  1. I still think the '06 tunnel walk vids with the contender theme were the best thing about the Callahan era. Every time I hear that song and imagine someone saying "I play for Nebraska", I get goosebumps. I wish we could just bring that back in some form, just make some minor adjustments so it doesn't get stale. The downside is that if they did that, we'd always be reminded in the back of our heads that it started during a period we'd like to forget.

I agree I still like watching those videos, the only thing that would make it better is to see Pelini leading them out instead of Callahan. If they went back to that I wouldn't even care that they started in the Callahan era, long as the era is over.

  2. Bah...I think all the players should come flying out of the tunnel...run full-speed to the opponent's bench, screaming at the top of their lungs the whole time, grab their Gatoraid cooler, dump it on the opposing HC's head, hurl the now empty cooler onto the field and then mob it, kicking the crap out of it all the way to the Husker bench where the first guy there takes a big dump in it, screws the lid back on and then presents it to the opposing team captains during the coin toss...

    Now THAT would be awe-inspiring....

Sounds like a winner, let's start the petition now.

  3. those are probably the most immature reasons to hate a team.

here's my reasons to hate those teams: disillusioned sense of grandeur. win something before you trash talk.

Does soundly thrashing the Huskers, ending years of fulitlity against us count? If so...

    ;)

I suppose that helps for the year you soundly thrashed the Huskers. But what good is that going to be when the years of futility start again the next year?

  4. yeah...all Eric Croch did was win that stupid Heisman trophy...

No denying that Crouch had talent at the college level, but in all honesty the only reason he won the heisman is because Grossman was a sophmore. I don't know if Newcombe would have been any better but both of those guys clearly had ego problems. Crouch is still doing what he did in college quitting and going home each time he is not a starter. The only difference is no one is chasing after him asking him to come back like Solich did.

  5. How about Mike Grant? I don't know if he is the most overhyped, but he didn't even come close to living up to his hype. I remember him whining about getting pulled after the 1st quarter, I don't remember for sure but I think he was saying something to the effect that he needed more then one quarter to get going.

  6. I'm not going to be surprised in the least to see Lee beat out Ganz this offseason. It will be tough, because the team is behind Ganz and absolutely loves that guy. But the only true ability where Ganz has an advantage over Lee is how he knows the playbook inside and out. Lee, OTOH, gives us an advantage in how he will be able to stretch the field and the amount of zip he will be able to get on balls.

    Will be interesting to watch.

Having the team behind you and knowing the playbook inside and out are some pretty good things to have in your corner when going for the starting job. I think Ganz looked pretty good last year and certainly had some mobility to help pick up some yards. I would agree with anyone who said his decision making was questionable at times, but I don't know if Lee would be any better. I think the competition this spring will be a good one to watch but I think Ganz will end up starting this year.

  7. Just read the article about the Pope John High School football team winning the class D-1 state title tonight at Memorial Stadium. This was the last quote in the article from their coach P.J. Book

“Defense has been the heart and soul of the Crusaders’ program for 13 years. What wins games is defense and not turning the ball over,” said Book. “They know that and take pride in defense. They knock the heck out of each other in practice all week, so playing in the games is just a continuation of that.”

Seems like this guy and team understands the importance of a good defense :-)

Isn't this what Jason Peter was talking about on his blog? I remember him writing something to the effect that the Blackshirts pounded each other all week and that is why they were so physical on Saturday. He was writing about how he was surprised the current defense does not practice much in pads.

  8. I happen to think that LSU is highly overrated with one loss, and 3 near loses. Being a Florida grad I am reminded that last years champions team had even more close calls. To that I say, last years team, BCS Championship game aside, struggled. I couldn't watch a single game on replay during the summer outside the BCS and the SEC games because they were sad to watch. This begs the question of who you think the 5 worst title winners are going back to 1992 (when I started college). – JF

A: You're being way too hard on the 2007 Gators. It was a good team that had an all-timer of a championship performance, but yeah, it has to be in the mix of worst champions since 1992. 1984 BYU and the 1990 combination of Georgia Tech and Colorado are the most recent entries in the worst national champions, but if we’re talking since 1992, my five worst national champions would be ...

    1) 1997 Michigan. This was before the Big Ten was a true part of the BCS equation. Michigan didn’t have to play any SEC team in a year with several killers, and it didn’t have to deal with a nasty Nebraska team that would’ve won a true national title game by three touchdowns. This was a very, very good Wolverine team, but there were better in 1997.

    2) 2007 Florida. The team rose up to dominate in the national championship, and the defense was a killer, but the offense was too inconsistent. This turned out to be the best team in a lousy overall year for college football.

    3) 1994 Nebraska. The 1995 team was one of the greatest of all-time. The 1994 team was fine, but was basically handed the national title over Penn State because it was Tom Osborne’s turn. The Huskers beat a good Colorado team, and that’s about it.

    4) 1998 Tennessee. The Peyton Manning teams were better, but couldn’t get by Florida. A juggernaut of an Ohio State team, that got screwed over by Florida State in the polls, would’ve beaten these Vols.

    5) 1996 Florida. Merry Christmas, Spurrier. The only way the Gators were able to win the national title was because it got a rematch against a Florida State team that won the first time around, and got help from Arizona State losing in the last minute to Ohio State in the Rose Bowl.

Sorry I have to disagree on the '94 Nebraska team. They played a very good Miami team in Miami after their home winning streak had been broken by Washington. That team was on a mission to not let it happen again that year. I would say the '94 team was better then '97.

  9. Ty did get screwed because of his race though......

Ty did get screwed no doubt, I will hold off on saying it was because of his race since I don't know any inside details. I do think that Whitlock has a good point in that Weis got a contract extension for doing less then what Ty had done in his first year. Of course he got a massive contract extension.

  10. See previous thread with ESPN article about how Charlie embraced the ND tradition, while BC did all he could to forget Nebraska tradition...I think it was by Ivan Maisel...that is the key difference and the reason BC is under more heat...

Very true, I think Bill would not be under the gun so much and even Pederson would still be AD if they didn't all but try and erase Husker football before Callahan.

  11. I was reading an article by Jason Whitlock who is hammering Notre Dame when it comes to Charlie Weis. He had a comment about Weis being lucky he doesn't coach in Lincoln:

Teflon Charlie better be glad he doesn't coach at Nebraska, because fans of that legendary program have no problem identifying bad coaching. When Mark Mangino's band of two-star Kansas recruits smacked Bill Callahan's four-star All-Americans with 76 points, Callahan had to answer immediate questions about his impending resignation.

Apparently Whitlock feels there should be more heat on Charlie then there currently is. I just thought it was interesting that he doesn't feel Weis would be as fortunate in Huskerland.

    Here is the full article

  12. Just another reason why Nebraska fans aren't "the greatest fans in college football". They are pretty average IMO.

It's sad to say but i have to agree 100%. It used to be that our fans wouldn't pull this crap, now we are like everyone else...I think that's the GREATEST downfall of this program...

From what I read it seems it is mostly students who are doing this, that does not make it right though. The parents of those kids need to get on them and let them know that kind of behavior is not tolerated. Of course it certainly doesn't help that we have some idiot fans talking trash to the Husker players and that example gets put on the news.

There is no doubt it is sad what is going on this year with the football team, but what saddens me even more is how some fans have dealt with it. As much as everyone talks about how Callahan's era has tarnished Husker tradition, those fans have tarnished Husker tradition far worse with their behavior then Callahan ever could. They have made it so Husker fans will be known as the best fans in the country (as long as they are winning).

  13.

That field was COVERED with sh#t. It wasn't "5" students, it was the whole f'ing student section.

While I agree that some of the stories I read on this board sound blown out of proportion, or just seem to be false exaggerations, I know that visiting fans are treated much better in Lincoln than what I saw in Lawrence yesterday. I lived by Memorial stadium for 2 years, and walked all throughout the north bottoms before and after almost every home game during that stretch of time. I've been going to NU games my entire life, and I have never seen a Nebraska fan so much as verbally harrass another fan for no reason. Obviously I don't see everything that happens when 85,000 people go to a game, but considering the amount of time that I have spent in that atmosphere, having never seen any disrespect by Nebraska fans says a lot about our fan base.

Now proceed to call me a pu&&y or whatever it is you Puffs like to do when somebody calls out your snobby fan base for acting like retards.

"COVERED", eh? Watch for yourself, just after the 4 minute mark of the video:

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FS-iBSGviHw

I don't know about you, but I see a lot more field than garbage in that video. Looks like about 5 pieces of crap to me... on our sideline that is, clearly the 5 pieces of crap on Nebraska's side of the field were wearing headsets, you guys just hadn't realized it yet

WOW, that video was the best you had? While I saw garbage being thrown on the field I also saw people clearing it as it came flying on the field, and I guess you must live in some fantasy land that makes you believe that the only garbage thrown on the field was during the short time the cameras were on the stands and no garbage was thrown before or after. I think the only thing sadder then fans acting like a bunch of retards, is someone actually trying to downplay such behavior. As far as I am concerned you have just spoken volumes for CU fans.
