  1. If you get beat out by a kid who wasn't even recruited to play quarterback, than that is all on you.

First, I agree that this rumor is bullcrap.

Second, Martinez was certianly recruited as a QB first. The coaches knew he could play another position if it didn't work out at QB.

Go back and read his recruiting articles.

Specifically, the kid was recruited as an athlete.

Even more specifically, he was recruited by the coaches with the idea of playing on defense. But, he said all along that if a chance at quarterback arose than he would want a fair shot.

Uh, I follow recruiting quite a bit, especially since Bo took over. The problem is, Rivals is wrong, because they didn't report the whole story. The "athlete" part is what he was designated by the recruiting service. Green started out as an athlete as well.

It was quite known that he was coming in as a QB first on Scout. So, yes, he had the option to play D if it didn't work out, but he certainly was being brought in as a QB first.

  2. Direct quote from Taylor Martinez per rivals.

"He said they still don't know which side of the ball they're going to play me on when I get to Lincoln. It will probably be safety but I'll play wherever they want me. I just want to be able to help the team out."

    LINK

    Another quote from Martinez.

"I talked to coach Watson, the quarterbacks coach, and I talked to him about playing quarterback," Martinez said. "When I get out there, I'm going to start at quarterback and if I don't work out with that, I'll move over to safety."

    LINK

As you can see, we are both right. Originally, he was recruited as a DB. Switched to QB before joining the team.

And I specifically know of conversations on the Scout RZ board about him being talked about as QB FIRST. DB was the backup plan. He may have been labeled as an "athlete" but that's because he COULD play multiple positions.

  3. I think Tim Tebow won a few awards at the college level in the SEC no less, yet he's the third string QB behind Brady Quinn in the NFL. Previously accolades can mean very little when one moves up to the next level. Especially at quarterback. Remember, Martinez wasn't even recruited to play QB.

Please stop with this myth. It's entirely untrue.

  4. I was really hoping for a night game. Bummer.

This isn't “official," but it's about as close as you can get concerning TV coverage of Big 12 football and kickoff times.

The Oct. 16 Texas at Nebraska game is on track to be televised on ABC at 2:30 p.m.

“That's the most likely scenario," a person with direct knowledge of the situation said Friday.

That deep into the season, the Big 12 television partners pick either 12 days or six days before a game, and slot them into morning, afternoon or evening windows. Those parameters will apply to Texas-Nebraska.

But here's why ABC at 2:30 p.m. looks like the spot:

    • Many fans assumed the game would be played in prime time. But ABC is committed to showing NASCAR's Bank of America 500 in Charlotte, N.C., at 6:30 that night.

    • There is no crossover ESPN evening window available to the Big 12 that night.

    • ABC has very few 11 a.m. national windows this season, and it has given no notice that it would open such a spot on Oct. 16.

That leaves ABC with its 2:30 p.m. time slot with the first selection, and Texas-Nebraska is clearly the Oct. 16 game of the day.

Again, it's not official. Don't schedule your wedding around it. But 2:30 p.m. looks like the time.

    http://www.omaha.com/article/20100827/BIGRED/708279855#best-guess-2-30-kickoff-for-texas-nu

Ummmmmm......... So this game is gonna go against Michigan/Iowa and be a regional telecast game!!!!???!!!? Nice way to go Big 12.

Also on the Big 12 TV schedule it says the ESPN windows are flexible and can be moved. Im not saying Lee is wrong or I am right, but this doesnt sound right at all.

    college football tv schedule

    big 12 tv windows

    This.

"Sources suggest that a 2:30 pm kickoff time is the most likely scenario for the Nebraska/Texas football game, according to Lee Barfknecht of the Omaha World-Herald. But while I don't completely dismiss a 2:30 pm kickoff, I tend to lean against it, unless Nebraska loses to Washington or Kansas State.

Barfknecht's sources admit that ABC hasn't given any indication that they will be opening an 11 am kickoff window for October 16th, but you can read that both ways. ABC is leaving their options open, and likely won't make any decision until October...maybe not even until the Kansas State game.

    ..."

  5. did green play the entire first quarter? i thought he played a series or so. my statement was mostly a joke because i thought that situation was unfair to green, and lee for that matter.

He played until the 2nd quarter when Lee came in and threw the TD pass. I believe we had -3 yards at the end of the first quarter.

  6. I'm thinking that KW is probably hurt or dinged up. Not sure how much, but Bo doesn't really release this info to the public, correct?

Keith Williams was at practice and gave interviews to the media afterward on Tue. No mention of an injury of any kind.

Bingo. Even when asked directly, Bo said he was fine and hadn't missed a single snap.

Once again, the "insiders" on Huskers Illustrated were wrong.

  7. Without knowing the particulars of a situation, it's hard to say why it would be unlikely. I don't doubt that plenty of guys in the program have questioned their commitment or thought about quitting or leaving at one point. Even Suh did. And Okafor, didn't he quit and then return? I don't think Bo will take this hard line with kids who have been in the program. He'll give them chances.

This is what a Rivals insider mentioned, so I think it actually is more likely to be correct than not. I take their opinions and projections with a grain of salt, but on the facts, they probably have the right info more often than not.

Rivals insiders have been known to be as correct as many of the posters here, so that doesn't give me much hope that this is true. You've got a good point about Okafor, though. That puts a hole in my logic, doesn't it?

Bingo. The "Rivals" insiders are responsible for so many bogus rumors over the last couple of years, it's pathetic. The real doozie was the Carl Pelini one. Once that happened, I wrote them off. That place is filled with a bunch of pretentious a-holes.

  8.

Did some hunting and gathering and here is what I found:

Martinez did in fact quit on his team that Friday he missed practice. That is where the UCLA rumors began. He has since then come on strong and had a terrific week. Cody Green has had an excellent camp as well. Zac Lee has done everything that the coaches have asked him to do and has had a great camp.

What I would say is that nothing has really changed. Except the race has become tighter.

I highly... highly doubt this. If Taylor had quit , he would have been shown the door.

    Just like Collins Okafor right?

Just like Chris Williams, Jon Levorson, and Mason Wald, right?

  10. HI insider posted this morning that someone on the D-Line (not in the 2-deep) is out with a knee.

Didn't see this posted. Mods, feel free to lock, delete and/or move as necessary.

Considering the ban on guests and media at practices, I find this hard to believe.

I wouldn't disagree with you, but would add that this guy routinely posts privy information (most of the time after being directly asked by other members) and his word is generally accepted as truth without further evidence by the rest of the board. He's reliable.

Because unless Bo Pelini or one of the coaches told him directly (and they want to lose their jobs) he's going to be hard pressed for actual info. Honestly, HI needs to clamp down, at least for the short term, on this kind of stuff. It seems that many of the untrue rumors originate from there, and frankly, they are largely to blame for this latest fiasco.

    This is over already

Um, no it's not. They're allowed back tomorrow...

  12. I need your help. As some of you may know, I live in the Tampa Bay area, and am a member of the Tampa Bay Huskers board. There's an individual (who has visited the watchsite) using our name to procure "donations" from websites. He's now spreading false info on other message boards, and I need to know what he posted.

    Link to thread.

If you could P.M. me the thread info, it would be of GREAT help.

You can sign up for a 7 day trial and you'll be able to get it. Are you Tony?

Thanks, but I already got the info I needed, and no, I am not Tony.

  13. I guarantee that Shatel, Sherman, Sipple, Christopherson, or Barfnecht did not call Fisher's family. These guys feed their own families by putting Husker football content in their papers. They certainly aren't selling papers or attracting on-line advertisers with Blue Jay basketball or Lincoln Stars coverage.\

Of course they didn't. But I guarantee that there were interns told to "look into this."

  14. Sorry, I don't buy it.

Pelini said he was upset with reporters who called Fisher’s family and high school coach to get confirmation of the injury.

“The kid was still on the (operating) table last night, and people were calling the family,” he said. “That’s crossing the line.”

Maybe they should have "thought about the fans" before they pulled this garbage.

  15. I thought it was directly related to the fights? Sounds like Pelini had them all doing pencil rolls or something and didn't want the media to see his recreation of the pie scene in "Stand by Me"

    Why did you think that?

Well per a rivals article I can't say too much, but it said their was some punishment being doled out. Bo said it was for a different reason, but you have to take whatever he's saying about practice (especially now) with a grain of salt.

That is just the idiots at HI covering their asses. It was some retard on their site that started this mess, and they didn't lock it down (like they should have) so they could "break" the story.

  16. Anyone else see that it still says Wear Red - October 16th 2010 - Be Loud at the top of the page between Red out around the world slogan ???

That wasn't the issue. The issue was that it said, "Wear Red. Be Loud. Beat Texas."

Apparently Texas Fan got all chapped because it seemed like we intended to beat them, and they find this offensive. :dunno

Nonetheless, still seems like we are "calling" them out again. IMO

We aren't "calling" anyone out. That's the day that the red out is planned for.
