win season and a 6 win season where 4 of the losses were decided by a combined 11 points on a hail mary, an overtime interception, a game-losing field goal with :04 seconds left and an awful incomplete pass that would have run out the clock and won the game.

Obviously there are close losses under Frost as well, and I'm not arguing against their different qualities of rosters and such, but there was more surface level reason to defend Riley after 30 games than Frost, sadly.

I don't agree with this at all. Riley inherited a team that was consistently ranked in the 20s or 30s in SP+ in Pelini's last several years and took it to the 60s in three seasons. Frost has taken a team in the 60s back into the 30s by his third season. If you are willing to apply literally any context to their two tenures this doesn't hold up.

Why do you hire a "kicking whisperer" if he's not actually going to be coaching the kickers?

They are clearly hiring the Kicking Whisperer to relay detailed technique and instruction through the outside linebackers coach. We are the only program that's ever done this and the death penalty should be considered.

While Lars may be catastrophizing a bit, I think there's definitely some merit to what he's saying. Why is it that Nebraska so consistently has division from within? Why is Nebraska so consistently their own worst enemy? Why are there seemingly so many malcontents at Nebraska? Why do we always tear down our own? Why are there constant leaks, secret audio tapes, rumors and pushing people out of jobs?

I think the Trev hire is bigger than maybe we realized. In his opening press conference he constantly referenced unity and trust. Both of those things have clearly been lacking in our Athletic Department for decades. I don't think he's just here to sound good in front of a microphone, he's here to clean up a deep seated mess.

Is Lars referencing these allegations or is he hinting at future stuff? I really can't tell.

This guy is probably full of BS so I take it with a grain of salt. But not going to lie, Damon Benning made it sound like there was some more going to come out and this has me a little nervous.

Lars is typically pretty solid but he also was the guy who reported Ed Stewart was going to be our new AD. I can't tell if these people are being overdramatic about what's come out, if there's more concerning stuff to come, or if they're talking about the leaks. Who knows but I'll be nervous until it's resolved.

SF likely has an attorney on retainer or at least on his contacts list.  Anyone in power needs that these days, along with cameras and even witnesses in the area or room with the principle people who are being interacted with.

Wouldn't basically anyone talking to investigators want an attorney in the room with them? Genuinely asking; I have no idea. Just doesn't seem as if it'd be uncommon to want a lawyer in a situation like this, regardless of guilt or severity.

In regards to this, does anyone know for a fact he doesn't make adjustments? People said the same thing about Pelini but he did better in the 2nd half of games more than some care to remember. I'm just wondering if there is anything out there to prove this or just something people say now?

Every team makes lots of adjustments at halftime. This is a dumb fan meme. It's not even true; we scored touchdowns on our first drive of the second half three of our last four games last year.

Yeah and Saban just happens to run into recruits during the dead period while walking through the hallways of their school for unrelated reasons.

We need to just find a way to be sneakier about this in the future like any good program is.

Every single school does this with analysts. You're just supposed to not get caught on video doing it.

How much value does adding OU and Texas really add?  Texas, for the foreseeable future, will be another Arkansas level school.  OU basically an A&M.  They aren't winning the west division, let alone the SEC.  I think the value of OU and Texas is greatly diminished after 2-3 years of taking their lumps in the SEC- making it less attractive to other schools.  I guess time will tell but I'm not concerned about the SEC stealing more teams.

I think you've made some big generalizations here. OU has been a top-five program since Lincoln Riley took over so that's a huge boon. Texas graded out as a top 25ish team for most of the last decade (obviously they're underperforming relative to where they should but they haven't really been actually bad at football like some are insinuating) so they're much ahead of Arkansas' level. And more than that, this is about the programs' overall prestige for negotiating a new TV deal, which both of these schools have a high value of.

  11. Hey everyone,

I'm starting a new Husker newsletter breaking down scheme and analytics and thought some people here might be interested in reading the latest post, "What is Nebraska's Offensive Identity?" Link below:

    https://black41flashreverse.substack.com/p/what-is-nebraskas-offensive-identity

I had previously mentioned in some other threads that I was revisiting our games and some of the personnel/tight ends stuff I had found, and people seemed interested, so I thought I'd share the post explaining overall what I discovered. That our tight end usage was that heavy -- basically heavier than any team I could find data for -- and the diversity of stuff Nebraska is running was pretty wild.

Also, if you enjoyed reading and want more stuff like this, sign up for the free newsletter! All of the posts will be delivered to your e-mail inbox. The plan is to have weekly posts breaking down each game in the same way I did these and a weekly opponent preview, plus some other stuff mixed in when I feel it's necessary. And please share with anyone who might be interested in Husker football or scheme!

I would just do a "where are they now" presentation on the transfers.  Not like the guys who have left as of late have set the world on fire.

Outside of Greg Bell, every transfer people love to bring up has done exactly nothing impressive at their new schools (FWIW I think Wandale and JD will have very good seasons this year so they'll probably be added to the list).

  13. I think the "we're going to find one guy" thing is some coach speak/motivational thing. When he's had enough capable ball carriers Frost has given three backs carries pretty consistently every year he's been an OC or head coach. And that's before any injuries. I also gotta imagine Johnson will get some carries or be involved somehow because his speed makes him different type of back than the other guys.

    Some rankings of note:

    #3 Oklahoma

    #4 Ohio State

    #6 Wisconsin

    #16 Iowa

    #17 Michigan

    #24 Minnesota

    #32 Nebraska

    #51 Michigan State

    #52 Purdue

    #76 Northwestern

    #81 Illinois

    #88 Buffalo

Big things here seem to be Michigan and Minnesota making jumps (both were around #30 in the February rankings) and Buffalo dropping. Everything else looks about the same.

Saying someone doesn't play the game of football particularly well and why isn't hate. You've been listening to too many really weak political people and or lived a very very sheltered life. Youre the one that brought up his age- you were off by right at 3 years.

Yes, lets measure how great we play by how we do against what is traditionally one of the worst college teams. But then I guess were supposed to judge it against what Shiano will have in the future vs what he had last year and with lots of the previous years players. Makes complete sense :D Now I guess Im "hating" Rutgers, pointing out they had the 11th best defense last year. Sorry Greg Shiano- didn't mean to offend you, please dont cry, I'm sure you have MANY redeeming qualities and you love kittens.

And BTW don't ever criticize a President or Business Owner- because you've never been the President or owned a business- be consistent.. I did coach QBs for more than a decade- many college QB camps etc So Im no guru ( I dont listen to opera), but I know more than you.

Accusing someone of living a sheltered life and then busting out a "I know more than you" later in the post when you can't convincingly defend what you're saying is just so, so rich.
