Hmm... sounds like same things we excused SF for. (yes, I'm guilty of that) I'm not guilty however of referring to Aranda as an elite HC nor was I guilty of calling Frost that.

Baylor won the game anyway. That’s what clutch teams do. Baylor overcame an entire half of crappy play to win against a 5-2 team. When was the last time NU did that?

FYI: Baylor beating Kansas 28-23 with just over five minutes left. KU was down by 28-3 at half, comeback led by backup QB (starter still hurt)

Aranda should have kicked a field goal, but Kansas is a decent team (5-2 record). A lot of what I’m seeing is poor execution by Baylor. They lost a lot of experience from last year, so it does not surprise me.

    Frost beat Auburn.

But he played no one with a pulse in the regular season. The Big 12 may not be the best conference, but it is miles better than the AAC. Baylor played elite offenses every week and their defense held its own for the most part.

Scott Frost won big in his second season at UCF also, what's your point?

Aranda did it at the Power 5 level. The Big 12 was stacked with good teams last year and he ended up winning it. Baylor played an 11-1 Okie State team in their conference title game and won. Frost played nobody at UCF during the regular season.

and this year, he's 3-3 with 2 of his wins coming over G5 teams while losing the powerhouse programs like WV & BYU... yet to you he's elite. Hmm..... 3-3 equates to elite, someone's pushing "their" agenda as much as they accuse others as pushing theirs.. What's the old saying "pot calling the kettle black", is that right?

How many Baylor coaches have won a conference title there in just their second season? He also won the Sugar Bowl.

    And Aranda is "elite"?

He won a conference title in his second year at BAYLOR. Aranda would have by far the best resume of any coach NU has hired in the last 20 years. What has Mickey proven other than he can beat Indiana and Rutgers (two terrible teams). The only two teams with a pulse he’s played, he’s lost.

Why should the HC be a "great" offensive or defensive mind? They need to be a leader of the program which includes both the offense and defense. If we keep Mickey as HC, it's not the end of the world because he's shown he can squeeze juice from a lemon that appeared to be done for the year.

So “squeezing juice” is a lucky win over Rutgers and a win over a terrible Indiana team?

Umm... I personally am excited at the prospect of MJ being our next head coach and him being a former player is way down the list:

    1. It's obvious that both player's and coach's tend to gravitate to him.

    2. He's forthright with his beliefs and answers

    3. He's a highly experienced coach with an awesome family of experienced members to lean on.

    4. He's shown he can and will make tough decisions.

    5. He's engaging both to the media and the fanbase but most importantly, to the young men that enter his office.

    6. He's one of the best recruiters we've had since TO's time.

    7. He's tough both mentally and physically.

    8. He isn't afraid to speak the truth, to put forth a plan and hold everyone (including himself) accountable to it.

    9. He is a minority coach and that, here at Nebraska especially, is important because he is the first!

    10. He's a former player that understands a winning culture.

Now.. tell me again why "I" like MJ?

I’m not saying you specifically. I’m just talking about most of the Mickey supporters. From the fans to the administration, a good chunk of NU supporters seem to think that what happened 30 years ago has any relevance today. A program’s history will not carry it after decades of mediocrity. It is time to make an elite hire, not a mediocre one.

We all know you are the color guard for standard and that standard is anti MJ but you chose to ignore truths too. Many on here look at how the players have responded to coach MJ's leadership and believe as I do, that had MJ been the head coach from the season's start the record would be much improved. In believing that and knowing what lies ahead I also believe had MJ been the HC from the start of the season (which mind you, would be his first year as HC) the team would likely be playing for 8 wins. So, I refer back to part 2 of my earlier question as evidence of and proof for fans to reasonably be excited about MJ. There will be a few haters (You obviously fit in here) but by a large amount most fans would feel excited and hopeful. MJ has done a fabulous job since being handed the reigns in a tumultuous situation. Hence the reason I think Trev has a very difficult decision ahead. I truly believe if MJ wins 5 games total while reflecting back on the NW and GS losses that a speculation exists MJ would have won as HC then and well.... simply stated, the program could and has done much worse then MJ in choosing previous HC's.

If Mickey weren’t a player from the 90s, his support would decrease exponentially. A good chunk of the fans can’t let go of the 90s, as seen with Frost getting over 4 years despite never reaching a bowl game.

  10. Let me get this straight. According to some of the fans, Mickey going 6-6 means he should keep the job? So a .500 record with this cupcake schedule is now good enough for NU football? How the mighty have fallen. Hopefully Trev doesn’t have such low standards.

  11. This movie was only a few weeks old the last time NU won it all. Urban is the only one that could change this harsh fact. None of the names mentioned by Sipple will come close to doing it. Oddly enough, this movie is an accurate reflection of NU football's current state. A large majority of NU fans were Rose, Scott Frost was Jack, and NU football is the Titanic. It seemed like the perfect relationship. The fans got a player from the 90s, meaning that they would worship him and Frosty could get away with bare-minimum expectations. Then, the disaster known as one-score losses occurred on a frequent basis. Frosty tried to get on the piece of wood with the fans, but Georgia Southern was occupying one-half of it. This forced the fans to, through many tears and excuses, let Frosty go into the darkness of a $15 million buyout. The program is currently sinking because the Frosty love fest lasted a year longer than it should have. Trev could be the Carpathia (rescue ship) or he could end up being the iceberg if he hires Mickey on top of deciding to keep Frosty after a 3-9 season. Don't let Mickey be the new Jack, Trev.

We had a whole thread on that case when it went down in 2018:

Urban Meyer knew about domestic abuse going on in his shop, and he failed to report it. He violated university policy and violated his contract. It wasn't the same as the atrocities at Penn State, Baylor, or Michigan State, but there is a commonality: he knew something and failed to report it. That is what happened in those other cases, when reporting could have prevented additional harm being done.

You are either ignorant to what actually happened in this case, or worse, you do know and you just don't care. Given your insane rants in this thread over the past few days, I am going with the latter. It appears that you are not only willing to excuse inappropriate and/or abusive behavior, but you are actually condoning it as well. In addition to other things we have seen about Meyer since this case unfolded, it is clear that he is a horrible person.

Based on your rationalization of his behavior, your obvious shilling for Urban Meyer, your whataboutism with other coaches, and your various disgusting comments over the past few days, I can only conclude that you are also a horrible person and should never ever be involved in any hiring or personnel decisions.

So I’m terrible for acknowledging reality that football is a dirty game and the elite programs are typically dirty? Is that not true? Sports, like anything else that involves money, usually is filled with shady business. If you don’t like my opinions, you have the freedom to scroll past my comments and not subject yourself to them since they seem to make you miserable. Like you, I have the freedom to voice my opinion. Anyone who believes sports are clean is living in an alternate reality.

I don't want Urban, and I am of the mind that Trev doesn't want the program to deal with the headache that would come with hiring him either.

I too would get a headache from the sight of him hoisting the CFP trophy wearing NU gear. I’d think WW3 was about to start. It’s been so long since NU has won anything that I wouldn’t know what to do. For one, it would mean that NU stopped hiring nice guys and two, it would mean that NU stopped hiring people from the 90s and three, it would mean that NU has put the moral victory days behind them. It truly would feel like the apocalypse was upon us. But we can’t have that I guess because Urban doesn’t sing church hymns to the team and doesn’t peek into his peers’ personal lives.

According to Smith's wife, Urban was told about the abuse and did nothing. I'm not ok with that and I think it's kind of telling that you are still making excuses for Urban.

Heck, you even made an excuse for Paterno just now. That seems, disgusting.

What I was saying is that Urban has nothing but allegations to work with. They could be right or wrong. Regarding Paterno, I’m not defending him. If anything, I’m further indicting him. I’m saying that Sandusky had alluded to his pedophile behavior to Paterno and he still did nothing about it until a national uproar occurred.

  15. 17 minutes ago, LennynSquiggy said:

This sounds like a bunch of excuses to me. Joe Paterno turned a blind eye to Sandusky's pedophilia, was that "ok" because Paterno wasnt Sandusky's father? If not, then how do we use that excuse for Urban's behavior?

Paterno and Sandusky were good buddies. It’s been reported that Sandsuky told Paterno that he had been having suggestive interactions with children. Urban may not have known for sure if the incident really happened or not and didn’t want to ruin Smith’s life over it. I don’t expect Urban to be  constantly staring through the window of the Smith family’s living room and hit the window yelling “stop” before hands are about to be thrown.

I can somewhat understand the frustration, but Urban was not supposed to be the assistant’s parent either. To play devil’s advocate, Urban could have viewed the situation as it not being any of his business and simply assumed the situation would sort itself out. Not saying it’s right, but that’s how a lot of people think. The incident doesn’t even register on the scale of college football scandals either. How many times would you bet a similar situation has happened at other programs. I’d say it probably happens quite a bit, but it doesn’t always come to light.

Is there any team in the 10-15 range 'every year' in recent history that isn't in a regional recruiting hotbed?

Urban would have a 75% winning percentage with a school even if they are located in Serbia. He won a lot of games with UTAH and BOWLING GREEN. Not to mention his three natties. That’s how good of a coach he is, but in the minds of the holier than thou posters, NU shouldn’t even bother talking to the second best college football coach in the last 20 years because one of his assistants beat his wife in his private life. With it happening in private, Urban was not present at all. Urban is not a marriage counselor. I don’t know if he would come here or not, but it is worth a try.

you know he was born and raised in neb right? I think that if he were to come here he would stay

A lot of people on here can’t stop talking about Urban’s character flaws, but they think Kiffin is fine when he is probably just as bad. I would much rather have Urban if NU is going to hire a douche.
