  1. Colorado (3-4 overall, 0-1 Big 12) at #4 Nebraska (9-1 overall, 1-0 Big 12) When: Saturday, September 18th, 7pm CT Where: NU Coliseum, Lincoln, Nebraska TV: NET (local only) Video Webcast: CLICK HERE Audio Webcast: CLICK HERE Live Stats: CLICK HERE Colorado was swept by Oklahoma in their conference opener in Boulder on Wednesday. Head coach Liz Kritza begins a complete rebuilding job with Colorado volleyball with 11 freshmen and 5 new transfers on the team this season. There are no Nebraskans on the roster, but transfer setter Michelle Miller's family lives close to me in Round Rock, Texas. She played club ball with Austin Juniors and transferred to Colorado this season after playing last year at Sam Houston State. She was on the Austin Juniors 17 team that won the U.S. Junior Nationals. She also played on the Round Rock HS team under head coach Diane Watson, who has coached my daughter in club clinics. Of course I'll be rooting for the Huskers, but way to go, Michelle!
  2. Lincoln to Dallas is very driveable. I wouldn't even bother flying that. I've driven from Austin to Lincoln a couple of dozen times.
  3. Huskers win S4 28-26 to win the match 3-1. It's a win but too many service errors and some poor passing at times.
  4. OK, I went to the 2006 game in College Station with an Aggie student, and sat right in the middle of the student section. I wore a red Husker shirt and even took my cornhead. It was totally cool. A little good-natured ribbing, but I probably ended up in a bunch of Facebook profiles with as many pictures as people wanted to take with me (in cornhead, of course). It was a great game, with the miraculous drive ending with Purify's catch at the end of the game. Even though it was a hard loss for Aggie fans, and they all thought Purify pushed off on that final play, nobody screwed with me at any point after the game. Went to grab a burger at Koppe Bridge after the game and partied with a bunch of Aggies. I'd go in Husker red without hesitation.
  5. BTW, Nebraska is letting Iowa State use the court for the rest of the season since no more matches will be played at Devaney Center. The Ames High School gym is lined for basketball, with extra white lines to mark volleyball dimensions. This will be a big improvement.
  6. Here is a picture of Nebraska's Devaney Center sport court set up in the Ames High School gym:
  7. #4 Nebraska (8-1 overall, 0-0 Big 12) at #11 Iowa State (7-1, 0-0 Big 12) When: Wednesday, September 15th, 7pm CT Where: Ames High School, Ames, Iowa TV: ESPNU Video Webcast: NONE Audio Webcast: CLICK HERE Live Stats: CLICK HERE Conference competition kicks off this week and the Huskers will be tested against #11 Iowa State in a match to be nationally televised on ESPNU. The match will be played in the Ames High School because the August flooding in Iowa damaged Hilton Coliseum. I heard today that they are borrowing the sport court that Nebraska uses at Devaney to make it more appealing for national TV. Nebraska leads the all-time series 77-1, with Iowa State's only win coming in Lincoln last season, but head coach Christy Johnson-Lynch, who was the setter on Nebraska's 1995 National Championship team, has done a great job building this program. The Cyclones have not lost a match since their opener against Florida, and swept nationally-ranked Northern Iowa last weekend. The Cyclones' defense can frustrate opponents, and libero Ashley Mass is one of the very best in the country and was a first team All-American last season. OH Victoria Henson was also an All-American last year (third team). OH Rachel Hockaday, who had 18 kills against the Huskers in the Cyclones' victory last year, is out for the season with a torn ACL. Nebraskans on the Iowa State roster OH Carly Jenson, Omaha, Nebraska (Millard North HS) DS Caitlin Mahoney, Omaha, Nebraska (Marian HS) MB/RS Tenisha Matlock, North Platte, Nebraska (North Platte HS) RS Kelsey Petersen, Kearney, Nebraska (Kearney HS) MB Jamie Straube, Tecumseh, Nebraska (Johnson County Central HS) Head coach Christy Johnson-Lynch, Omaha, Nebraska (Millard North HS, University of Nebraska) Cristy Johnson (left) holding up the National Championship trophy for the 1995 Nebraska Cornhuskers, after beating Texas in four sets (also in picture: Allison Weston and Billie Winsett)
  8. I'm still pissed about that first loss to KC Medics. Damn refs.
  9. We moved up to #4 behind Stanford, Penn State, and Florida. Penn State still got two #1 votes even after getting swept by Stanford. That's about par for the course with the AVCA poll, LOL.
  10. 12-25, 21-25, 25-22, 25-14, 16-14. Nebraska comes back from a 0-2 deficit.
