  1. I have actually thought the same thing. Sometimes I think that it might just be Grixby but Jones does the same thing. The only time he got an interception this year was when he was in the end zone and he wasnt running with the receiver. It does seem that is what they are taught. Either that or maybe they think that if they do look back the receiver will just outrun them and beat them, so they just wait for him to catch the ball and tackle him. I dont know though, I would love to know what the deal with that is.

  2. I couldnt agree more!! They really need to pick who their best four receivers are and play them. Whether it be Purify and Nunn or whoever. If you look at USC they play Jarret, Smith, and Turner the mojority of the time and then use Mccoy sparingly but effective. I know he is trying to make it so defenses dont key in on people, however it is still the same number of routes being run whether its peterson or purify in or nunn and swift. It just doesnt make much sense to me. I think us not having a threat at tight end hurts a ton, and wont be fully evident until we have one. I also dont understand why we dont throw more short arrow routes to hardy. that dude can flat out fly, instead we throw them to swift or phillips. It just makes no sense to me. With that said, I love Callahan and everybody else will too starting next year.

  3. I think that is the point of the post, or maybe i am just missing it. Next year with keller or maybe lee at quarterback we will have the talent, arm strength, experience, feet, and pocket presence all in keller. that is what i am hearing anyway. as for the defense, i most certainly think next years team could line up with boise st. or any other team in the nation. our offense will be spectacular and our defense will have a whole new look and mentality. i truly think they will come out next year with the swagger of the teams in the mid 90s.

  4. Ill admit that his play calling was bad on the last possession, and i have no idea what his intent even was there. However I think it is important to remember that he does only have two years of recruiting under his belt. That makes his first full class of recruits SOPHMORES!!! He did have some talent when he got here, but not near enough to build a team around. When three out of the four players in our secondary are from the state of Nebraska and one of them didnt even play 11 man football in high school what does anyone expect. Our offense was good this year, not great, but that was one of the best defenses in the nation that we just played. They beat the potential National Champion, that should count for something. Taylor was a good quarterback and i think Nebraska owes him a lot, however he just doesnt have a ton of talent. He has a good arm, but i think the thing that hurt a lot was that he just didnt have very good feet or pocket presence. I would love to have someone compare Chad Hennes mechanics and Taylors. Its night and day. We did have a lot of talent this year, but the secondary was terrible, and the line was insanely young. Coaching can only do so much. It wasnt the best coached game, but with more talent, like the talent we are bringing in, we are only going to get better. Its only been three freakin years and he totally switched the offense!!!

  5. I honestly think that we will go to a BCS game next year. Our offense is going to be insane. Keller is going to outstanding, throwing the ball to Nunn, Purify, Swift, Hardy, Holt, Mcneil, and maybe Amie. With all of our running backs coming back and a now experienced and talented line with great depth it is going to be the best offense Nebraska has had since the 95 season. Our defense is going to be a lot better in my opinion than they were this year. I think a big reason we didnt get more sacks this year was because Coz knew that he couldnt blitz without getting burned because of our terrible secondary. With Green having a year under his belt in the same position and Asante replacing Shanle that gives the saftey spot a whole new look with the take your head off mentality. With Bowman and Murillo along with Grixby and Jones that will be a whole new look with the speed and size we lacked this year. At linebacker I really think it is a strong possiblity that Dillard will start at strong side linebacker with Mceon and Octavian in the other spots. With Brandenburgh and Rudd coming in off the bench and maybe throw in Travis Lewis or Blake Lawrence when need for added speed and that is a very good group. On the defensive line Suh will no doubt be the anchor in the middle, along with Johnson Steinkuler Townsand and maybe Barfield. On the ends it will be Turner and Potter and more than likely you will see one of the freshmen be a speed rusher on passing situations. I think our team with the schedule we have next year will be in strong contention for a national title and a huge favorite to return to the Big 12 Championship. Either way we are going to a BCS game.

  6. I cant believe this post, it is by far the dumbest thing i have ever heard. okay so maybe the last four calls were dumb. however to say that he should be fired just shows that none of you know football at all, the ones who say that anyway. the fake punt was there, had it worked and gone for about 20 yards like it would have had shanle caught the ball you all would be saying how gutsy he is and he was really playing to win. the second score it was a lucky bounce for auburn, had nunn caught the pass it would have been about a five yard gain instead of them getting the ball on their ten. as for the guy who said that cally has turned us into a one dimensional team Edited by Mods to remove personal attack shouldnt be allowed to post on here anymore. Thats the only thing that needs to be said about that besides the fact that Taylor passed for over 3000 yards and I think the team rushed for close to 2000 yards, damn thats one dimensional. The fact of the matter is that we knew our secondary wasnt very good, and our team allowed around 80 yards rushing, and close to 2 yards a rush. the only reason we lost was by a fluke play, shanles stone hands and one drive that they just lobbed the ball to grixbys side and let the receiver jump over him. certainly bad job callahan (DUMB!!!!) They are getting better with each year that passes, but lets fire him and start over. Everyone that thinks that is an idiot and shouldnt talk football anymore!!!

  7. I doubt that if Shanle didnt cost us any w's than Thenarse would not have either. Thenarse is faster, more athletic and hits harder than anyone in the secondary (not even close). He might not have been right for corner, but I would have loved to see him in Shanles spot just roaming around with his speed and hitting ability on the field. Shanle gave up more than a handful of touchdown just by himself getting burned or missing tackles, you cant tell me Thenarse wouldnt have been better.

  8. i agree that you could see some freshmen very high on the depth chart. However we saw the exact same thing this year. From about the third game Culbert and Thenarse were second string at their positions. When it came time to obviously give them a shot due to the fact that Shanle would think it was touch football they would never go in. It seemed like the staff was scared to put a frosh in just because of seniority which is the dumbest thing anyone could do. In my opinion that could be what recruits are seeing. I think if we would have just thrown one of them in there at the beginning against lesser teams they would have got their jitters out of the way. I dont buy that crap about ruining self esteem. That is what coaching is for to pick them back up and build their confidence back up. The so called "moment" Thenarse had in practice this week could have happened four months ago and he along with culbert would be a lot better for it.

  9. i really dont think taking our linebackers off the field would be a wise move. Yes our secondary is going to be much improved, with the addition of Asante, Murillo and the devolopment of Thenarse and Culbert. However, I just dont think it makes a lot of sense to take out Dillard (who i think could start at Strongside linebacker) or Octavian, then throw in Mceon and that is a very good part of our defense. I could see in certain situations such as a dime or nickel putting in that many db's but for a base defense i dont think makes much sense. I also think that culbert is much more physically talented than Green and with a year under his belt will take out Green for the starting spot along with Asante, Bowman, and Murillo, with Grixby or Thenarse coming in for added DBs.

  10. in my opinion i think the starters will be:

    LT:Murtha

    Patrick

    LG:Hickman

    Barret

    C:Byford

    Roark

    RG: Slauson

    Huff

    RT: Nicks

    Jones

Christenson was terrible this year in my opinion and towards the end of the year so was Huff. Every time there was a sack you could credit to one of those two. Maybe look for Keith Williams to step in somewhere also.
