  1. Sour grapes, but what a bunch of horsecrap. Suh is the best defensive player in the country, end of story.

But anyway, let's get Suh back home and ready to beat up on some (more) Wildkitties!

This is an EGREGIOUS decision. The need to put 1 second back on the this presentation and announce the winner as SUH. I am sorry. This was for the player with the most IMPACT on and off the field. That means SUH should have won this by a landslide.

He showed he deserved this award and they screwed him again.

BS I invested 45 minutes watching this crap!!!!

    SUH, you were robbed again.

You will get yours in April.

  2. Proviso East defensive back Corey Cooper still interested in Illinois

    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

If Illinois football is in unstable mode, coach Ron Zook is keeping that out of the recruiting pitch.

Proviso East defensive back Corey Cooper visited Illinois over the weekend along with some other recruits and said the recent firing of four assistant coaches and a 3-9 season haven't deterred him from possibly attending Illinois.

"I'm not letting that be part of my thoughts," said Cooper, who was mainly recruited by Dan Disch, who remained on staff but will be a position coach instead of co-defensive coordinator. "[Zook] said he'd be there a lot longer than I will."

Cooper, a 6-foot-2 four-star recruit, already orally committed to Illinois. He has visited and is also considering Notre Dame, Nebraska and Arizona.

Cooper said he spoke to Notre Dame coach Brian Kelly since he was hired earlier this week.

    "He seems cool," Cooper said.

He plans to visit South Bend to meet with Kelly before making a final decision on a team possibly in January.

Cooper will play in the offense/defense All-Star Game in South Carolina in early January.

Landing Cooper will be important to the Illini, who were jolted by 6-7, 240-pound tight end C.J. Fiedorowicz, a four-star recruit out of Johnsburg. He had originally committed to Illinois but opted instead for Iowa.

According to recruiting Web sites, Illinois currently has just eight oral commitments.

    ____________________________________________________________

Wow, I had no idea Illinois had only 8 commits. And people b*%$# and moan about our class. I almost feel bad about (hopefully) taking Cooper away. Wish we could steal him from a USC or a Texas.

With all the drama at UI and all the coaches being switched, it bodes well for us.

It is well documented that Brian Kelly got a huge pay day but he is going to have a hard time righting that ship. No offense with QB and best WR going pro. The team has no D right now and will take 1 to 2 to 3 classes to make them OK on D.

UA is losing a coach to FSU. Not sure if he is the head coach but he has to be a defensive coach.

Of the 4 teams, 3 of the 4 have serious issues.

This bodes well for us. Let's get another 4 star recruit on D.

  3. If it comes down to what WVU has to offer on his visit then IMO he'll be a Husker. Because the facilities are second to none here. The only thing that worries me is the distance; Lincoln is along way from Youngstown.

If it comes down to just us and UWV only then I feel really good about our chances. This recruit could go anywhere, so we would love to have him

Let's have some faith in Bo and let him do his thing.

    Go Huskers!!!!

Braylon, come join us and you will love it here.

  4. It also helps that the Brothers Pelini speak his language. Afterall, they're blue collared Youngstown Mooney High success stories.

I just wish Heard and Bell would've come here on a game day. Seeing that excitement and then they can project themselves as playing in the stadium. I read that Heard didn't want to make visits until his season ended. It just ended. I think the recent success of our team and the tradition will make the decision to come to NU an easy one.

Let's have faith in Bo, I didn't see the UWV Head Coach on national TV on Saturday telling the nation that SUH was the best player in the national and totally dominated the team playing for the national championship. (Texas) Bo will close him. Wouldn't it be nice if the scolly for Gabbert is used for Heard.

Each touchdown he scores the announcers can say, "there goes Heard with another score, he's the great talent that was given the scolly, by the kid that strung the program along and de-committed to another school like his older brother". "I guess that was a good thing for Nebraska Football". "Nebraska is really dominating with this talented RB".

  5. For those of you who haven't seen a highlight reel of Kenny Bell, the athlete from Boulder, check it out. I wasn't expecting much, but the kid looks elusive as hell. That first run is unreal. Apparently he is a lock too and has been waiting for an offer. Hope we develop him well he definitely looks like he has potential.

  6. I write a weekly sports column in Arkansas. I thought you might be interested in it. Below is the excerpt from my column about your game:

    Review, I Still Hate It.

The Texas-Nebraska game was another quick reminder of why I hate reviews. If you did not see the game, the Texas coach lost his mind and decided to run a play with 8 seconds left with the clock still running (shades of LSU) while his team was in easy field goal range for the win. The Texas quarterback ran to the sideline being chased and hurled the ball way out of bounds. The clock read zero. Nebraska celebrated what it thought was a 12-10 victory.

The play was reviewed and the ball did hit the ground out of bounds with maybe a second left on the clock (if the clock keeper’s hand can be that accurate watching a ball hit the ground). Texas benefited from a technicality and got one second back on the clock, which is all they needed to get the field-goal team on the field for the game-winning field goal and win 13-12.

I then argued over this call that was reversed by review with friends. They were saying the call was correct. My position was that seconds are lost all the time during the game and nobody cares because the clock guys hands are just a second slow. All of a sudden when it matters for Texas we’re going to get technical to the Longhorns’ advantage. I charged that every play during the game should be reviewed to ensure the exact time is kept. They said that was ludicrous and I countered what just happened was bias under equal protection. I said if that play happened at any other point in the game, is it corrected? And they said probably not. They still maintained the refs got the call right. I then countered one more time. If it were the Hogs and the positions were reversed with Texas on defense and the Hogs on offense and the clock ran out, do you think the Hogs would get the second back on the clock? They fell silent.

    www.fruitbatbooks.com

Good take. I was under the impression that since it was a human stopping the clock it shouldn't be reviewable and who is to say when he/she should've stopped it. We heard the official that made the decision is a graduate of the University of Texas. Can you mention that in your column? If the Texas D was on the field it would of been ruled no time, game over. This had a lot to do with the BCS too. Big money at stake. Also, the take I really have on this, Bo Polini didn't try to get a 3rd and 4 with a play action pass and then run if it wasn't there. You get the first down and run the clock to almost zero or less than 30 seconds. You get that first down you can run three sneaks up the middle and milk the clock. They only had two timeouts. One gets used on 1 down. One on second and then 40 seconds gets used on 3rd down. You get a first down again, you get to run the clock to 3 seconds. You can't give McCoy, who has 44 wins a minute 1:43 on the clock. He now has 45 wins.

  7. What happened to Toalia? Still on the O line?

Did anyone see we got two more 4 star recruits today. We lost a tiny 4 star recruit as QB/Gabbert but picked up a 4 star OL in Hardwick and a 4 star LB recruit from Fort Scott.

4 weeks ago the OL was just visiting with his friends. Now he is a 4 star OL Husker.

Bo Polini is guiding this rocket in the right direction.

We lost two 4 star recruits but picked up two more in one day. Nice work Poline and staff!!!!!

    WE ARE FINE IN HUSKER-LAND!!!!!!

  8. How is the favor tilted to the O? I get that our defense is good and helping out of offense but not recruiting any offensive skill players makes no sense. With our pathetic offense we need play-makers coming in here to help up the production. Our defense can't carry us to the Big 12 Championship game every year.

IT IS SAD THAT THIS STAFF EVEN RECRUITED GABBERT. HE COMES FROM BAD BLOOD. HE PLAYED US BIG TIME. Cody Green will start for the next 3 years. Seriously, he is a close version of Vince Young. Once we get through next years spring game and fall practice, it will be all good. He is the closest we have had to TF, Tommy Frazier, since Turner Gil. If recruits can't see the potential of NU, we will just move on. No big deal. Our core is there and we will compete for a National Championship soon. We only lost one game by more than one touchdown.

THINK ABOUT IT!!!!! We are a one lose team in reality coming off the Calahan era!!! The Calahan era!!!!

    Child, Please!!!!!!!!

We are fine. NU under Polini will dominate soon!!!!

  9. Okay, now that everyone has had 2 days to be pi$$ed, point fingers, break things, etc.....

Serious question for FANS, (knowing that we have zero influence on decision or zero access to practice)

Should Bo use this month of practice to get Cody Green ready to start or at least play 1/2 of the bowl game?

    IMO, yes......

If you think that Green "may" be your starter next season, then IMO, you get him ready to play vs Arizona. I understand that the offensive woes aren't all on Zac Lee's shoulders, but how could the offense get any worse with Green at QB. If you are only asking Lee to hand-off, option, and an occassional play-action pass, surely Green can handle that. Let's see how this kid handles a decent/good opponent and help him get ready for next season. Plus, this should really motivate him and Lee to work like crazy. It would give him a little excitement (hope) and force Lee to get better or ride the pine.

** Before anyone who is always looking for "controversy", please don't throw the "Bo knows better than we do" remark out there......we know that....this is an OPINION/DISCUSSION ISSUE.

Cody Green has to get a shot! He has legs and confidence, something that Lee lacks. Honestly Zac Lee could not hit the red side of a barn. Yes, I know there are people out there who want to ride me for calling out a player...But even the Omaha World Herald indirectly points it out. I remember reading an article saying Zac Lees deep balls that were intercepted were extremely off but not costly because they acted as punts. Plain and simple Cody has to get experience. And as far as today article in the World Herald about Watson saying that Zac Lee is quote unquote growing is BS. The kid came from a JuCO. You dont see anyone stating Asante needs to grow and is inexperienced.

Cody Green you get my vote!

    Quoting the article:

"I remember reading an article saying Zac Lees deep balls that were intercepted were extremely off but not costly because they acted as punts."

That statement in the article is ridiculous. I have never ever seen a team punt on 1st down. 2 picks were thrown on 1st down each time. Effectively taking away 100% of the upside of the turnover. Punting on 1st gets you beat every time. 6 for 19 and 39 yards gets you beat every time.

CODY GREEN IS THE STARTER. I refer to the other guy as our Ex QB.

  10. What about breweries? Any suggestions?

Karl Strauss, Rock Bottom, Stone, Oggi's, Pizza Port, Coronado, Miami Grille, San Diego Brewing Co,Ballast Point and Gordon Biersch are a few of the many breweries in San Diego, most have more than one location.

Karl Strauss in Sorrento Valley and Stone Brewery in Escondido both have well designed, outdoor/indoor restaurant/beer gardens with both excellent beer and food selections.

Rock Bottom has good beer and even better food. Happy Hour is great and well priced.

Oggi's has good pizza and other selections, beer selection is not bad, plus they have tons of TV's and many locations throughout San Diego.

Pizza Port has the best Pizza in San Diego, hands down!! The beer is also great!! The one in Solana Beach has a great location on the 101 and is near a handful of other bars including Tidewater, Surf and Saddle and Chiefs.

Miami Grille has great Cuban food, the Cubano sandwich is awesome. Beer is brewed on site and their Mojito's are pretty damn good.

Gordon Biersch is a toss up. I've never really had a good experience there, but a lot of people love it.

These are just a tiny sample of the many breweries in San Diego and I'm sure if you ask anybody when you arrive they'll be able to point you in the right direction.

Thanks Socal! I'm going to have to give Karl Strauss a try.

You're welcome. Karl Strauss has like 6 locations in San Diego so you'll be able to find one wherever you're staying.

I am thinking of staying at a few places.

    1) La Jolla Hyatt of the 5.

    2) Torrey Pines Hilton near the gold course.

    3) Estancia near UCSD. We like La Jolla and want to be close to La Jolla for the non-game activities.

We are taking 2 kids, 10 and 12, so do you know anything about my first two choices. I think the first two are about 170.00 per night. Estancia about 200.00 per night. Kids want some jacuzzi opportunities when we are at the hotel.

  12. Here's a thread for those of you who may not know Southern California too well. I lived there for four years while in the Marines (not saying I know everything to do or see, however) and I thought I might just throw a few things out there. Feel free to add anything you want! GBR!!!

Here's The Fisherman in San Clemente, while not in San Diego county it is on the very southern border of Orange County. Great seafood and atmosphere. Right on the Pier in San Clemente.

  13.

This award has turned into the winner being from the No 1 team in the nation. Forde said he likes SUH but thinks Ingram will get it. He isn't even the best player on his team let alone the best player in the nation. Gerhart blew his stats out this year. SUH dominated even with double teams and holding calls on most plays.

For Ingram to be as dominate as SUH he would have to run with only 3 OL men and that would equal the players that SUH has to face on every play.

I was hoping he would block the kick and put a stamp on the heisman. If he was lined up on the right side of the line he could've got the block.

  14. I don't know... But the Big XII instant replay rules are pretty clear. Simply gong to review to change an "eggregious" time keeping error (I'm not sure 1 extra second running off out of 3600 seconds is eggregious) is simply not allowed by rule. Unless of course, they were stating that the result of the play -- an incomplete pass -- was incorrect.

On that drive I think the zebras got the previous calls right...

Kicking a kickoff out of bounds places the ball on the 40 yard line.

A horse collar tackle is a 15 yard personal foul.

And McCoy let the ball fly out of his hands and it landed out of bounds with about a second left. The clock operator responded in whatever way they did, and the clock ended up on 0:00. However, nothing in the Big XII rules allows this to go instant replay review.

If the officials on the field fixed this without the help of the booth, then there is absolutely no problem with correctly adding a second back on the clock. However, I don't think this is how this went down -- and I think a lot more people should be outraged, even though the Huskers appeared to be trying to give Texas the game.

    My 2 cents...

You are correct, this is not reviewable. Bo would have had to walk off the field and protest to Big 12 Officials before he let the kick go off. Once the officials let the kick go off, it was too late. He can yell all he wants. Big $$$ were at stack here. We were sacraficial lambs here!!!! BCS couldn't have TCU play BAMA this year. They needed UT on this. They will come out later today or Monday and say it was the wrong call but the officials let the play go on, so it has to stay with what happened. They will amend the rules to allow for extra time to put on the clock for future issues. The rules are clear. They don't have the authority to put time on the clock like that.

Now, I think officials can review plays on reviewable plays and add time but this was not reviewable. Plays like penalties where the clock runs off. Curious to see if my feeling are correct on this like your feelings rabidpitbull. There was a human official that had to stop the clock. He chose to let it run to zero. NOT REVIEWABLE!!!!!! Was he a Husker fan, I doubt it, but he let it run out. NOT REVIEWABLE!!!!!

  15. I learned the same lesson that i learned when we played Virgina Tech this year.

YOU CAN'T WIN A GAME ON FIELD GOALS ALONE.

I agree but, we could've won this one with 5 FG s, unlike the VT game. Each time we had a big mo turnover, our EX QB would throw on pick on the next play. That is ridiculous and why he is referred to as our EX QB.

BO needs to take some blame here. With 1.50 to go he goes for a run off left guard for no gain. FG with that much time is So Wrong!!!!!

I am getting texts from a fellow Husker, need to run play action to TE or WR running a 5 yard pattern. We

get the 1st down we run clock and the game is off with zero time on the clock. If we miss then you take the kick. You would of saved one of their timeouts but you "played to win the game". Because "you play to win the game". All this talk about shankasorusrex and horse collar mean nothing. If Zac rolls out and the 5 yard pass isn't there then you try to scramble or run, just don't lose 20 yards on the scramble. We needed to attempt a 5 yard pass to win the game!!!!!!

    Thoughts gentlemen.

    schuhbdoo

This was the look on my face after Bo's decision to not pass for a 1st down.

Valid argument. I liked the run call though. Take the field goal. We're up with our defense on the field to win. That's what we wanted. Chances are that Adi boots one to the endzone. Hey maybe they return it to the 30. That gives us about 30-40 yards to work with. Bo liked the odds, as did I. A team with 2 timeouts is way harder to play against than a team with 1. I don't question that playcall at all. Play to win? We did. We had more points on the board at that point. Just my opinion.

Texas knew our tendencies on that play. You try to trick them by doing something that is not obvious. If you get the 5 yards, game over. If our Ex QB runs and doesn't go out of bounds it is the same thing. Time out must be called to stop the clock. He just can't lose 15 yards to make it a 57 yarder. If we get a

first down you take all the actions of Adi, Asante and the officials out of the game. You can't give a guy(McCoy) who has 44 wins and now 45 wins, 1:43 on the clock. Bo needs to be able to "play to win the game". He is a defensive genius. He has not shown me he can manage the offensive side of a close game. Gomes makes the play of the year and it all for not due to our inability to play action roll out pass for 5 yards. SUH has the best game of his career and it is all for not.
