  1. Aranda and Petersen both have won conference titles, unlike Campbell. He’s just not a good big game coach. And before another person says “well, he’s at Iowa State,” how many conference titles were Washington and Baylor winning before Petersen and Aranda showed up? The Campbell sexuals are already making excuses for their man. Some coaches have the clutch gene, but Campbell instead has the choke gene. Simply go look at all the different ways he’s found to lose to Iowa during his tenure at ISU. The sad thing is that ISU was probably the better team in at least 4 of those games. He also has a bunch of one-score loses, so I guess that’s why some on this board love him. Guess he brings nostalgia. This choke artist would be a disaster of a hire.

    What a lazy argument

It will be the darkest day in the history of NU football if Campbell even sets foot inside Memorial Stadium, much less if he’s named head coach. Trev will have lowered NU’s standards to the very bottom of college football. It will be a day which lives in infamy. What I’m saying is that such a catastrophic event would be NU’s Pearl Harbor. Trev would be the Japanese in this scenario. We all have high hopes of getting a quality coach and this would be Trev flying in and bombing all of our hopes and dreams for this program. He would be making us accept IOWA STATE’s coach, which is completely unacceptable. On top of that, his record is mediocre outside of one year. His reputation as AD would be beyond repair. Such a hire would set NU back 20 more years.

I'm hearing a lot of buzz about this Campbell guy in the past few hours.  Could be something to it?

I don’t want Mike Riley 2.0 as the next coach. What was Riley’s record in his last year at Oregon State? 5-7, which Campbell is on pace for this year. The arguments for Campbell on here are very similar to the ones for Riley years ago. “Winning at Oregon State is hard.” Now it’s “winning at Iowa State is hard.”

  4. If Trev were smart, he would make a pitch to Urban that he could go out on a positive note by turning NU around. Realistically, I think he would actually consider it. You can’t convince that the guy does not care what people think about him. The most recent impression people have of him is him flopping in the NFL and a girl grinding on him at a bar. I’m sure he doesn’t like that. Trev needs to stop messing around and capitalize on his golden opportunity. It really doesn’t get any easier.

I never said Campbell is my first choice either but clearly no one here has been to Ames, IA....good luck winning football games there. He has done a great job IMO

There’s a lot of trees there. Other than that, I’ve got nothing. I’m bummed there’s no mountains. Ames must be “going green” with all the trees. I respect the initiative.

So that #1 class are all freshman then. You need at least a few of those types of classes back to back

Prior to this year, A&M had at least a top ten recruiting class the previous five years. Jimbo just can’t thrive in a league where actual men play. Going from Wake Forest to Alabama and Georgia being the toughest opponents on the schedule is quite the leap.

In 125 years of football at Iowa St Campbell has 3/5 most winnings season there...in 6 years of being there.

Just because the bar is low at Iowa State does not mean Campbell should get significant credit. Last year proved that his 2020 season was a fluke. In regular years, he’s an 8-win coach at best.

What makes you think that Klieman is any better at recruiting than Campbell?

Klieman is 5-1. Campbell is 3-4. Campbell’s best season came during the COVID year while Klieman is doing well in a year where there isn’t a global pandemic. Every team ISU faced in 2020 was riddled with injuries while ISU’s key players stayed relatively healthy. I can look past Klieman’s recruiting at K-State because he manages to actually maximize the talent he has, unlike Campbell. Plus, Manhattan is a dump so I don’t expect him to recruit well there.

  9. Does anyone here think Campbell can recruit at an elite level at all? From what I’ve read he refuses to go after five star players at Iowa State because he feels they are toxic. That is not how any program gets to an elite level. Deion would recruit at an elite level, but I’m not sure about his coaching ability. Kiffin or Klieman are the best choices in my opinion.

    How did he hurt you?

If Campbell is hired, a lot of the people on this board and the fan base in general will have high expectations. He will let them down and the fans will want to fire him by year 2. I’ve seen this movie before. Campbell has a lot of similarities to Mike Riley. Both coached at programs that had zero expectations. It’s kind of hard to fail at a place where there is zero expectations.

It's aTm. They haven't won anything since like the 30's

They have excellent NIL support, though. They payed $30 million for their last recruiting class, which was the number one class. You would think he would be able to win something with that.

Joesph is 2-2 and you probably want to keep him as HC. You are delusional stuck in the 90s.

I have been vocal about not wanting Mickey. I will say that if Campbell is the top target, then NU might as well hire Mickey. Both would be mediocre. Trev needs to be fired in this scenario since he would be accepting mediocrity.

I just watched the 60 minutes with Deion and I’ll say this about him..

    1. He’s a WINNER through and through. Everything about him is hardwired and conditioned for success. No way would you find him drunk at g25 after a game.
    2. If he can get 5 star recruits to freaking Jackson St.. he can get them to come to Nebraska.
    3. He’d be a shock hire for sure…but if we ever have a hope of getting back to the top.. we need a shock.

Deion would be Jimbo Fisher 2.0. Great recruiter, but can’t coach at all.

His stock is dropping, I know that much. He's probably looking for a way out of Ames and I'm sure Trev is well-aware of his interest.

He probably regrets not going to Oklahoma last year. I heard that he turned them down.

  15. I didn’t think it could get worse than Frost, but it just might with Campbell. With Frost, I knew every game outside of FCS opponents was likely a loss. With Campbell, the expectations will be high just for him to disappoint. The guy has lost to Louisiana Lafayette and Northern Iowa in his time at Iowa State. Does that sound elite to any of you? Also, he has proven over and over that he can’t win the big game as seen in the Big 12 Championship. His team choked constantly during that game. I’d rather have no expectations as opposed to being let down all the time with Campbell.

He won 9 games 3x at Toledo, Once at ISU, has beaten everyone in the Big 12, beat several teams ranked in the top 10, and won coach of the year in the Big 12 a few times. You're being disingenuous here

And no trophies to show for it. Campbell is a con-man if I’ve ever seen one.
