2018 Colorado @ Nebraska One Hour - YouTube

Watched the first 7:22 of this video and continually asked myself, "Why didn't this work out?" The first drive ends in a fumble, but before that every single play was positive yardage. Even the fumbled play got the first down. But it also made me think of the next head coach and I just don't see, unless it's a mega name, any coach coming in and generating that amount of buzz and excitement that we all experienced in 2018. Why and how I stumbled upon this video today? I don't know. Wish I hadn't because it took me back to the days of having high hopes and excitement for Nebraska football.

I also stopped watching at the 10:11 mark as I knew what direction the next 4 years went.

I don't think Frost ever truly committed to winning here. The guy USED TO BE a great coach. I believe his personal commitment to excellence fluctuated between 50%-80% while here.

Scott had the potential - the abilities, to be successful here. But for some reason (fear of failure, fear of success, imposter's syndrome -- a mix of these?) he never committed - he didn't follow through.

We were at what was supposed to be his first game.  He had the gates on fire thing.  He had the big intro and the macho look and all that.

Then we had the drenching downpour and the party like atmosphere in the stands as some took off and tried to ring out their shirts.  Then came the lightening.  Then we left.

Then his career here went pretty much the same direction as all that happened that night at Memorial Stadium.

Talk about an omen of what was to come

While I agree I think that is more of a fan's take than a current player who has had 3 coaches and we also have a lot of new transfers especially on offense. Defense should hopefully relay the message...Tannor, Nelson, Newsome, Reimer

Iowa's D will need a TD for them to win this game. This game is the most winable BIG game we've had all season.

  4. Iowa’s best offensive player is out. If Iowa wins this game, they play in the BIG Championship and although they’ll be huge underdogs, at least they’d get their shot.

If this team of ours can’t get up for this game and bring their best selves on Friday, it will be very disappointing. This is a tremendous opportunity to play spoiler against a beatable team that has owned our asses for seven straight years.

If we get Fickell, Im not going to squeal as loudly as I would with Urban, but its still going to be a pretty decent squeal. Enough to turn heads.

If we get Fickell, I’m going to switch to Huskers volleyball in the fall.

If Trev went after Fickell, I would imagine the lower relative salary requirement would have been a big factor, which would show us how uncommitted the suits are to returning this program to top-notch status.

I don't know how much (at all???) you can believe former DB Bryan Wilson, but he is saying that Trev has been putting out lowball offers ($4M-$6M) and it has turned off a lot of candidates.  Trev has since upped an offer to Rhule that is close to $8M.

This also jives with Mav saying about Trev is being cheap with assistants Rhule was asking for.

    Here is the twitter thread.

Wouldn't surprise me at all, and I've said it before so I say it again - TA was the wrong hire as AD.

I appreciate the enthusiasm, but Kiffin is not our guy. He is too fickle he hasn't been in any program longer than three years, and he seems to leave a bad taste everywhere he has been. Let's say your dream comes true and it is Kiffin. A year from now Saban retires, 99.9% chance Kiffin bolts if offered the Bama job, and we're back on this bus all over again and behind the 8-ball with an end of the season vacancy. What's more- every talented player Kiffin wants off our squad will be gone, who wouldn't follow their head coach to Bama? That would essentially be a death sentence for our program.

That's a lot of what-if's and assumptions you've offered - I mean, if he's gets the support he needs here, the money he wants, and things slowly start trending the right way - maybe he stays. Urban is my #1 pick anyway, but yes, Kiffin is #2.

I agree that it doesn't seem like Meyer wants to come here. His commentary during the second half of whatever that game was, when he talked about how this is a rebuild process and the time it would take, didn't seem like a guy interested in the job. It seemed like a dispassionate outsider describing something not involving him.

I'd believe anything at this point, though. Urban, Deion, Liepold, whatever. They need to do whatever it takes to make this the correct hire.

Urban at $15 million per year for four-ish/five-ish years to reestablish the reputation, then handing it off to a good assistant (like the Ryan Day/Ohio State handoff) would be almost more than we could hope for.

Urban for 4-5 years would be an absolute dream scenario. It's been 20 years of :bang - we're due.

Then I would say that the majority of the fan base had too high of expectations on who NU could actually hire.

I guess we'll find out in about a week.

Meyer or Kiffin would be acceptable hires, and I honestly think it will be one of these two.

And you bring up fair concerns/fears.  Thanks for that article.  I would keep an open mind on Mendenhall, but I also think I would prefer Kleiman or Leipold, based on their experiences in the Big Ten area of the country.

Hiring any of those three would be a MASSIVE disappointment to the majority of our fan base.

Iowa is rumored to be without their tight end LaPorta (who leads team in receiving) also without their starting FB. This at least can't hurt our chances though I don't know the players mindset right now given all that is going on.

LaPorta is very good, so if true this is big news as Iowa doesn't have many playmakers on offense.

    Not so fun facts:

    During that timeframe we are:

    4-4 vs. Illinois

    3-5 vs. Minnesota

    3-5 vs. Purdue

    3-5 vs. Northwestern

    0-7 vs. Wisconsin

    0-6 vs. Ohio State

    0-3 vs. Michigan

    0-2 vs. Oklahoma

    0-2 vs. Colorado

    0-1 vs. Georgia Southern

    0-1 vs. Troy

    0-1 vs. BYU

    0-1 vs. Miami (FL)

    Current Losing Streaks:

    9 Wisconsin

    7 Ohio State

    6 Texas

    4 Minnesota

    4 Florida State

    4 Texas Tech

    3 Illinois

    3 Michigan

    3 Oklahoma

3 USC (never beat in 5 games)

So at present, we're OWNED by Iowa, Wisconsin, and Ohio State - with Michigan and Minnesota getting close to joining that list.  My goodness that's depressing.
