  1. the bigger problem with him, moreso than his height is his weight. You can be a 5-9 corner, which he is. At least he's listed as that, but you need to be carrying about 185 lbs. he's 15 lbs lighter than that.

  2. I hope you don't think I am an anti-Grixby type of person here. i am not. I think teams need more guys like Grixby. I think he is te defensive captain this upcoming season without question. he exudes leadership and has dealt with almost everything. I am just saying that I think he'll be our nickelback and not one of te two starters. However, where I do see him being listed at #1 on the depth chart is at PR. He's a shifty little snot, making him tough on punt returns.

  3. This is with full respect to Grix, but I just don't see A Murillo letting JD Booty and D Jarrett convert on 3rd and 18 on him. Don't get me wrong, Grixby shouldn't even have had to cover Jarrett in the first place, which is why I believe he makes a great nickel. Murillo will be a blackshirt next year.

  4. Spring ball will give Armando a huge advantage for the fall. I guess I don't think he'll start for the opener against Nevada, but he'll be on the field more than Grixby against SC and that's really when we find out who our #1s are. I think he'll dethrone Grixby, a 3 year starter, because he's a better CB. He may take a few weeks to get up to speed, this is where spring ball is huge, but he'll be our guy by the SC game. Like I said above, that's a fact. In reality I am actually Coach Billy C.

  5. I am almost certain there is no official list. The only information you'll get will be hearing reports of people being there. You can probably count on midwest recruits coming, but not guys from CA, and places far away...although that is not always the case (Meno) but a pretty good rule of thumb.

  6. Blake Lawrence will be a WILL his whole career. he does not have the bigger bone structure to play inside. In fact his smaller frame is the reason it took us so long to offer in the first place.

Don't give me the McKeon is small too stuff. Lawrence doesn't have McKeon's frame.

  7. I know that the head coach of the New Mexico Military Institute has seen him play and said he's got as much talent as any corner he's seen.

Do you know any corners that have gone through the New Mexico Military Institute?

  8. BigWillie, I've got no idea. I just saw his name on the roster as OL. I figured he was too short for OT, so I made him a guard. He's a total mystery in my book. If you're sure he's a DT, I'll make the switch, but otherwise I'm sticking with huskers.com roster.

  9. I get frustrated when I hear that Grixby sucks. This is simply not true. Grixby getting picked on is a result of bad matchups. Grixby simply cannot matchup with the likes of Dwayne Jarrett, Todd Blythe, Limas Sweed, Adarius Bowman and Malcolm Kelly. All of these WRs are 6-4 200+ lbs. Whereas Grixby is a 5-8+ 170 lbs. he gets poor matchups. If Grixby covers the smaller receiver he'll be solid. This is why I have pegged him to be my nickel corner. I think he'll be on those smaller slot receivers like white on rice.

  10. Major Culbert is a defensive player that is only playing running back this spring in case we get into a pinch and we need someone at running back. The idea is that we could put him in at running back because he will have gotten some reps and know the offense. Come fall training camp, he should be put back on defense. There is speculation as to where he's going to be on defense, LB or Safety, hence why he's at both spots.

As far as the 2nd string SAM backer, it's kinda hairy there. Recently the LJS said that "Ruud will replace departed senior Stewart Bradley, leaving seniors Steve Octavien and Lance Brandenburgh to battle for the starting job at the weakside position." So I suppose that Brandenburgh is no longer on that SAM side. So, who's going to be the backup? It's a little tough to pick. I made the prediction that Kadavy will be the 2 guy. He's been here for what seems like forever, and it's kind of by default. Who else are you going to put there? True freshman or a walkon redshirt freshman? I suspect that if we really got in a pinch we'd probably put Brandenburgh back over there, but who's to say.

Titus Brothers: Generally true freshman corners have a tough time adjusting to the speed of Bowl division calibre speed. Thenarse gave an interview during the bowl practices last year where he said his technique was improving, but he was just getting beat. Ralph Brown, Fabian Washington and Cortney Grixby all got picked on and burned their freshman years. Generally I don't expect freshman to come in and make an impact, if it happens, it's a bonus.

  11. - Players in italics are unavailable for spring practice, whether it be because of injury, or because they haven't enrolled yet.

    - Players marked with a (W) are walkons or former walkons.

    - Let me know of any inaccuracies and I will be sure to change them.

  12. Senior Bo Ruud's switch from weakside linebacker to strongside linebacker highlighted a rundown of position changes supplied Tuesday by Nebraska coach Bill Callahan.

Ruud will replace departed senior Stewart Bradley, leaving seniors Steve Octavien and Lance Brandenburgh to battle for the starting job at the weakside position.

"That will be an outstanding position for Bo, (because of) the way we're playing coverage and what we're asking the SAM to do in coverage. Also, in terms of his blitzing, that'll be an ideal spot for Bo," Callahan said.

In addition, junior Clayton Sievers will move from strongside linebacker to the "open" defensive end position, where he will compete for playing time come August with classmate Barry Turner. Turner will be sidelined for all of spring practice with a shoulder injury.

"I think Clayton will find a home there," Callahan said.

    Other players on the move:

-- Redshirt freshman Pierre Allen, from "open" end to "base" end, where he will compete for playing time with junior Zach Potter. The 6-foot-5 Allen, listed at 225 pounds last season, weighed 266 last week, Callahan said.

-- Major Culbert, from safety to I-back (he practiced at I-back during Cotton Bowl preparation). "He was impressive," Callahan said, adding, "We still feel he's a defensive player, and he'll make a contribution on defense. We're not going to lose that side in terms of his progress.

"This just puts him in position to help us at the running back position in an emergency situation . . . However, I'm not saying he couldn't contribute (at I-back), because he certainly can."

    Also:

-- Tierre Green, from strong safety to free safety; Rickey Thenarse, from cornerback to strong safety; Anthony West, from corner to free safety; Mike Smith, from defensive end to offensive left tackle; Matt Slauson, from right tackle to right guard; Jordan Picou, from defensive line to center/left guard.
