I read the entire thread. The guy is a bone head. One peice of advice if I may....when you get guys like that on a board, ignore them. They are usually just trying to provoke someone or get under someones skin. He got under yours. Like someone once told me, if you if argue with an idiot, pretty soon, noone can tell who is who. (dont take that like I just called you an idiot...only words that should ring in your ears next time you deal with a bone head like that)

  3. To lead the nation in total defense while competing in the cat-quick SEC is remarkable.

Really not a thing in there you can argue about, especially the above comment. It sounds, according to the LSU players, he's running very similiar defense when he was here.

He also has great athletes down there, something NU obviously didn't have.

So in conclusion, ATHLETES WIN GAMES NOT THE COACHES

Does anyone here ever stop to wonder if a good coach can make decent atheletes appear to be much better while a poor coach can make them appear to be incompetent? Can you empirically demonstrate the level of atheleticism other than the performances that they put on under the direction of a coach? Did we have horrible athletes the year before Pelini showed up and then lose them all after he was gone?

I'm not saying that I think that what you're saying is wrong, but it sure seems narrow to say that it's one or the other. If you can't tell me that a great coach can't make a huge difference between major Div I programs, then I ask you, why are they there? If you averaged out the "athleticism" (and how do we measure that?) across the top 15 or even 25 schools' defenses, then I would bet that they'll be pretty close. It's the schemes, strategies, and abilities to adjust to and predict the other teams' strategies and tactics and making sure that the players are in the right positions to stop those plays. You think that Missouri had guys wide open in the endzone (with no one even close) because our guys are less athletic? Sure, grixby fell down but he was at least THERE. When our dbacks are there and just doing poorly, yeah, that's on them. But when there is no one there, when our linebackers are out of position and have been neutralized, that's on the coach for picking the wrong scheme. We we keep doing the same things and failing, that's on the coach.

It's like mind & body. Sure, players have to be smart to make those quick decisions, read the QB's eyes, and all of that, but it's the coach who has to make sure that they're in a place that they can actually do that...

Oh well... I'm sure that this is something that we all agree on, but saying that it's the players not the coaches is silly. It's a strong interplay of the two and I think that our D has enough talent to really benefit from a great coach.

I think your comments were right on the money Glendower! While I know it would have never worked because Bo P wanted the Head Coaching job, I would have liked to had Bill as the head and Bo as the D coord. I just don't think Cosgrove is getting done.

  5. He's a lot like Bill Callahan. It's a jeckyl and hyde team. You never know exactly what you're going to get. You're either going to get their best or their worst. When they're at their best, they can beat anyone. When they're at their worst, they couldn't beat their way out of a wet paper bag. Quite frankly, I'd bet with the Big 12 North he's either the first or second coach to go.

While I do believe he is a bit hit and miss...I give him more credit then most do on this post. The no huddle offense implemented last year against us was brilliant.

  6. im extremely worried...

i dont care how many fauts a team has, they always seem to do good against us....

I am bit nervous as well. It bothers me that we have not dominated anyone in the Big XII. What does ease my nerves a bit is the amount of rush yards Mizzou gives up combined with BJax setting himself apart as a fantastic back.

  7. I've heard a lot of remarks that this is the biggest game of Callahan's carreer, and it got me thinking.

Yes this is a HUGE game, by far the most important of our season to date. It puts us in control of the North, which leads to the Championship game, which just may lead to a BCS bowl (ok, I know that is reaching, but we've proven we can play with Texas, and that is why they play the games, upsets happen).

But, all the games from here on out are important. Because we need to win them all to show improvement from last year. And yes, we are still in the stage of needing to show improvement, one season at a time.

However, I was thinking. If Callahan loses this game, is his career over at NU? I mean, that is what a "biggest game of your career" means if you are not playing for all the marbles. I think not. I think we are showing improvement offensively each and every year under the Callahan era. That means, to me, despite the results of this game, I would still let him coach out his contract.

Biggest game of KG's career - that just may be. Defense is where I have not seen improvement. I mean, yes, we have a lot of injuries and are banged up on D. But, to me, we are not seeing the steady improvement with the regime that we have seen in the offense. Also, we are playing a pretty good offensive team that we should still be able to shut down. That's why I think I'm labeling this "The biggest game of Cosgrove's Career".

Huge game yes...not for Cally but Cosgrove. I have seen the improvement in the offense but not the D. Yes, I am aware of how banged up the D is, yes, I know we led in sacks LAST year but that aside, the D has not progressed at the same rate as the Offense. I am not a Cosgrove fan. GBR.

  8. For the past couple of seasons, I have bashed and trashed our choice of a coach. And everyone has told me I was wrong...this is the guy that will lead us back to the top of the college football world. Well after a 21-6 4th Quarter I now realize I was wrong about Coach. So to everyone on this site who ever told me I was wrong about my thoughts concerning Coach C, I was wrong, I'm sorry for not believing. I now realize that in 10-12 years Nebraska Football will be back at the top...not with a goal to win National Championships, but getting to the Big 12 title game. Thanks for setting me straight. Go Big Red and Coach C, take us to the Promised Land. :sarcasm:bang

Most, but not all ,of the posts on the board are of a mature nature. I dont think this is the board for you.

  9. I think we have higher standards and expectations because of the history of our program. When we win we seem to be back on track and BCS bound but when we lose or have a set back we gripe and moan. Realistically, we still need to improve in all phases of the game. We have the core of a very good coaching staff but perhaps in the end we will end up losing an assistant or two. Maybe sooner rather than later. Plus we still don't have the players yet to compete on a regular basis with a top 5 or top 10 team. Our starters are almost to the point where we can punch it out with top teams but we still don't have the depth to back them up. We celebrate when we get a win because we hope we are on the right track. But when we lose we realize just how far we still need to go.

Well stated. To add one furthur comment....Nebraska fans are lacking that one win where we dominate a decent opponent or follow up with a good showing the next week. When it does not happen, we feel let down because we thought we were back on the road to dominance. Then...the venting begins. I don't believe there are as many "bandwagon" fans as one might think....only frustrated Husker fans.

  10. The play calling wasn't great, but it wasn't terrible. Okie State started stopping the run better, so we turned to passing. Unfortunately we kinda went too far into mostly passing. But it wasn't bad enough to lose us the game by itself.

Our defense isn't that bad, they just played pretty bad today. I'll keep saying it as long as I have to...we're not a very good road team. And the reason for that is we're just not to the level yet where we can play consistently at the level needed to beat good teams. Despite what anyone would like to believe, Okie State is a good team who can play with anyone if they put it together like they did today.

We need another couple years of recruiting to get the players in the positions they need to be in. We're still working with pieces of Solich's recruiting failures. Just like Okie State, when we play up to our potential, we can play with nearly anyone (as we showed with Texas). On the road it's been very hard for us to do that, and we just lost it totally today.

It wasn't just the play calling, which wasn't as terrible as everyone is whining about anyway.

For the most part...Agree with all that EbylHusker has to say. One point of disagreement....despite how we looked against Texas on D....we are not a good defensive team. Part of the problem is injuries, part is talent...most is of the problem is Cosgoves predictable schemes.

  11. I'm beginning to think it's a sign. As much as some fans didn't like Pelini, letting Pelini walk was a huge mistake on Callahan's part.

Agree!!!!! Look at the stats!!!! Anyone tracking what Bo P has done at LSU? I understand wanting to surround yourself with those you know or those who are loyal but letting talent go....mistake.

  12. Where do I start? OSU was a better team team then most on this board gave them credit for (check the predictions post). The offense for the most part looked good although I believe the O line stil has alot of room for improvement....ALOT in the pass protection department!! Cosgrove....not sure what to think. Is it the players not executing or his defense. I think its both, however I tend to lean and overall think its his predictable schemes. To be honest...I have NEVER been a fan of his. Its really easy to look back and judge but lets be real....Pelini's D with less talent was better. Overall, I am still a fan of BC although I don't always believe he makes the best calls. Cosgrove...time to go. O line...improved but my patience is wearing thin. B Jax....STUD!!!! Glenn....STUD!!!! LuckY...made some good runs but still cant see the holes and falls down if the wind blows more than 5 mph or someone thinks about touching him....where are his YACs that B Jax gets? Yes, I know I am going to take some heat for this post. I only ask for fair honest feedback with facts...not some heated converstation with no basis.

  13. I am coming from Colorado for the CU game (Husker Fan not CU) and have not been to a game in a few years in Nebraska. I am looking for some help with where to tailgate. How far from the stadium? Restrooms/port-o-jons available?. Pay lots available game day? Advance purchace for parking? What is recommended? Thanks for any help.

    Thanks for the info.

  15. I would like to stick it to Notre Dame. I get tired of them squeeking by.... but, the media and polls love them and the not so mighty Quin. Although some of you would like to see an LSU matchup to stick it in Pelini's face, I believe he is a better Defensive Cord than Cosgrove.

  17. Okieland , I am not one to talk smack and offer an opinion with no facts but I would ask that we call it like it is....Nunn fumbled and if you check the stats.....you will see he has that tendancy. Your logic would sugest that there are no fumbles in football but only great plays. I do not wish to elevate this topic so that it becomes heated. I support BC and the call he made. I believe Nunn has had some great plays also...I am merely stating he fumbles frequently.

  18. Third and semi-short.....Texas stuffing our running game....Bill C made a great call. It was the exact call I was hoping for prior to the snap. Now, lets talk about Mr Fumble. I have been calling Nunn Mr Fumble for the last 2 years. Check the film if you don't believe me. Check the fumbles he has had that we got lucky and recovered. I have mixed feeling on Mr Fumble becuase he makes a few great plays every now and again but I am not sure if it negates his tendency to fumble all the time. Again, BC had the right call...wrong player.

  20. Marines are looking for tickets!!! When ever we are not deployed over seas, we try to go to the CU - Neb game which has been a tradition for many years. We fly or drive to the game no matter where we are stationed. This year we have dates also so things are really looking up.....if we can get tickets. Looking for 4 tickets at face value or slightly more.

  21. I was a bit puzzled at our lines as well as the performance of Lucky. I know KU has a good defense against the run but come on. Our O line did not create many holes and the ones they did, Lucky had trouble seeing or was indecisive about hitting them. I thougt Glenn performed much better. What was the trouble with our defense stopping KU's offense? They moved the ball at will. If not for the turnovers, this would have had a different outcome. Okay.....I am done venting. I am happy for the win.

  22. As a Husker native and fan for almost 40 years I was puzzled to see what happened tonight. I understand rebuilding years, coaching changes and the amount of time it takes to establish a change in a program. However, I am dissapointed in the outcome of the USC vs Neb game. I thought Bill Callahan came to win when I saw the fake punt in the first half but I was wrong. As the game wore on and I saw run play after run play.....it became obvious that Bill Callahan did not come to win but only try not to get beat badly. As a loyal supporter of Husker Nation for almost 40 years....I am a bit dissapointed.
