  1. Basically every starting qb that the Blackshirts have faced end up looking awfully good. I think most of our problems are on the front four and a total lack of a rush or containment. I thought the secondary really held their own last night and should have gotten some coverage sacks.

It appears the DL has no speed to catch mobile QB's. With their starter going out, the fate as sealed.

  2. I really like the way we adjusted some of the passing for this game. If some of you guys missed it, we often dropped Burkhead into the middle of the field as an easy check down for Martinez if his first or second read didn't come through. I think this REALLY helped Martinez gain confidence today.

Noticed this too. Very smart move.

That move by Burkhead was amazing. Great comeback and confidence builder for Taylor and the whole team. tOSU couldn't stop NU in the 3rd and 4th quarter.

The David play saved this season.

  3. Taylor is a starting QB for a major college football program, and he has been playing poorly. He should expect to receive criticism. Nebraska is no different than Texas, Oklahoma, LSU, or Florida in this regard. If anything, I would think Nebraska fans are easier on the starting QB's than other schools.

If Taylor can't stand the heat, he should get out of the kitchen. The starting QB role comes with a lot of perks, but also -- as the criticism he has been getting shows -- downsides, as well. If the downsides are too much, he should get out. No one has a gun to his head.

Honestly, the criticism the article mentions isn't even that over-the-top. I mean, some college girl made a passing comment to him in Spanish class. Big deal. It's not as if she threw a rock through his window. Some people say stuff to his girlfriend. Big deal. The media might be tough on Taylor, but that's what the media is supposed to do -- criticize. The mainstream journalists in Nebraska criticize in a professional way.

    What's interesting to me is:

The criticism from NU fans is especially heated because NU fans don't like Taylor personally. They think he has a bad attitude, even when the team is winning. He doesn't seem honored to play football at Nebraska. He doesn't compliment Nebraska, the football tradition here, or the fans. It doesn't even seem as if he enjoys playing football, much less playing football at Nebraska. In every interview with the media, he comes off as having a "I don't give a damn" attitude. What is communicated is, I don't care. You're annoying me. When is the interview over? You guys are just a distraction in my life. On the field or on the sideline, he doesn't seem to rally the NU team like a leader would. In the past, he has been very stand-offish on the sideline, which is unusual for a starting QB.

This is how I feel too. When he is inside the 5, he calls his name way too may for the only viable option at QB. The attitude he showed last year when he was pulled was very bad too.

  4. The fan/media - coaches/players relationship is a two-way street. How do you expect Bo to react when the fans/media have been attacking his players' integrity all week long?

Taylor was a spoiled little intitled kid at the news conference. "We are putting last week behind us." "What you said." Nothing from him said, I played poorly, I am sorry, I am going to try to get better to help my team.

  5. http://ow.ly/6PXkz

    Was that really necessary?

    Weak sauce Bo!

Yes, the media and fans want to know if Taylor is accountable for one of the worst performances of any Husker Qb in recent memory.

I will say it again. Bo has put in job on the line with Taylor. The media is not on a witch hunt. The media doesn't have NU in this position

after handing out 80 scollies and this is the best QB NU can put on the field. NU has an extremely faster runner playing QB. That is great if

you are looking at being a top 25 team and losing 4 games a year.

I think most NU fans are looking or National Championships!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Bo could care less what the media or fans think on how he manages this team. He makes millions and laughs all the way to the bank every week.

He needs to be held accountable for the position this team is in too. To turn this back on the media as trying to get a reaction from Taylor.......

    Weak sauce Bo!

  6. This is a Bo decision, and we all have to live with that. I support Bo, if he says that Martinez is the best we have at this point, so be it. But I think if that is the case, someone needs to sit Martinez down and tell him to "just shut up". I am tired of him sounding like he is whining. Whining sounds like excuses, not a leader taking the bull by the horns and taking some responsibility for himself and his team.

I do believe that we need to start trying to work in someone as a backup and get them some experience. I don't know that Martinez isn't heading for a mental meltdown, or he could get hurt again.

I'm not sure I've heard Taylor whine about anything, but this is about the fourth time in about 20 minutes I've heard you whine about it. So there might be something to it.

It is all over the press how the press is out to get him, and he don't care what the fans think...his tweets are all over the place on here, also.

    What tweets?

Also, I don't see him whining. He called a spade a spade. Whoopty-do.

Taylor has a twitter that is a protected account. Only his followers can see his tweets I think. TTM_3 is his twitter account.

New twitter account started an hour by someone looking to get support for Taylor.

    @KBellJr80 we got a twitter account for everything pro-Taylor #spreadtheword #pleaseandthankyou

  7. Tweets are like "opinions" , everyone's got one. What does it say for your life if you are following Phillip Dillard on twitter. He needs to keep it in house. That being said, I too thought Bo should have sent B Carnes in the 4th quarter. I do understand he wanted to gauge TMarts personality and decision making on the pressure he was receiving. The problem was, he was not making good choices. Like he said "I need to work on my progressions". We don't know where Carnes mindset was either. He might have looked at the coach with deer in the headlight eyes and they said no. I am not one to bash players, but I will bash a coach if they can't coach and I think the majority of the blame does not fall on TMart here, but on the Defensive coaching staff, line and secondary. Like Hammerhead said, Taylor wasn't the one letting the other team score now was he.

If following Dillard put a label on you, go ahead and label me.

  8. Man, look at Taylor's mechanics on the still shot on the bottom video....eek.

I do a lot of Martinez supporting. But damn, man. That just doesn't look good.

I had a friend of my son over watching the game on Saturday. The kid is 14 and knows nothing about football and plays mainly basketball. One pass from Taylor on Saturday, he just laughed and said, "what was that"? I tried to explain but..................................60 minutes later the game was toast and he left the room.

PhilDill's sophomore year was utterly forgettable. He contributed to the single worst defense this program has witnessed in 40 years that year. I do not recall a single former player publicly calling for his benching that year, or any other of his sad career. Martinez is at least trying, but making bad decisions while doing it. Dillard was a case of absolute lack of effort. He's embarrassing himself with these tweets. Sad.

The dude was drafted into the NFL. Doesn't matter what he did as a sophomore. He was a sophomore on one of the worst teams NU has fielded. He wasn't handling the rock on every offensive play, like Taylor does. He is a very visible player saying what needs to be said.

Taylor is not a QB. He is a extremely talented fast straight line runner. Taylor is surrounded by a lot of weapons. He is calling out the staff from a distance. Bo has put his job at NU on Taylor. If Taylor is successful than he stays. If Taylor to lose the big games, Bo will be forced out. Solich found that out. 4 loss seasons for a top 10 talent is not going to get at NU.

When has NU had this much young talent and overall talent at WR, RB and TE's and Special Teams? It is all lost if the QB can't get the ball to the right personnel.

  10. Dillard went off with several tweets and there was a comment posted by the guy posted the tweets that said, if you ever run into Dillard, ask him what the locker room thinks of him. That is from two years ago but when Taylor was a true freshman but it is very telling from a guy that was a star here and drafted into the NFL.

Going back to the stats thing. Taylor has Rex behind in goal line plays and he calls his own number way too often. I think he wants the glory for the TD's.

I just read all of Dillard's tweets from that day, and I'm not seeing anything about Martinez having lost the locker room. Until I see it for myself, I can't believe it.

And still, your last line is purely conjecture. I would argue Martinez just tries to do too much, not because he wants glory but because he wants those who criticize him to shut up. Furthermore, when Martinez keeps the ball near the goal line, we seem to score. If Burkhead really is the team player everyone says he is, then he shouldn't have a problem with it.

here is one of Dillard's tweets. I wanna know if u can name a worst thrower in "CFB"... Well u other 21 players keep playing hard so we can win

Not a ringing endorsement by Dillard. The losing the locker room is nothing I have heard just a reaction to listening to and watching the audio I couldn't hear. I had to listen to the audio since I couldn't understand the words he was trying to communicate. He press conference was very troubling on many levels.

  11. Martinez's audio from the Presser

Not only has he lost the locker room, he has lost the media too. He thinks he is good at reading defenses. He really just needs one of those do over moments.

Where has it been expressly said that Martinez has lost the locker room?

Honest question. Not trying to troll.

When Dillard goes off on him on twitter like he did, it is my feeling with no inside information that he is not well liked. He is not very removed from this team, so with him blasting him, their has to be something to his tweet. I copy and post the one that describes the locker room.

Seeing Rex throw his hands up when he is uncovered on a swing pass and watching Rex watch Taylor keep the ball on the goal line game after game is disturbing.

I think Taylor plays for one thing. Taylor Martinez He wants the stats for himself.

Did you copy and paste the Dillard tweet or is it somewhere in this thread? If so, I'd like to read it.

As far as your last line, I think that's purely conjecture. It's either he wants the stats for himself or he tries to do too much because he wants to win, which is what the coaches have said on multiple occasions.

  13. You know at first I didn't much care for his attitude at the press conference, but then I started looking at it differently. I'm a cop, as most know, so I tried to put a connection between his position and mine. The connection is that he is constantly under public scrutiny, everyone thinks that they know how to do his job, people constantly tell him how to do his job, people always question what he is doing and why he is doing it, and no matter what he's always going to do it wrong. This happens alot to police officers and I know I don't care for this type of behavior. I'm not going to go crazy on the kid, the coaches will make the right decisions and I would be a little salty too if everyone was bagging on me, which they tend to do and I do get salty. Just a comparison...............

Do you have the ability to admit when you are wrong and have some accountability for performing poorly? That is what is wrong with this audio and the video.

  14. I saw the right tackle (67) for UW hold on nearly every play and only when the game was out of reach were they called. That was the reason NU last but when you have a QB back there and no one can get to him, you have to look at some of the holding as why that happened.

Dude is 6' 6" or 6'7" and 330. That dude doesn't need to hold but he has perfected it.
