    Agree. Cotton is a waste

  2. UNL has one of the RARE athletic departments that is profitable. Without Husker football, the whole department would be a drain like most other A.D's.

If we should cut football and westling at UNO because they are a drain on the taxpayers, we better start looking at cutting all sports at the highschool level.

I never knew that Husker Mens: Golf, Gymnastics, Swimming, Basketball, etc were turning profits.

Don't kid yourselves, this is all politics and the powers that be are scared of little UNO taking anything from Husker football.

  3. Regents to TO: So you want an addition to the stadium, how big a check do you need?

Regents to Trev: D1 football might compete with the Huskers. UNO would keep all the Omaha fans from driving to Lincoln. Maybe you should cut football.

  4. Did anyone else notice we don't play our final game the Friday after Thanksgiving? Thanksgiving in 2011 is 11/24. We play Iowa on 11/26.

    That I do not like.

I agree, hate to say it, but the friday game on national TV really put the Huskers on the map

  5. With the Big 10 & Pac 10 going to 12 members, and the SEC having 12 members, is all of this the start of college football playoffs.

Imagine if the Big 12 got back to 12 teams, so they could have a CCG. How hard would it be for the 4 conferences to have a 4 team, 3 game playoff?

Texas, with the easiest conference, might be getting the last laugh.

  6. I was asked by my good friend Bruce Feldman to compare Suh and Dorsey. Here is my take on whether or not Suh will be downgraded by NFL teams because Dorsey has failed to live up to his draft slot. (They were both coached by Bo Pelini)

    • "First of all, NFL teams don't put any stock into the Pelini argument. Everyone used to say the same thing about Jeff Tedford's quarterbacks. Now we have Aaron Rodgers as one of the best QBs in the league. Everyone used to say the same thing about Florida WRs. Now Percy Harvin is one of the best playmakers in football and Louis Murphy had a solid rookie year. Each player is different and is evaluated on their own ability. There are several distinct differences between Dorsey and Suh, including

    1. Body types: Totally different builds. Suh is a big, square body with minimal body fat. Dorsey is under 6-foot-2, fleshy and a little narrow for a DT.
    2. Durability: Several NFL teams had major concerns with Dorsey's leg. His lack of conditioning was also a concern.
    3. Versatility: Suh can play multiple spots in either the 3-4 or the 4-3. Dorsey is better suited as a 4-3 DT. He lacks the power of Suh to consistently 2-gap on run downs.
    4. Raw Power: Suh has incredible strength in his lower half and in his hands. Dorsey relied more on his initial quickness and technique.

There aren't sure things when it comes to the draft but I feel as comfortable with Suh as I have with any player to come out in the last 5 years.

NFL implements rule for playoffsComment Email Print Share By Adam Schefter

Before the playoffs kick off this weekend, the NFL implemented a temporary rule change that will prevent an instant replay of what happened earlier this season in the New York Giants-Philadelphia Eagles game.

From now on, time remaining on the game clock will be reviewable but will be limited to situations in which time is deemed to have expired or not expired prior to, during or after the last play of the first or second half, or of an overtime half, according to a memo that NFL commissioner Roger Goodell sent to the 32 teams.

The rule adjustment goes back to the Dec. 13 Giants-Eagles game. Just before halftime, Giants kick returner Domenik Hixon fumbled the football and Eagles linebacker Moise Fokou recovered, but the clock seemingly ran out. Replay evidence suggested there still was at least a second remaining, but replay rules did not permit the play to be reviewed.

As Goodell wrote in the memo: "At the conclusion of the first half, time will not be restored if the additional play would be a kickoff, but would be restored if a timing error takes away a significant opportunity for the offensive team to score. At the conclusion of the second half or an overtime half, time shall be restored to the game clock if:

    (a) It is a one-score game (eight points or less); and

    (B) The additional play would be a kickoff by either team or a snap from scrimmage by the team that is behind in the score. The game would not be extended to create an additional play by the team that is ahead.

For a review, the official time on the game clock will be superimposed on the video replay."

This adjustment will be in effect only through the conclusion of 2009 postseason games; the Competition Committee will review it this offseason and make a recommendation about whether it should be kept or abolished for future seasons.
