  1. So it seems as if, based on what people are saying here, under circumstances largely out of his control Alberts made and followed through on a tough and unpopular decision that ended up proving ultimately to be very beneficial for the athletics department? And some people are mad about it? Like if you were a big-time UNO football or wrestling head I completely get being upset, but otherwise I'm having a hard time understanding how this is supposed to be a bad thing or reason for concern.

  2. A lot of outsiders/national media people seem to be painting Alberts as some meathead old-boys-club guy who isn't competent because he said dumb stuff on College Football Live almost 15 years ago. Seems to be ignoring 12 years as a good AD at a Division I school but hey I don't think we should waste too much time on what they think if they're going to insist on interpreting everything our program does uncharitably.

  3. I would also argue that Adrian's raw numbers are a lot better if he's throwing to Quincy Enunwa, Kenny Bell, and Jordan Westerkamp and handing off to Rex and Ameer. I think he's probably our best QB since TMart if not back to Ganz or Zac Taylor.

Whats stopping a wealthy donor from guaranteeing a player stays?. Simple deal- player gets x amount in monthly appearance fees in return for staying put. Or they could do the Hunter Biden scheme and buy an awful "painting: from the player at an insane price x every month. In return, the player stays put.

If a wealthy donor wanted to do this and felt it was worth their investment, either from a marketing or "help the program" perspective, it's entirely within their right. That's how free-market capitalism works.

Tim Beck had a very creative run game. Any of us that watched his offense can agree on that. We went from that to someone who despised running the ball and had three running plays- that were rarely run well. What some may have a legit issue with was Becks play calling. Sometimes he would stray wildly from something that was consistently getting us yards. With as good as Becks run game was- his play action passing game should have been much better than it was. Personally I was a fan of it.

I remember the 2013 UCLA game when we ran the same toss-sweep four times in a row. I don't think not calling what was working was his problem.

Yeah, that’s first year Randy Gregory level of sacks - 10.5. Closest was Khalil with 7 in ‘18.

Edit: Wow. Checking out the team rushing stats from 2010-2014 where we roughly averaged 3100 yards. To 2300, to 2200, to 1300 yards from ‘15-17. To Frost who has brought it up to 2500, 2400, 1600 in a 8 game season. Makes me want to throw up

I don't think we appreciated how good those Beck offenses were in the rushing department. Say what you will about him but he knew how to design a run game.

Osborne recently said it looks like we have the players to compete with anyone. So if we only win half or less of our games whats the excuse? Are you going to say Osborne doesnt know what winning talent looks like? He said it is up to the coaches what they get out of that talent.

If we look like we have talent to compete with anyone and then we play badly, I will be a lot more critical of Frost. To this point it hasn't happened. I think Osborne would agree that the talent hasn't been there (as he's was talking about this upcoming season in that quote and not previous seasons).

Thank you for inventing my hypothetical response and then getting mad at it, though. That gave me a chuckle!

This isn't towards you, but this is a theme I want to address.  It has to stop yall.

In the past 3 years, who you think been calling timeouts, handle the game management, control the play calling, wants fair catches on kickoffs (like a scared b!^@h), fires an OC, hires a new ST collaboration/coordinator/group, doesn't blitz (like a scared b!^@h), doesn't trust to run the ball with the young backs (like a scared b!^@h), see's snaps from the center mess up drives, calls out opponents coach for "clapping", says "this was our best practice", rolls out a lame WR group (Falck, Liewer, Warner???), feeds Wandale the ball too much (to retain him?? to please him?? A little 5'6" guy??),  and puts stress on the QB to win or lose (Throw, Run, Scramble, Make a Play.... Oh and gt the ball to Wandale if you can)..... Who you think shuffles Quarterbacks, and is in charge of a team that fumbles a lot, throws INTs....  and penalties, and red zone failures, a kickoff kicker problem, a punter problem... on and on and on....??? And everybody been redshirting for the "future"....for like 3 years.

I am so tired of hearing about the enormous mountains that need to be climbed as we go into year 4 because of "the past guys, and Riley".  It's a football game.  Riley was here only 3 years dawg.  Get over it.  Accountability doesn't point fingers at 2015 or 2016 or whatever.  And if there was a MIC I would drop that s#!t right here lol.

I agree, why don't our coaches just solve all the team's problems by magically getting good players, calling perfect plays, and not being b!^@hes

Is that so different from Nebraska's over the same stretch?  9 top 25 finishes.  4 top 15 finishes.  We have finished 1st in our division 7 times in that span.  We won 1 of them and many feel 2 others should have (Texas and Oklahoma games).

My point is the doom and gloom crowd can't see the big picture.  It's very normal for teams to go through long stretches trying to find the right leadership.  It very difficult to do.  See Tennessee, Texas, Florida State, USC, etc...

If Frost ends up not being the guy to lead Nebraska back to glory, someone else will eventually.  Again, I truly believe Frost will be the guy if our leadership gives him the time to get there.

I generally do agree with the point you're making about our fan support keeping our program's floor high and that the doom-and-gloom crowd isn't able to see the big picture, but I think we are at a disadvantage over a place like pre-Saban Alabama or current Texas because both those schools can throw a stone out their window and hit a dozen four-stars while we're located in the middle of Nebraska. It is a lot harder for NU to be good than those school; even when we were in the 80s and 90s it was because we found inefficiencies to exploit like S&C and the option. I'm not saying it can't happen again but just going "Alabama did it, so we can, too" doesn't track with me because it's always been harder for Nebraska to be good than other elite programs that have an easier time recruiting.

I've been a fan as long as most anyone on this board, and I'm also of the opinion that if we get blown out by Oklahoma and lose to Illinois, Sparty or Northwestern, the stands are going to be pretty lean for the rest of the home schedule.

I was at the Iowa game a few years ago where 1/4 to 1/3 of the stadium were Hawkeye fans. That could be up to half - looking a lot like Notre Dame's stadium when we invaded - if we have a losing record heading into that game.

And if that happens, I'd say the sellout streak is toast next year.

I mean ... OK, sure, if the team ends up being late-Riley dumpster fire bad like what you're describing a few years ago then people might peace out when the weather gets cold. But I don't think that's the reasonable expectation right now and if the team is even average this year Husker fans are coming out in droves to watch the games in person.

real sell outs and full stadiums are in jeopardy this season.

too many losses will send fans packing, other things to do on Saturday afternoons, golf, kids soccer, etc.

this is Frost's make it or break it season, fans are getting anxious, as we know.

No, they're not. Our fanbase, which wanted to see football games so badly last year during a pandemic it tried to blow up our conference, hasn't seen a game in person in 18 months. Memorial is going to be packed to the gills this year.

LMAO who are these dudes. Do you guys even like Nebraska? Or do you just like getting performatively mad about Nebraska?

  12. I think we would all agree the recruiting has not been where we probably need it this year. Some factors that caused that were reasonably within Frost's control (being 12-20), some factors weren't (not having in-person visits for a year-and-a-half, in-state kids wanting to leave the state). It's unfortunate, but I tend to not think it's that big of a deal as this was always probably going to be a weak class for us because of the pandemic, this staff has shown it can recruit well, and recruiting ratings are wildly out of whack this year with the lack of in-person scouting/camps.

But bottom line, a lot of the extraneous stuff we're getting concerned about is moot. The recruiting and AD concerns go away if we just win some games and show progress this year. If we don't win some games then Frost is probably coaching for his job next year and we're probably starting over anyway. At this point, everything more or less boils down to the team improving on the field in 2022. If we win, the recruits will come back and the AD won't have to consider a change. If we don't, I think people will really start doubting the efficacy of Frost's vision at that point and he's probably sunk either way.

To me it looks more like gone into a tailspin. I'm used to losing recruiting battles but this year with the top instate players going elsewhere, legacies going elsewhere and all of the players we have been in on but lost it is looking pretty grim. Hard to sell you vision when you are 12-20.

Not being able to leverage our best recruiting tactic until a month ago because of a once-in-a-generation pandemic also has something to do with that.
