  1. Human Action by Ludwig Von Mises

Mises' magnum opus on praxeology and how it applies to economics. Reading with a dictionary. Slow going at this point and it's over 800 pages, so I will be at for a while.

    Mysterious Island by Jules Verne

I have to read a novel every once in a while to stay sane, and I really enjoyed "20,000 leagues under the sea", so I figured I'd give this one a go. I like it so far.

  2. In passing, tell him NOT to act like a previous QB we had named Jamal and run out of bounds instead of fighting for yards to continue crucial drives....DAMN, I had to bring that painful, painful memory back up.

In all honesty, what attracted him to the Huskers...coaches, facility, academics, history??

perhaps you're thinking of joe dailey, because lord was a beast with the ball in his hands.

    :yeah

Jamal Lord was an absolute warrior at QB for NU. Please don't mistake J-Lo for Daily.

I don't think the NU QB single game rushing record holder, 234 yards against Texas, fits this description.

I must have seen a different J. Lord playing...... "Warrior" does not even come close to the guy I saw playing.

Perhaps this will jog your memory?

    Back to the topic.

I don't think Turner will be quite the athlete that Crouch or Lord were, though I think he will be a good runner; however, I do anticipate him being a more polished passer.

I respect your opinion, but I disagree with the bolded statement above. Just curious if you've seen any of Turner's film yet? He's also a standout basketball player who averages 18 pts. per game. The kid is the epitome of an athlete.

That is quite fair. I will rephrase it. I don't think that turner will depend on his running ability quite like previous qb's, both because of his passing ability and the system that he will be playing in. I do, however, think he is comparable athletically, but perhaps not in running prowess (Crouch and Lord were just ridiculous). Time will tell. Running in high school and running in college are two different things, but I am excited for Turner (provided he signs ;) ).

oh, I have seen his film.

  3. This kid says one thing does the other he states he is ready to shut things down.wants to commit and focus on his high school team.

Names his top four Texas, Florida, Alabama and Missouri I am not big on traveling, but will try to visit Georgia and LSU, Will attend Texas on 27 seen Missouri play Navy and Texas twice. Cancelled trip to OU Diggs says, academics rank one and I have other factors in the mix.The only place he has visited is Texas why would you shut thing down?

    :dunno:dunno:dunno:dunno

Watching Mizzou play Navy should have been enough to cross them off of his list.

  5. This a valid point, but the problem lies in "throw some weight on him." I'm not sure he has the body type to gain the weight required to play d-end.

Although, if he could put on 20-30 pounds he would be a formidable speed rusher.

Isn't depth awesome? Having log jams at positions is such a wonderful problem.

  6. I have heard some people say Crick has the same tools as Suh, just needs seasoning. Crick is a great player and if Baker is a quick learner i think our D-line not only doesnt take a step back, they take a step FORWARD!

I ripped on O'Hanlon all year but he has been solid the last few weeks.

    GBR

rumor is baker switches to OT and meredith moves to DT. therefore Ankrah starts at DE

There isn't any basis for this rumor. The coaches gave baker the option of playing offensive or defensive line. He chose to play on the d-line. He has played at that position for two years, and will be the starter this year. Why would he switch now? He would be learning a completely different position. Besides the fact that we have depth at the o-line now, and he would be 5 steps behind on the learning curve compared to players in his class.

Meredith is settling in very nicely at the d-end spot. Expect He, Pierre Allen, and Ankrah to all contribute this year. This kind of depth is a wonderful thing and does not necessitate position changes.

  7. I can definately see your point BigWillie. But one could argue that we have a drop back passer with some athletic ability playing QB for us now. (Zach Lee)

And Zac, even with his ginormous confidence issues, is still head and shoulders above any QB we have on our roster.

That is why we need a true and legit QB prospect as well rather than an athlete who hopes to learn the position in their time here on campus.

Remember, we may take two QBs in this class, so we may also go after a more traditional QB.

Could Turner project as a safety or is he set on QB?

  8. If I was coach I would make these 4 changes

Move Prince to WR. He has crazy moves and can actually catch the ball.

Move Reed back to LB. We seem to have a surplus of TE's now and I remember last season the coaches were saying he was unblockable.

Move Baker to O-Line. We flat out need help there and he is a beast.

And finally, demolish the QB position on the depth chart.

Not to rain on your parade, but.....

Prince was all Big XII. He will be the best player in the defensive backfield for us, if not the whole Big XII. Moving possibly our best defensive player next year to offense make absolutely no sense.

Reed has a huge future at tight end, and we have a surplus of linebackers in his class. He has two seasons at tight end under his belt. It would be straight silly to move him now.

Baker is a defensive lineman. Please accept it people. That is where he wants to be, that is where the coaches want him, and he will be a starter next year. It would take a year, if not more, on the bench before he could contribute on the o-line. Moving from the d-line to the o-line is a HUGE change. Just because they are both lines does not mean you can transition easily. That would be a career killer.

I won't even respond to the last suggestion.

  9. question:

do you think Bo and Wats are deliberately trying to lose??

why on earth would anyone think they would give green LESS playbook to work with than he's capable of??

what is their motivation for not letting him loose?? letting the thoroughbred run, etc.,etc.,etc.

do you seriously think either Bo or Watson WANT green to fail???

    or the team??

just maybe, they gave him "training wheels" for a reason.

    :dumdum

Shatel's point is that "training wheels" shouldn't be required. If you need to be a 4th or 5th year qb to run the offense, than it is too complicated.

No, obviously no one is stupid enough to think that Wats or Bo want Green to fail, but you can desire to succeed and still fail. It's not about wanting or not wanting him to fail, it's about putting him in a position where he can succeed.

Please don't ask questions you know the answers to. It's a waste of everyone's time.

  10. The problem with Cody Green he has NO SPARK NO SPARKY!!!!

    And Helu is FINE!

    Hickman will be FINE!

Our long snapper needs a SPARK!

    "Pelini: Offense needs spark

12:37 p.m. Coach Bo Pelini thinks his offense, which has managed just 17 points in the last two games, needs some kind of mental jumpstart.

Pelini spoke on the Big 12 coaches teleconference today, hinting that the recent offensive problems aren't personnel-oriented. The players need a spark, he said.

“Where that spark comes from, that's for us to determine,” he said. “I think that could come from a lot of different areas. We need to light a fire under it. Somebody's got to step up and make some plays.”

Pelini was complimentary of quarterback Zac Lee, who played the entire 9-7 loss against Iowa State and was 20-for-37 for 248 yards. The starter's performance wasn't flawless, Pelini said, but Lee “graded out pretty well.”

No changes at quarterback right now, Pelini said.

Nebraska should have its most veteran offensive lineman healthy for Saturday's game at Baylor. Senior center Jacob Hickman, with his right foot heavily taped, played on just two possessions against Iowa State.

“Jacob Hickman's getting better every day and I would think that he's going to be available for the game on Saturday,” Pelini said.

-- From the Big 12 Conference today: Nebraska's Nov. 7 game against Oklahoma could be televised by ABC. An announcement isn't expected until the weekend.

The network, seeking to fill its 2:30 and 7 p.m. slots, will choose two of these three games: Nebraska-Oklahoma, Kansas-Kansas State and Oklahoma State-Iowa State. Versus will broadcast the leftover game at 11:30 a.m."

We need to cover our jerseys with flint like oregon, so we can get that spark.

  11. With defenses becoming smaller and faster, I wouldn't be entirely surprised, in the next few years, to see teams try to take advantage of this and play a more power oriented offense.

There will always be a natural ebb and flow to the strategy of the game. Right now it just happens to be the spread, but I would not say it is a hoax, many a team has been very successful running it.

  12. Disclaimer: This is honest question, I don't claim this to be the case.

Double Disclaimer: I am not calling for either of these coaches heads.

I think of the two positions that have had the most trouble with the three legitimate opponents we have played. Arguably these positions are Quarterback, and Wide Receiver. Then I think of the two coaches the stayed on from the Callahan staff. These coaches are Shawn Watson, and Ted Gilmore. They happen to coach the Quarterbacks, and the Wide receivers. I don't know much about either of these coaches or their coaching style, which is why I want all you all's insight, so I wonder. Is this a coincidence? Or is there something to it?

A simple analogy to help you through this..

I can coach you all day long on the proper use and placement of an apostrophe. I CANNOT control your use and placement(or lack thereof) of an apostrophe as you post.

Think of coaching and performance in that context.

Okay, correct me if I am wrong. You are saying that the coaches can only coach, and motivate the players, but they cannot make the plays on the field.

However, (playing devils advocate), if you do a terrible job coaching up my usage of an apostrophe would you expect me to be able to use it properly? No, you would not, so I don't think you can reasonably exonerate the coaches from the product that is on the field.

This being said, I don't think you can definitively lay a significant amount of blame on the coaches, because as you say, they cannot make the plays on the field. That part is up to the players.
