  1. So, why exactly is that picture offensive to some women? It's obviously a joke, and I really don't think anyone with a brain could believe that Republicans are superior to Democrats because of this picture. As already mentioned, there's plenty of swamp donkey Republicans and hottie Democrats out there.

So in a picture that we can probably all agree is just a joke, why would people get offended? "Oh no, Carrie Prejean is more attractive than Rosie O'Donnell, Republicans are jerks and I'm offended!!!"

    ?

Everything should be allowed to be made fun of. A lot of things people do or say will offend at least one person somewhere. Jokes are often meant to be a little offensive because it makes them more funny. It's more taboo and adds shock value.

BTW, we all know the original picture with female politicians isn't realistic anyway. Women should be barefoot and pregnant while making us sandwiches in the kitchen.

Uh no, they should be in heels and lingerie while making us sandwiches. Just sayin'......

  2. History has shown that raising taxes on the rich doesn't work. Why doesn't it work? The rich are the ones in most cases that add and provide the jobs for everyone else. By raising their taxes, it gives them less incentive and less funds to add jobs. Almost 50% of the workers here in the U.S. (47% to be exact) paid no federal income tax in 2009. How in the heck can you lower the taxes for those workers when they don't pay any?

My aunt used to be a VP at North American Jaguar before she retired, and the percentage of taxes that she paid {net/gross} were less than mine.

Also I've seen reports that many corporations haven't paid their fair share if any at all. And of course we got those who set up offices in the Caymans so they don't have too.

But I digress, I guess some here would rather see a Husker jersey on saggy man boobs Dick Cheney.

  3. Texas had their way with the rest of the Big 12 lite teams, they (Missouri, KU, KS , Baylor and IS) were just happy to have a BCS conference to play in, they let Texas have everything they wanted, to keep them and OU in it....i guess everyone has their "price"....the little 12 will only last 2-3 years before the next raid takes place, it is inevitable. :koolaid2:

You left one S outta Texas.

  4. They oughta focus on beating teams like Toledo and Colorado State before they start beating USC and Oregon.

Agreed, we do need to take care of those teams and ya'll can take care of Iowa State and then perhaps in a few years we can meet up once again, would be fun....

Pardon me for not finishing, what I meant to say was "They oughta focus on beating teams like Toledo and Colorado State AND THEN winning more than 3 games, before they start beating USC and Oregon.

I understood what you meant and point proven, just like ya'll need to be able to take on ISU and Texas Tech before assuming victory in Columbus, Ann Arbor, and Happy Valley and then perhaps one day, for old times sakes it would be fun for a Rose Bowl matchup...

Only problem for you and sCUm is that Nebraska will have played in the Rose Bowl on several occasions before the Puffs even get a sniff at it. But then again you can always watch it on tv.

Hawkins giving anymore ten win predictions this year?

  5. The whole "the Big Ten is slow and prodding" thing isn't as concrete as you would think. We have a few teams like that - most notably, Wisconsin - but a lot of teams are moving to the spread and speed. Look how Ohio State did against Oregon, which was touted as the ultimate speed team that Ohio State wouldn't be able to keep up with. But Terrelle Pryor was recruiter for his athleticism, and he sure showed it in the Rose Bowl by scrambling quite impressively a few times.

Currently, I would break it down like this:

:star :star :star :star :star Teams:

    Ohio State, Penn State

    :star :star :star :star Teams:

    Iowa, Nebraska, Wisconsin

    :star :star :star Teams:

Purdue, M*ch*gan, Michigan State, Minnesota, Northwestern

    :star :star Teams:

    Indiana, Illinois

EDIT: I will say, however, that Iowa is probably going to be more successful this season than Penn State (Ohio State @ Iowa is probably going to be the best conference game this year), but Iowa as a program still doesn't have all that Penn State does. The stars are a mix of current power with the program's intangibles.

Excuse me, but hasn't Iowa OWNED Penn State in recent years? Myself I'm hesitant to rank Nebraska with the Big Ten until a couple of seasons go by.

  6. Very well, very well. Nebraska is a quality addition to the conference. I imagine, in due time, there will be all the hate & spittle rivalries that sports fans are used to. I'm curious to see which teams Nebraska aligns with amiably and those it develops real beef with. The only difference is, outside of our territory, everyone in the Big Ten will have your back. Nebraska is one of us.

As far as "having a beef" with, I'm sure Iowa will top that list. If you've noticed some of the threads already this is gonna be pretty heated. I also think PSU will fall under here, mainly due to the past history between us. Like that '82 game and the fact that PSU fans have this insane belief that the Nits could hang with Nebraska back in '94.

  7. The Minnesota v Penn State "rivalry" was manufactured. The Gophs were the first matchup for PSU when they joined the conference and the teams made a trophy game out of it, most MN fans (and probably PSU fans) couldn't care less about this one. On the other hand the other three trophy games Minnesota has are strictly organic and are all awesome and long standing trophy games.

Same goes for the MSU-PSU "rivalry", the Land Grant trophy?

  8. Just imagine the letdown if nothing comes of this and we stay in the Big12? There has been nothing official and we are all acting like it is a done deal. Suicide watch 2010.

Yep, just go take a look at the "Tiger" board..... P.S. Classy fans don't need to talk SMACK!!

Please, you can be a top notch trash talker and still have "class". I get sick of these whiny types who don't like smack talkin' cause they're no good at it.

  9. Just a hunch, but what if the talk about Texass and the Pac 10 is a ruse? And what would the likely hood be that Texass would resurrect the Southwest conference. Maybe adding the Kansas schools and possibly TCU and or Houston?

  10. 100% agree. Nuclear energy is the ONLY viable energy alternative. We need a multi-billion dollar effort in this area NOW.

I would agree, but we have a serious NIBY attitude in this country. This I think is a key roadblock to the advancement of nuclear power in America.

  11. I find Islam to be much like the pre Reformation days of the Catholic Church. The great commision commands everyone to go out and bring all non-belivers to God. Until the Reformation this would involve all sorts of crusades, murder, forced conversions etc. I dont bring that up to defend or excuse what Islam has done, but I find it a good point of reference, that maybe they need a strong leader to shake them up and bring them into a more modern way.

Not a good point of reference. The "crusaders" were guided by the talking heads of their time, not their holy book. Their holy book condones no violence but rather condemns it.

On the other hand, the holy book of Islam not only condones violence, but requires it.

    A big difference.

And Samson said, With the jawbone of an ass, heaps upon heaps, with the jaw of an ass have I slain a thousand men. Judges 15:15-16

Samson was one of the good guys . . . right?

No question the guy was a warrior. But you can't find anywhere in the Christian holy book where followers are allowed violence or oppression against anyone, much less commanded to do it. It's just not there.

    http://www.evilbible.com/Slavery.htm

    No violence or oppression huh?

  12. What "freedom" do they think they are supporting by taking away the ability to act in whatever ways people see fit? You want tolerance? Look in a mirror.

Agreed. This is the typical hypocrisy you see from the crowd that preaches "be tolerant and inclusive" and pounds their chest about it.

That crowd sure is tolerant and inclusive, as long as you believe exactly how they do.

And all religions are guilty of this. It's one of the biggest problems with organized religion - if there is a God, far too often his words are twisted for the purposes of evil men, and the world suffers.

Agreed. However, I don't see this so much as a problem with religion as a whole, but a mentality. My first issue is with the far left wing in the US, preaching tolerance. But speak out about a "hot button issue" such as homosexuality or illegal immigration, and they label you biggot or a racist. Second, is the problem we have with Islamic facists, those who will happily kill you for being an "infidel." I don't want to include all Muslims in this discussion, because supposedly Islam is not a religion of evil. But the Muslims who do not speak up and denounce this facist mentality are in essence being apathetic and allowing it.

Like Husker X said, I don't know any Christian or Jew who has threatened to kill a cartoonist because of a drawing about their diety, and then wants to hide behind the veil of tolerance.

I couldn't find a Muslim who shot abortion doctors because he is "pro-life".

  13. A friend of mine says she saw Osborne board a plane to Lincoln from Chicago. Wasn't clear if it was yesterday or today. The Chicago area is the Big 10 conference HQ. Now, there's any number of other reasons Osborne could've been there. He might well have been elsewhere and connecting in Chicago. He could've been in Chicago for some other reason. So I make no claim this means something, but it is a fact that he was on a Chicago-Lincoln flight this week.

You sure you didn't get this from some salt water aquarium guy?
