  1. You all missed the best part of this back and forth. At the very end Holtz said that part of the responsibilty also falls on....gulp....the FANS!?!?!?!?! "You've got to be a lot more patient" was his exact words. Thankfully, both Rece and May pooh poohed that as nonsense.

  2. Nothing against Justin it's just a NCAA rule where you can't get a jersey with a current player is on that team during that year and guess what Justin is number 45 and his last name is Makovicka.

That's what I love about Korea - rules don't apply. Wanna see my Ruud jersey?

(qualifier - purchased it before the season started, haven't worn it since game 3) :hmmph

  3. Press Conference at 5:15 today!!!!!!!!!!

Link for those of us out of area? Is the Husker Network going to carry it so I can use the normal link I do for games? Help?

I'm pretty sure my Redskins ass-kissing networks around here won't say anything (they haven't yet). Maybe ESPN News?

    Cosgrove?????

Resignation/firing is too good for him. Stand him at the 50 holding a football and let former Blackshirts "fly to the ball."

No... stand him at the 50 and let Lawence Phillips drive his SUV over him - just tell LP that he just owned in a pickup football game.

  6. I don't think Pellini would be good for our program as far as image goes. Just something about that guy that screams Jimmy Johnson or Howard Schellenberger. And there is no way BP and TO get along...

My "other" for HC is Norm Chow. Not family, but proven. Or bring a Kiffin back into the fold

Well ESPN had tape on every game in the top 25 except for one guess which one. Espn just showed the score and went on to say Nebraska looked bad but still won by 18 points.

I don't believe all the hatred some people claim ESPN has for the Huskers, but I watched all the post game shows and there was hardly a mention that Nebraska even played.

I may be wrong, but isn't it because there was no TV broadcast of the game? So don't they have to pay or work with the school to get the vid? There was another one yesterday that was showing highlights that said up in the corner "courtesy of (insert school name here) athletic department". Guess they didn't want to pay us, or we didn't want to give up the vid. I hate ESPN as much as the next guy, but they focus their highlights on those games that they can show video of while they talk.

And as far as the commentary goes, look at the final stats of the game. That's an ugly win when you are out yardaged, out time of possession, out first downed, etc. and still win. Kunalic was a beast, and we capitalized on their turnovers more than they did on ours. That made the difference, so we did play poorly but still won.

  8. "oh-my-god-they-suck" categories.

Read: Notre Dame. What do we gots that the boys in the golden helmets don't? A potent O that can light up the scoreboard toe-to-toe with Ball Freakin State! And that makes us BETTER? Hell no! Charlie Weis is supposed to be an offensive guru that now can't even get into an opponents red zone. And our reputation is build on the mystique of the Blackshirt D. Both have taken a hike, and we are in the same boat as ND, but not "oh-fer" the season. Cause for celebration in the Husker Nation <_<

  9. Although it looked like I would have to eat my words after his performance at Wake, I stick with my prediction before the season started - every one of Zac's and the older passing records will fall this year. Unfortunately, that prediction was made with the assumption that the Blackshirts wouldn't be on vacation when this miracle occured, but.....

  10. We had the pleasure last night of being joined in our little game watch party in Annapolis, MD by two former Huskers - former roomates, in fact - and despite the final outcome of the game itself, their stories made it one of the best experiences I've ever had.

Jim Belka (FB/LB 72-76) and John O'Leary (IB 72-75) joined us for red beer and runzas, and for hours and hours of entertainment. John is our current LS (T.J.'s) dad. They are both great guys, but polar opposites. In fact, that is why T.O. roomed them together in 1972 as incoming freshmen. They were both from Catholic schools - Jim in KS and John from Long Island, NY - but John had a reputation as a wild one, and T.O. thought Belka could "calm him down" a little. Didn't happen.

Their stories were rich, from John being recruited by Monty Kiffin; Jim's TV that ended up being tossed out the 19th floor of the dorm; the St. Patrick's Day debacle the two of them got into in O'Neill involving a flag; playing with Humm and Farragamo; John's punt return for a TD against Minnesota; his short stay with the Chicago Bears, and then to the CFL where he won the Grey Cup and Rookie of the Year with Montreal; and the "Bum-a-Rooskie" play, which they named in honor of Bum Phillips and John ran against Mizzou in 1974 for a TD. The FIRST variation of the Fumblerooskie play that I had always though originated in 1984.

One of the best anecdotes was about when Jim first made the travel squad in 1974 and went on his first trip to Boulder. John stole his helmet just before game time. When T.O. called for the kickoff team for the first play and Jim was part of that formation, he freaked when he went to get his helmet and it was gone. Jim was about to face the Coach when John produced the helmet at the last second.

Another interesting tidbit of information was about Al Davis, owner of the Raiders and whom Humm played for after graduating. Despite what people might think of Al, he has paid all of David's medical bills in his struggle with M.S., and will continue to do so for the rest of his life. Now that's generosity.

On the other hand, we also heard stories and insight on today's Husker team - both positive and negative - that could only come from the father of a current player. As much as I would like to pass some of this stuff along, I'm going to respect that relationship and the expectation of confidentiality that the stories were relayed to us. I will say, however, that there is something going on right now that will shock the Husker Nation if and when it ever becomes public.

The phone call from T.J. to his dad shortly after the game was over confirmed pretty much what we had seen on TV. The USC offensive line had their way all day, and there wasn't anything they tried that would counter it. The team did not tank emotionally at all, but the fumble return for long yardage right after the half took a lot of wind out of their sails.

So despite the outcome of the game last night, my head is still spinning from the piece of Cornhusker football history I was a part of for a short time.

For those who are interested, Jim is the Captain of the U.S. Capitol Police SWAT team in D.C., and John owns a bingo equipment business here on the East Coast.
