  1. As this saga comes to a close, I'd like to say a few things to the members of Husker Board. For starters, congratulations on the Matt Rhule hire, everyone seems excited about it so kudos to you for getting your guy. As a fan of college football, the sport is better when Nebraska is competing for championships so I'm rooting for you and for him. More importantly, I am not Sonny Dykes nor am I his agent and the reality is actually a little bit more complicated. I am an SMU student who had to see Sonny begin to rebuild the program and then bail for our biggest rival. To be clear, I'm not bitter about Sonny leaving SMU as he deserved a bigger program but I am bitter about him going to TCU. He whispered sweet nothings into our ear while he was getting ready to do it with the maid in the closet. It was disrespectful. I do think that he's a really good coach and he did revive the program so I want him to succeed just not with our biggest rival. After TCU beat SMU, I thought that Sonny becoming a candidate for an even bigger job wasn't out of the question if I could get the ball rolling and if they kept winning. Not only were you the first program that I deemed big enough to lure Sonny but part of me actually thought that the hire made sense so I began to push Sonny to Nebraska through message boards (like this), twitter, emails to insiders, etc. (I still kinda think it would've made sense) Obviously it didn't work but this thread has almost 5k views so that's definitely something. I know you probably think this is crazy but you should know that I stole this idea from IU basketball fans who set message boards ablaze with Billy Donovan to Bloomington talk in 2017. It wasn't really going to happen but Donovan had to come out and publicly say that he wasn't taking the IU job. They were able to get the rumors to reach the man himself which is crazy and inspiring. I was hoping for something similar here and thought that maybe you'd hire him if the dominos fell correctly. Well, they didn't and he'll probably get a big extension in Ft. Worth and I'll be sad forever. As a parting gift, I request that you begin to push Garrett Riley as your OC. He's very good so I also want him gone. Thank you all and good night.
  2. Anyone have any new information? I haven't heard anything so I'm kinda growing restless. Obviously it's been a pretty impressive season for Dykes thus far which is super enticing. It's also been pretty lackluster for Matt Campbell, and Dave Aranda, among others, which makes me question them. I've been out on Campbell for forever and still think that would be a sad hire for us. I would kill for Kiffin but it seems like he's either heading to Auburn or staying put which I think is a mistake but it is what it is. Honestly, what happened with Mark Stoops? I think someone mentioned that idea and I was in for it but he just signed an extension so that seems over. I keep thinking Dykes, Gus Malzahn, Kyle Whittingham, and those types of guys but is it worth taking a look at Clark Lea over at Vandy?
  3. For what it's worth, Coach Dykes is an offensive guy but hasn't called the plays in years. I think he did at Cal but I know at SMU he had Rhett Lashlee calling them and then Garrett Riley after Lashlee left for Miami. He brought Riley to TCU to call them there and would presumably bring him to Lincoln. Frankly, I don't think Riley will take a HC job until it's an upper tier P5 program and I don't think he's a big enough name for that yet which is why I think he'd come with Sonny.
  4. I agree but I just wonder how long of a leash they're going to give Leonhard. If Leipold remains at Kansas, he can always be in their back pocket but if not, they gotta move quickly.
  5. I'm not one for conspiracy theories but this is something else. I'm just reporting on what I've heard from my friend and what I've been thinking but I do appreciate your creativity. Other than what I've said, I haven't seen much on Dykes coming to Lincoln to be honest. Any chance you could pass along a link from one of these local and national beat writers talking about Sonny? Even if they are contractually obligated to write about him, I'd be interested in reading what they have to say.
  6. Although I don't think that's true, I like the idea of Leipold a lot more than Campbell. But, I do wonder if Wisconsin moved on from Chryst knowing that this was the coaching cycle to go get Leipold. Despite some ties to us, he's more tied to Wisconsin after being born and raised there, playing ball at UW-Whitewater, and then coaching at Whitewater and Madison so that makes our bid more challenging.
  7. Hey guys, I don't have a big update but just wanted to circle back to this after what transpired over the weekend. Obviously the coaching search is ongoing, and they haven't zeroed in on one candidate (from what I've heard at least), but Dykes is turning heads. He is clearly not afraid to swing and punch bigger, better, and more skilled teams in the mouth since he's done it everywhere he's gone. To me, that means he wouldn't be afraid to go into The Big House, Horseshoe, Happy Valley, etc which fires me up. Furthermore, his continuity of success is impressive which, in my opinion, is where we got into trouble with Frost. No doubt Frost had an unbelievable year at UCF but that's all it was. One year at one program. We had no way of knowing if it was him or his coordinators propping him up. After seeing Heupel's success at Tennessee, it feels like the latter. I thought the same thing about Harbaugh at Michigan until last year. Before Michigan, his defense was the reason for his success, but that unit was coached by Vic Fangio, one of the greatest defensive minds ever. At both SMU and TCU, Dykes has turned the team around quickly, beat bigger opponents, and maintained an explosive offense despite not having the same OC the entire time. That continuity impresses me. I hope you all give Dykes some serious thought because I think it would be a great hire for us.
  8. An old friend of mine is somewhat involved in the athletic department and has passed along this info. Coach Sonny Dykes of TCU is a name that is being discussed. They believe that he is a strong offensive mind, relatively young, and has demonstrated an ability to greatly improve a program quickly. The coaching search is ongoing so they are continuing to monitor how he does in Fort Worth but early signs are good. The previous information is from my friend, the following is just speculation so take it with a grain of salt. My friend gave me the impression that he's anticipating other programs to go after him too if he continues to win games with that roster but thinks we would win that negotiation. Fort what it's worth, his real allegiance is to Texas Tech but he turned that job down once before. He wants to win a national title and I don't think it can be done at TCU. Also, it's an open secret that he's expressed discontent with the BIG 12 for letting in less prestigious programs so he would probably appreciate the B1G's commitment to remaining as competitive as possible.
