  1. ... besides every notre dame game the they pimp...

    Virginia Tech at Nebraska

Last September, when Bo Pellini was the curator of national champion LSU's defense, the Tigers destroyed Virginia Tech 48-7. This September Pellini, now the head coach of a Cornhusker team that finished 114th in scoring defense in 2007, will have his work cut out for him.

The Huskers are at least a couple of seasons away from being a BCS threat, but with no real challenges in-conference (Is the ACC the worst of the BCS conferences?), they and their Red Sea throng pose the greatest threat to Frank Beamer's BCS hopes.

"Is the ACC the worst of the BCS conferences?"

does anyone pay attention to the big 10 (plus 1)?

I think his point is that the ACC is like 1-7 in BCS games?

  2. All of USF's losses last season were to teams that had very good downhill running between the tackles, and IMO, Kansas won't have that this year.

Pick #25 of round 1, Mike Jenkins, might have had something to with that:

Regarded as one of the nation's premier shutdown pass defenders, Jenkins teamed with Trae Williams to give the Bulls an outstanding cornerback combination.

Along with free safety Nate Allen and strong safety Carlton Williams, South Florida's secondary combined for 131 starts at USF.

The Bulls ranked eighth in the nation in passing efficiency defense (105.27 rating) in 2007 after ranking 11th nationally in 2006 (104.26) and 16th (109.38) in 2005, thanks largely to the performance of their right cornerback.

It was tough to throw on them last year, but they lost both starting CBs. Trae Williams is now with the Jaguars.

OTOH Both the safeties are back, and at least one expert has USF in the top 10. (KU is missing thus far. I'm not sure why folks think USF will have an easier time replacing their All-American CB than Kansas will.)

Yes Williams and Jenkins are gone, but they also got Nate Allen back at safety/nickel and with Ben moffit gone, Tyrone McKenzie will blow it up at MLB. If, and I mean IF, they can get a decent running attack from Ben Williams or Mike Ford, Grothe won't be required to run as much and take the beating that he does. They do that, and they'll win the Big East.

  3. I think you have KU nailed down pretty good. I can see them 9-3 to 8-4. With a little luck, they'll be better than that. If Reesing gets put out for the season, then I guess 5-7 is conceivable.

They're going 5-7...bank on it. Reesing goes down in game 5 of the season....broken leg when he is "accidently" tripped by the yard marker.... :dunno

Let us have our day, Cy, don't hurt the Todd. Let the sun shine on our ass for a while...

LOL. Cy is still mad over the 45-7 beat down we gave ISU last year. I just tune him out. Alot of people are saying 9-3 or 8-4, but I just don't see us losing to either Texas squad, and USF doesn't scare me. Reesing is undefeated in the state of florida. I hope we beat Missouri this year, but it will be tough. If we're healthy then we have a chance, if we're not, then it will be tough. I'll stick by 10-2...heck, I was the only Hawk fan to predict 9-3 last year and I was ridiculed and laughed at on every board. I guess I was wrong...I didn't have them going 12-1.

Kansas will go down at USF, bank on it.

Well, I had to look to see if USF has Grothe back, which they do. Plus it's in their house. That being the case I say USF wins a close one. KU is a well coached and probably more disciplined team, but I think USF is out to really substantiate their legitimacy, moreso than KU, and they have a load of talent on that team.....USF wins.

I have a tough time getting a read on KU. I think they CAN win any of their tough games, though they probably won't. They will also drop a game they shouldn't--say CU--plus I think Big Red will whoop 'em outta revenge. So I put the Manginos in the 8-9 win category.

I think we get USF, but I am not going to say I am sure of it. They have done a lot with their program, they have some good players and they are at home. I think they have done way too much themsleves for me to do more than just say I think we will probably win. They showed last year, they are good and can beat really good teams, so it will be what it will be.... I would predict we will be a slight favorite, by a couple of points at most, and that is probably a fair spread.

We'll beat USF. We have the right mind set and experience back to get the job done. KU will be 6-0 before their trip to Norman. You can count on that. I guess I'll just have to come back on here and tell everyone told ya so when it happens.

    JGS30 Out! :box

  5. I'm actually quite surprised this will be aired on TV. I was worried that it wouldn't get picked up on PPV, but this is even more awesome!! Now...FSN just needs to get their shiz together and start up a Hi-def channel by the start of football season.

They do, it just depends who you provider is.

  6. You"re best GBR team this year can be 8-3.

I think you can loose to TexTech - first road game and then they have high a high importnent offense. So that can count as 1.

I don"t see how GBR can defeat OU yet. That can count as 2.

Plus also I count 3 as the TAR Tiger"s. Even is it"s in you"re best stadium with full attention of GBR fans. This can be true test for the Tiger"s.

All other games you can win: you can have my okay to pound a crap out of KU & KSU if you wish.

I know you don"t like CU to much, so crap pound them at you"re stadium,to.

I think VT will not enjoy this Lincoln trip, so they might crap on themself to save you the troubles before the game start. I saw a video of GBR at full attention of you say over 80,000 and how can they not crap themselfs? This is a big advantge you have built in NU or GBR as you say.

All other game not listed can only be lost if you overlook.

    TuffTiger says = GBR 2008 as 8-3.

    :moreinteresting

    Tuff Tiger

One slight problem, we play twelve games, not eleven.

  7. Sporting News has us as one of the top 5 teams on the rise, however, this quote was absolutely alarming.

"How bad was the dysfunction? Consider this anecdote:

Former coach Bill Callahan was obsessive about his offense; he made the game plan and called the plays. Sources say before the Texas game -- and at the height of Nebraska's failures -- Callahan let his assistants build the game plan and said he wouldn't call one play.

After the first series, Callahan not only called every offensive play, he called the defensive sets, too. The Huskers gave up three touchdowns in the fourth quarter and lost, 28-25. Then they allowed 172 points over their final three games."

  8. There's really some validity to what he's saying. I'm not sure I agree with all of it. What I see happening is that the majority opinion is that Bo is going to do amazing things at Nebraska, and suggestions to the contrary aren't well tolerated. It was the same last off-season when everyone was drinking the BC kool-aid.

    More Bo-aid, please.

I think bo will do great things here, just not this year. i think we will struggle this year with 8 wins being the absolute top. I think bo is fair and playing the right guys. I guess my disappointment is in the fact that neither witt or lee is ready. I think both are more gifted than ganz. i dont think ganz is very good so i had hoped to see one of the 2 ready to go. Ganz will make many mistakes and is not a QB to take a team on his shoulders and will them to victory. IMO Believe me I hope I am way wrong

Well he may not be the next Steve Young, But the doesn't have to be. Football is still a team sport and the best quarterback ever couldn't win a single game if he had to do it by himself.

A mediocre quarterback with a solid team around him however, can do great things. For example Trent Dilfer when he won a superbowl with Tampa Bay. Mediocre Quarterback, but still had a decent team around him.... voila- I give you Lombardi.

Joey's pretty good. He should do fine.

It was brad johnson, not trent dilfer. And you are right, they won because of their stellar defense.

  9. On the topic of fan gear, does anyone know where to get personalized authentic jerseys? Usually the university releases 1 or 2 numbers per year as authentic jerseys (ex: 5 and 9 this year), then you have to take them to a third-party to get them embroidered.

I've found it impossible to find a real authentic jersey with the numbers I want (#55 Peter, #27 Fryar, etc...). I have found replica jerseys with stitched on numbers, but they aren't true authentics.

What's the difference in the different types?

    For instance:

    You have the "Authentic" replica.

    The "Replica."

    And finally, the "Authentic" Jersey.

  10. I just bought a St.Patrick's day husker shirt and got to thinking. Where are some of the best places to buy online for some of us geographically challenged people. I cant go anywhere without looking at OU and OSU bs, its ridiculous. So, id like to hear opinions.

Just google, "husker apparel", there are a lot of places to order from. I personally have used the Big Red Bookstore, to get a little jersey for my son for his 1st B-Day just a few weeks ago. Their delivery was really fast. Hope this helps.

Just bought some stuff from there. Thanks!!!!

    The jerseys are cheap!!!!!
