  1. I think Newby could be a fantastic back but I don't think he's strong enough yet to be a B1G running back. I think he has excellent balance and speed but lacks the physical running that were used to seeing from a small back like Abdullah. I think Adam Taylor will be the perfect backup for Abdullah next year. We need a back who can punish tacklers but yet fast enough to get through the holes. Cross is just a little too slow. If he's met at the line he doesn't have the momentum to plow for extra yards. I like cross if he can get to the second level and run people over but I think Adam might be more effective.

  2. The past two seasons all the gripe has been about our defense giving up huge yards and getting blown out vs the big boys. We didn't give up big yards and get blown out today. Our team fought to the very end and played pretty damn good football excluding the fumbles. The team showed a lot of heart today. We got punched in the mouth (5 times) and never gave up. We were in it to the 4th quarter. A few breaks go our way and it could of been a totally different outcome. How many times did we have them in 3rd and long and there receivers make miraculous catches. Football isn't always fair. The better team doesn't always come out on top. I'm just happy to see progress. I feel Bo has us trending in a very good direction. I couldn't say that last year. We should all be proud of our team today win or lose.

  3. Haven't watched BRW yet but maybe you should check out the highlights at the beginning of the thread or below and see if he looks different.

I don't know, it just doesn't look that impressive to me. He doesn't look explosive in the least. He looked good in the camps, strong first step, but in the game against extremely inferior competition, he doesn't jump off the page as an athlete. Again, it's hard to project a stand-up DE to a linebacker.

I admittedly only watched the first 5 minutes of the highlight film, but the first 16 tackles he made, he was COMPLETELY untouched. It's not like he was throwing OT out of the way and chasing players down. There are like 2 total plays where the first offensive player he touches is not the ball carrier. What happens when he comes to college and actually has people in front of him, it's going to be a new world and a steep learning curve.

I don't think he is a bad player, by any means, but I don't think he should be the "headliner" guy in a solid recruiting class, he is a middle-of-the-pack guy IMO.

I'm sorry but I absolutely disagree. He may be the most explosive d-linemen Bo has recruited besides Randy Gregory. Look at how fast he gets into the backfield. He just absolutely runs through blockers like they aren't even there. His combination of strength and speed is unbelievable. There's a reason his offer list is extremely long. I've been following recruiting for quite awhile and his film has me as excited as any of the prospects we've landed in the past.

  4. I think Taylor is just an introvert. Not many introverts play the qb position let alone college football. I think that's where his focus comes from. Often times introverts focus too much instead of just letting go. I think that is the case with Taylor. Love the kid because he reminds me so much of myself.

  5. The student section was able to pull it off a few years back. With the correct build up and momentum it could be a really great moment in Husker lore. If Penn State fans can do a white out why cant we do a black out? I totally get that the older fans don't grasp the concept of new fangled ideas such as this but all great traditions and special events have to start somewhere. Next I don't know why the word black-out keeps getting censored and it makes the thread look childish and for that I apologize. We are only 3 weeks out from kick off and for a movement of this magnitude to occur would take some serious dedication that clearly won't happen without everyone's full support. By the way I can't seem to drop down and use paragraphs, not sure if it's an issue with internet explorer or what but believe me when I say I'd love to be breaking up my posts into paragraphs.

  6. If you look in the Hail Varsity gallery you get a good look at the reason Brown and Suttles are off the team. Picture 38 or 39 is of Santos and there is a pretty impressive scar on his forehead.

I also noticed that. Couldn't have felt good wearing a helmet during 7v7.

  7. I had a dream last night that Nebraska was playing Stanford in the season opener instead of Wyoming. For some reason I couldn't watch it and was trying to avoid hearing information so I could watch it on DVR without knowing the outcome. It got leaked to me that it was 6-6 at the start of the 4th quarter.

I woke up before I could watch it, and I never found out who won. I was pissed.

So your saying the defense has a chance?

  8. When I was 19 I took a trip to Putnam county in northern Missouri to stay with some buddies at a friends lake house. It was a very rural and depressing place with it's only nice feature being Lake Thunderhead. The lake was just a few miles from the only town for miles Unionville. Unionville was a small rundown town with a convenience store and a local grocery store. My friends and I thought it would be fun to go mess around in town and look for young women to hit on. Except there wasn't any women, just cocky, small town teenagers. So we shot the sh#t with these kids until we started to get the memo that they didn't like us very much. So we left "Steve's Grocery and Fireworks" and started to head back to the lake. On the way back we cross paths at an intersection with the hicks from the grocery store. We are stopped at a 4 way and they are flying in their little honda civic. They decide to blow through the stop sign, pull their e-brake, and turn and smash into the back end of my poor 96 chevy corsica. 5 people hop out of their tiny car and my two buddies and I hop out of mine. As soon as we got out it was an instant brawl. They kicked our ass. My one friend ended up with his giant nose completely broken sideways, and my other friend had two black eyes, while I don't think I got hit once. Long story short cops show up ask if we want to press charges, we decline, car has minimal damage, shake hands with the dbags and then we all went home. All in all I hate the state of Missouri and hope I never have to go back to that place.

  9. I wonder if we see split time in the future between our qb's. Darlington looks brillant when running zone read & play-action. I think it's gonna be a tight race between Stanton and Darlington after Armstrong graduates. Both of them posses all the intangibles and leadership qualities that you would want at the qb position.

  10. The numbers speak for themselves. You find a way. I'm not saying this class won't end up being very good, but at the end of the day you have to expect more. You can't have your top prospects falling out in groups like this. You have to get Ballage on campus. Offering guys and getting them on campus are two different things. In the beginning the staff said it was ok and don't panic. Trust me, they're panicking a little bit now. Kids are committing much sooner and you can't drop the ball on that one weekend you rely so much on. Gameday isn't selling like it used to. Ill be the first to say, TJ and Fish are great recruiters, but Nebraska needs a closer and have to become more aggressive. I'm hoping for the best like the rest of you but things need to pick up. We have to get those elite players on campus.

Being more aggressive like offering more kids than any other school in the country? There have been a lot of recruits that have come out and said Neb is recruiting them the hardest. I don't know what you want. It's not like Lincoln is in a prime recruiting hotbed. And lets face it when you hear Nebraska you think cornfields.

  11. The inability to plant your ass on the ground and win the game rather than trying to look like a superstar and lose the game #anotherstupidtexasloss

Are you speaking of the Nunn fumble because that was a pretty bang-bang play. He caught it, turned, and then the defender put his helmet right on the ball and popped it out. This thread is bringing back some heart breaking losses. :(

  12. Believe Heard and A Green were 5 stars on select sites

My rule is the star count isn't official unless it comes from 247 or rivals. But, what does it really matter when we know he's a stud.

  13. Not one play but a series of plays @ VaTech in 2009. We had the ball in the redzone 1st and 10. Then proceeded to get called for penalty after penalty until we were out of field goal range. I think we had something like 3 false starts in a row and maybe a couple holding calls.
