  1. Must be able to run and pass somewhat balanced. More run on average. Be effective executing in the red zone. There are a lot of suggestions that aren't meeting those criteria. As with a Frost dismissal, we'd better have credible and competent upgrades. I think they've been doing their due diligence both Trev and Scott together for the OC and all the positions.  If there's going to be sweeping changes, there'd better be good ones!

I think we could take a look at Warren Ruggiero. I think it would bring in some fresh concepts without having to go too far from what we have as a foundation.

The more I'm watching this, slow mesh, the more I'm liking it. Certainly interesting!  Lots of experience there with Ruggiero. I like the fact that he hasn't moved around from different places a lot.

If Frost could pull this off it would be incredible. Don't think Grimes makes a move for Nebraska, think he could be in line for a P5 HC job soon. If they could find the next Grimes that would be ideal. Get a guy who has roots in OL development, as I think that's Frost's weakness.

Indeed! With a strong running game that offense could be potent here I think. OL development is key. What do you think about Roderick? Their philosophies are pretty aligned.

What if I told you we run the ball 57% of the time, average 4.7 yds per rushing attempt, and utilize a spread option scheme?

I don't think Frost needs to adjust his offensive philosophy much. I would just like to see us go back to the first few years where we were a little more multiple and had some I-formation in the playbook. An extra blocking back could have gotten us out of a few jams this year. As much as everyone dogged on Tim Beck, that was a fun playbook and decent scheme. It's also a spread/power scheme that works in the B1G. Id like to see us close to that again. Honestly that playbook with Frost's play calling ability and play setup would be money.

I don't think there needs to be a huge adjustment. He could incorporate many of the things he's been doing.

  5. How about an unspecified/unsystematic scheme featuring near 50% run and pass each. Similar to Chris Petersen's offense. I'd like a powerful downhill running game and a offensive line to back it up that's physical. Throw in some option with spread. Not as elaborate to coach yet effectively executed.

Frosts comments about the ST coach really defies logic. Did I miss some context with that statement?

That's not the way I heard it listening to it. To me, Scott was simply being generous.

Dawson seems to be doing great with the linebackers. There's been aspects of the special teams that have improved. He wants to first determine the offensive coordinator as that is integral to everything else. There are different combinations that could evolve out of the change dependent upon who's hired, how the pieces come together. There could have co-special teams coaches really. Personally, a dedicated special teams coach makes the most sense.

The most accurate answer is that he doesn't know. Obviously he values Dawson and wants him here. How he contributes is yet to be determined beyond coaching linebackers.

I wonder how long this has been in the works, I mean I can't believe firing 4 of your guys is taken lightly no matter what the record has been. So that A: tells me that they have been working on this for a while and believe they have some serious upgrades in the bag and B: That Frost is going to have to 180 everything that he has done for the last 6 years as head coach, which is also not taken lightly and tells me that Trev is committed to making this thing work so BIG TIME COACHES are coming to Lincoln.

should be fun.  Maybe we steal O'Brien or land Herman. maybe pete carrol comes in as oc  or maybe all 3 oh look at me I am getting a giddy.

I think that's right. Don't think it has to do a 180 though. I'm sensing we're going to have some solid hires.

So I’m finding this more strange all the time. What assistants wants to come here for quite possibly only one year?  Will they get contract terms, as far as length,  comparable with Frost’s?

Is it a timing strategy on Albert’s part-to get Frost out as cheaply as possible?  Or do they   ( Frost /Alberts) have an OC in mind and they had to make a play to seal the deal?

What are the chances that replacing an entire offensive staff with most likely a QB that’s not even on the team right now, will be successful?

    so many questions.

My speculation is, that some of the pieces are nearly put together. The alternates could surface relatively quick. There's more revenue made available for assistants.

The only part I like about the move is Frost fired his friends with two games left in the season.   That's savage af, as the kids say.

Is he actually being forced to hand the keys of the offense over to someone else or is it just going to be Frost's offense with different assistants?

Could work.  Could be Diaco 2: Electric Boogaloo.

Frost is deserving of a lot of credit for his willingness. From the Big 10 adjusting to us to, us adjusting. It simply wasn't working well enough. This takes some pressure off the team so they can better focus instead of being distracted. It sends a message to recruits. Where others have failed here much due to their reluctance, Scott is demonstrating some flexibility. With every challenge, there's opportunity!

  10. Congrats to both Frost and Alberts. It demonstrates Scott accepts that it's necessary to make changes and is willing to do what is required to put games in the win column. And, Trev for exercising creativity to work through it.

I'm anticipating that there will be considerable adjustments to the offensive scheme. The overall philosophy with the alternate coaches will reflect a more effective means of execution. It just wasn't working well enough.

The main reservation I had was Scott's reluctance for adaptation. One have to ask oneself what is getting in the way of being successful and do away with it. He can keep many of things he's done and use his creativeness to put together something that works much better here in the Big 10. It's a good start anyway. Trev Alberts is doing everything he can to help make success possible. If Scott does likewise, that's good. Real good.

I'm cautiously optimistic, even a little excited!

The fact the avg margin of defeat in 2017 was 21 with one of those losses by 4 to Northern Illinois and the avg margin now is 6 against away tougher schedule. So there is improvement should we won against Illinois yes and maybe Purdue or Minnesota. But we have improved.

Should've won at least two out of three of those. We need to be scoring around 35 points. Those games should have been won by one score or more. The scheme needs to be adjusted so that it transitions better to the red zone, ETC.

  12. Doesn't transition well to the red zone IMO. It's built around chunk plays where smaller chunks are needing to be incorporated in. Not enough effective, reliable running. The tight ends aren't utilized enough. Then you throw in a dysfunctional kicking game and special teams play...Field position is frequently an issue. It'd be nice if we had a better return threat. Coupled with the line play, the scheme also exposes the quarterbacks.
