If you can't see the cognitive dissonance in wanting a coach to fail while still 'supporting the team by watching them,' then I can't help you. You're effectively claiming to be their friend while stabbing them in the back.

Regardless, you're done with this conversation in this thread. So is everyone else. We're not going to debate Rhule's chances of success or swoon over Deion Sanders in this thread. This thread is about coaching news/changes, and the direction you've taken it goes beyond the intended scope, so we're going to break it out separately. You're welcome to contribute in there.

If you can't understand that hopes and prayers ain't supporting a program I don't know what to tell you.

Who made that argument? I certainly didn't.

You couldn't have proved my point any better. This is perhaps the most cognitively dissonant thing I've read in awhile, and that's saying something.

    You certainly did.

So the millions of people that tuned in to watch Floyd Mayweather lose every fight didn't support Floyd just because they wanted him to lose? Those people made him a billionaire that's supporting buddy.

One of these teams is not like the others…. Again, maybe Deion may turn out to be a good coach. However, he will not enjoy the same talent gap he had while out recruiting his peers at Jackson State.

Campbell out recruited JSU and still got beat that's why I posted that. I should've fed that one to you but I ran outta clean spoons.

Now show the transfer portal rankings and the previous classes. Doing only the high school/JUCO transfers is only half the equation. Especially since the class you showed isn’t even on campus.

Yeah the class I showed definitely isn't from 2022 and they're definitely not on campus. This year definitely isn't the first year of the transfer portal. :laughpound

So you can’t name a single player in conference? What it means is that Deion was good about recruiting highly ranked players when his competition is not as successful at attracting those players. Therefore with better talent (on paper), Deion was excellent at winning against less talented teams.

I realize that you are trolling and that’s fine. Hopefully Deion does well, but he’s got quite a challenge ahead of him now that some of his peers will have better facilities and arguably equal talent.

Naming players has literally zero to do with this conversation. Stop trying to deflect.

    Where is the talent gap?

They'd rather be right about Rhule and/or the program than actually support the program.

How is hoping 19-20 Rhule does good supporting the program? You can't support the program with thoughts and prayers.

I can want Rhule to fail harder than Frost and still watch every game which supports the program unlike the thoughts and prayers Rhule turns things around.

Again I ask, can you name 2-3 high quality players from the conference that don’t have the last name Sanders or Hunter?

What does this have to do with you or the other guy knowing zero about the SWAC conference but can say Deion won because of a talent gap? Look up the recruiting class and then report back.

fyi Travis hunter has only played the last 6 games.

No, I think he’ll recruit well in Colorado.  But he’s not the only one that recruits well.  And not the only one o the Pac12/10/8 that recruits well.  And he’s proven zero in terms of coaching.  We’ll see how his staff shakes out and how they X & O.  There are quality teams and coaches in the PAC.  I’m saying pump the brakes on anointing him and let him actually show he knows how to coach.  Right now he’s gotten by habit way better talent.  He won’t have that advantage now.

I'm not anointing anything. All I'm saying is Deion Sanders will I have zero issue recruiting and he will easily out recruit Washington.

I willing to bet you watched zero JSU games. I'm also willing to bet you watched zero SWAC games. I will also bet you have no idea what the class rankings looked like. You are in no place to say Deion only won because of better talent.

I assume you're saying Deion has proven nothing because he didn't do it at a p5. Has Matt Rhule proved anything? He only has 3 years at a p5 with a losing,19-20, record. The last time I filled out an application it asked how much experience do you have? 0-3, 3-5, 5-10, or 10+

That was also during a coaching transition.  DoBoer will have them top 50 (currently has them top 30) and I believe Colorado will also be top 50.  I don't think Deion will be dramatically better than Washington or Oregon in terms of team talent.  Marginally better than Washington? Probably.  Marginally better than Oregon? Probably not.

I think y'all are underestimating the celebrity and star power of Deion Sanders. Recruiting will be the least of his problems.

He will either jump to another school as soon as he can or just ends up quitting once his kids are done.

Matt rhule has a way higher chance of leaving Nebraska. Look at Matt's history he is a job hopper. He signs long contract extensions and then leaves. In 2015 he signed an extension to be at temple until 2021, he left 18 months later. In Sept 2019 he signed an extension to be at Baylor until 2027. He left Baylor less than 4 months after signing that extension.

And you know this because……(just curious :)

Well he has never been at a job for more than 4 years and the Huskers have paid every single coach since Osborne to leave. The huskers are number 1 in the nation when it comes to severance pay. Lincoln is the perfect place for a coach that's looking to cash out real quick. :)

Rhule didn’t have to take this job. He got a huge but out from Carolina. That he WANTED to take the job is exciting because here is a guy who WANTS to rebuild our program! I’m excited about this hire and look forward to what he can accomplish here. GBR!

He took this job because he knows it's a 95% chance it will also end with a multimillion dollar buyout.
