Frost and Austin haven't been very friendly and have gotten into it a couple times. I know of 2 events at the country club and obviously after one of the games earlier this year. No clue on who Frost is thinking for a replacement. Honestly if you want to keep a trend of "Nebraska guys" John Garrison is a better OL coach than Greg Austin.

    Lol did it involve booze

There's a ton of talk about what should happen. What do you guys think actually will happen? I don't think anything ends up happening and everyone is back.

Scott Frost will be back. The changes will be marginal. I voted Martinez returning though I'm around 50/50 on that.

It's not the scheme, not the assistants, not the head couch...It's all about everyone doing just a little bit better. We're so close. ;)

At this point keep him. Because otherwise we are competing against USC, LSU, likely Florida, likely Florida State, maybe Miami, and the dominoes that come from those hirings. All more attractive jobs than what a 5 straight losing season Nebraska team is.

He and everyone preaches they are so close and this was a 5 year rebuilding job from the beginning. Well next year put your money where your mouth is, because with next years so called easier schedule and it being 5 years, we should win 7-9 games with no excuses.

Also whatever, we are at least 5 years away from even realistically thinking of being a 9-10 win program again, so what's the point in a new coach next year. I've waited 25 years since we've been relevant, I can wait one more year for an entirely new rebuild.

That's sort of where I'm at too. IF there there is a change, it had better be a darned good one.

If we're close, amending his contract down to one year shouldn't be an issue. Then we can extend once results have been demonstrated! That's not going to happen though. At any rate, if we can't win at least 7 games next season in year five with the schedule, we'd better be moving on.

We have one of the most prolific offenses in the B1G between the 20's.....Play calling and scheme does nothing to assist the RB's nor does Held.  There are numerous factors to our struggling.  OL play is one for sure, but a good coach(s) can find a way to scheme to assist the discrepancies.

We get IN the red zone then don't capitalize. This is an issue over and over again. Our field goal kicking doesn't help. Might as well go for it. But then we don't have a reliable running game where we can move in smaller chunks consistently enough. And not enough incorporation of the tight ends. He needs to find a way to adjust his scheme that meshes these two aspects. Get to the well and then be able to bucket!

  5. Pros: Innovative coach, ties to Nebraska, demonstrates that we are willing to give coaches an honest opportunity

Cons: Offensive scheme that doesn't perform well enough in the Big 10, reluctance to make necessary changes and adapt

What Scott needs to do is apply his creativity with making adjustments. How willing is he to do that? He needs to make a thorough evaluation across the board. What concerns me is that changes, if much of any, will be marginal. That's a legitimate issue. If he were to do these things in my opinion, it'd help considerably to putting the team's performances over the top. The reluctance is my main concern.

Coach Osborne spelled it out real clear starting at 55 seconds.

people say that the bar has been lowered, we have no bars and no standards anymore.

There are underlying issues. And issues that are obvious. We've beaten Fordham, Buffalo and Northwestern.

If we fire Austin/Verdu/ and maybe Held/Lubick + new QB transfer + special teams coordinator are you guys content with keeping Frost? At least accepting of it.

We don't know if he does or doesn't. That's the dilemma. My best guess is that Scott Frost will be retained and that not many changes to our staff and scheme will be made. We don't have much to suggest otherwise.

If Frost stays, you give him a contract extension to be able to bring in a competent staff and hire a home run OC.  If he gets the extension, say another 3 years I'd reach out to Chadwell or Napier.  no extension?  Tom Herman

With no extension it'd be hard to get anyone here.

Also, If Frost changes staff you automatically get another year with the "new staff, new scheme" excuse

AM leaves-You get the excuse of developing another QB

Lost a lot on defense...another year to "rebuild"

Keeping Frost in 2022 guarantees he stays until 2023.  Unless  he brings back entire staff. Then maybe he just gets 2022...

Do away with his current contract replacing it with a 1 year contract. There's an adjustment to scheme and upgrades to the staff. Then we can discuss extensions at the conclusion of the season and proceed depending upon how that works out.

    Giggle giggle

  9. What about those of us who want to run the ball 50-60% of the time to as little as 40% occasionally?

I don't think that's something Mike Leach is willing to do and I don't think it'd work that well in the Big 10 anyway. We already have a scheme that has it's vulnerabilities to working well enough here.

My son made me take him to game so I had a different perspective today.  It didn’t change what I’ve been thinking all along.  It actually made it worse for me.

    Offense

Manning and Toure are wide open off the route break constantly.  Their QB holds the ball so long that the zones pick the receivers up.  The QB also never takes the on the zone read play.  If he’s not going to ever keep it they should run the play.

I wish I understood the RB rotation.

    Defense

Our pass rush is weak.  We might have the best group of LBs in the conference in my opinion.

    Special teams

    Kicking….wow

    General

AM doesn’t make the plays.  1/11 on 3rd down is embarrassing.  It was all big plays today.

This team is a consistent QB from 7-8 wins.   AM needs to move on and not come back next year.

"I wish I understood the RB rotation."

Morrison wasn't available today due to a family issue. Johnson was limited late do to injury thus the cause for Stepp coming in.

My God, move on from him. If the guy is that hurt, bench him. It's time to try other QB's.

At this point I wouldn't be surprised if next weeks injury update we hear Martinez can't walk on his ankle and can't talk yet he will still start.

    Lol I wouldn't be surprised.

The guy's been running around for his life for much of four years being exposed by inferior line performances and a scheme that exposes him. Personally, I admire the guy. And no doubt has he made some critical errors. Our issues just aren't simply Adrian Martinez though.

I learned that this team has more motivation than any 3-7 team I've ever seen. Proud they haven't checked out.

My knowledge has been reinforced that:

    1. Scott Frost is not the man for Nebraska. He proves time and time again that he can be outcoached regardless of which team has momentum and no matter how many mistakes an opposing side makes.

    2. I will have to continue to explain to people why being "close enough" and "almost there" is a load of crap, especially when you drop games to Illinois, Minnesota, and Purdue.

    3. There is no such thing as moral victories.

    4. Frost needs to go.

I'm almost certain Frost is going to be retained.

That’s my interpretation too, but I think timing seems off with this theory.  Like they announce the home run hire and then “oh and by the way HCSF won’t be back.”   Both the fire and the hire in the same press release would be pretty unprecedented.

The announcement of being retained makes the most sense. Followed by the bye week. This accomplishes two things. The coaches recruiting won't be compromised by the not knowing if Scott will be remaining. Plus, there's the added benefit of a potential firing being a distraction to the team for the remainder of the season.

Unless of course and interim is being installed.

Scott's seemed pretty happy/confident this week, almost as though of being relieved. But that doesn't explain just two days ago they said no decision had been made. At least a final one anyway.

  15. I think it's in one's interest to take a hard look at themselves. What we are doing. Where are the critics wrong. Where might the critics be right. Emotions set aside accepting hard truths. How can I make this better. Demonstrate it. And then ask for help. Doing those things together will usually encourage good things happening.

There's nothing wrong with fans holding their coach accountable! It works that way too right? Like teammates do. There's been improvement, yes. But more is needed! Much more.

Suppose the guy, the coach of your team doesn't talk so much about changes and does them. You see clearly that he's making an effort. And then, comes to you sincerely and says it's going to be a dog fight. It's going to take everything we've got and then some. We need you there, every inch of the way through this game, this season.

What the 12'th person does is help get the ball rolling and helps maintain it. Momentum. And pushes back against momentum of the opponents. What many people are saying maybe, is that I'm tired mentally. I'm willing to do pushing alongside you and this script is making it very difficult without some demonstration on your part. If the reward for participation is disappointments over and over again with few rewards, it should come as no surprise when people disengage. The fan.

That's where I'm at. I want evidence that the coach can fix this. Witness it happening. I think that these issues are fixable. That you CAN do it. I'm just not sure how willing you are to do the things I'm viewing as necessary. As a fan, I'm here to support you. You've got to do your part too. If I see reluctance and more excuses, that's going to be problematic.
