  1. godam, why does Paul Johnson keep getting brought up as if his stupid option offense was even anything close to what Nebraska used to do?  It just like bringing up a damn Dodge Neon and comparing it to a Supra because they both have front bumpers.   Starting to piss me off.   Go watch an old  Husker game and please tell me if it looks anything at all like that stupid crap Johnson was running.

  2. I expect the NU D to play tough but will also be slower on the back end, and ultimately out -schemed.

I expect the NU Oline to be completely outclassed by the Sooner D line,  Martinez will barely make enough explosive plays to cover his disastrous ones, while our RBs and WR will not have any advantage in speed whatsoever vs. the OU LB and DB.  I expect OU to jump a lateral screen for a pick 6. OU 45  NU 17.

  3. I think some folks who care about NU football, outside the football organization, but who have power need to conduct exit interview with Frost and ask, what impediments exist here in the athletic organization that didnt exist at Oregon or UCF.  In other words, how can we disengage/eliminate unnecessary actors, beurocracies, etc here in the program so that a coach can be successful?

The truth is, very little good can come from this game.  If NU wins big - no one will care or be impressed at all.  If NU struggles, which - given their history under Frost - is entirely possible, it is yet another stain on the program.

All is not lost, though.  There is a scenario where some good can be gained from this game.  If NU gets out to a big lead, back-ups can play.  In particular, back-up QBs.  Even more ideal, NU will race to a big lead in the first half, and Smothers/Haarberg can get some snaps with other first team players.  I say that knowing that "ideal" scenarios are quite rare for Nebraska, these days.

The Illinois loss is going to be a dark cloud that will linger for at least a month.  No one will be impressed if NU beats Fordham and Buffalo (and we all know Buffalo won't be a 'gimmee').  I have absolutely no hope NU is going to beat OU.  That means we will have to wait for the game at Michigan State for a chance for a win that that may actually feel like an accomplishment.  And, we can't assume anything in that game, either.

    What a mess....

I think it is just a positive thing that the Rust Belt is allowing the Corn Belt to have home games this year.

  5. Can coaches enter the transfer portal too?  That would be cool.

What if you could go to work and tell your boss you were entering the transfer portal.

Or maybe go home and tell your wife, hey honey, I am going to enter the transfer portal!

  6. Offensively, I see young receivers getting better, one young QB who is getting better, but who we should have at slot or wing back.  I see a Jr. QB going sideways in the throwing game but running better than last year.  I see an O line struggling.  I see a tight end getting better.  I see game planning with an overall lack of respect for or understanding of a rushing attack.  I see very little effective play action pass.  I see too much zone dive, not enough QB under center (hey the Browns do it.)

Defensively I see improvement on the D Line, in the OLBs , Bootle and CTB.  I see an occasional big break in coverage and playing a little late/ soft.

The D is playing against 70+85 snaps a game and mostly keeping folks in the 20's not bad.

  7. You are just at that point where you throw the young guys out there and make them grow up quick.  Practice their a$$ off. Full contact 1st team Vs. 1st team.

Somebody's gotta want to make a play.  Somebody's gotta want to restart the tradition.

  8. These developments have provided clarity for me on several issues.  First the Big 10 is not a good fit for Nebraska culturally, economically, academically.  And we should be looking long term to leave and rejoin some iteration of the Big 12.  Most of the Big 10 states and schools are Blue states politically with different economies from ours, no regard for the economy of Lincoln, or our lack of an NFL team to help support businesses.

But before our football team leaves, we need to kick their teeth in for a year or two.  And then invite them to Lincoln to see what 5 NC trophies look like when they are all lined up.

I didn't hear Michael Wilbon talking smack when Tom Osborne was beating the hell out of Penn St. or when Zac Taylor knocked off Chad Henne.

Talk about finally throwing a bone.  I have never understood how it could be right that the NCAA organization and universities can make millions off the backs of guys who get room and board and a college degree many of them will never use.

I am not talking about the 80% who never make the NFL.  I am talking about the 20% who make the University 80% of its football proceeds.  Those guys should be getting what they are worth.

Late in the season in the midst of a brutal 5 game stretch, the Huskers play back to back games against Iowa and Wisconsin on the road. Which game, to you, would a win mean more for the direction of the program?

11/14 @ Iowa: Stanley is gone, and Iowa loses a bunch of guys from last year’s team that eeked out a win in Lincoln. Iowa has won 5 games in a row dating back to 2015 in this series.

11/21 @ Wisconsin: They bring back Jack Coan but lose Jonathan Taylor. Wisconsin has won 7 in a row in this series, and Nebraska has only won 1 time EVER in Madison- 1966. Wisconsin has been to 4 of the last 6 B1G Championship games.

I don't think you can pick one or the other at this point.  We are in a position where we need to break out and beat both of them to get some recruiting momentum.  True breakout season.  You win and the cred starts to come back.

Washington, Robinson and mills in the backfield.  You have noa and spielman as the wideouts. We could fake Washington one way and give it to Robinson the other way!!

Okay, I'm being sarcastic but we do have some great playmakers.  I feel like we should line up Robinson more at running back.

    The diamond formation is awesome!
