Could be true. He pays his fines, he's allowed to go free.

There's a quote out there from a Chicago city official that basically says the public is not in danger from Jussie Smollett, so they're letting it go. Says he's not exonerated.

I could see Smollett coming up with some hare-brained scheme to "raise awareness" or whatever the goal was, just to be a drama queen maybe, and it gets way out of hand because when you allege this kind of assault, it turns out the police are going to fully investigate it. Weird, right?!?!?  So they do, they find out it's a hoax, and some prosecutor slaps all those allegations on him.  Someone with a cooler head says, hey - we don't need to go this far against this guy. Just give him time served & forfeit all his bail money.

And that's how it ends. Smollett claims vindication, the DA doesn't waste resources prosecuting a fake case, and life goes on.

Agreed. As you said, Smollett could easily fall on the "raising awareness" card and he's already played the victim card through his press release. The city is really in a no win situation, as you stated they know he's not a harm to anyone and if they throw the book at him they'd probably end up being painted in a worse light by those that have stood in Jussie's corner this whole time. They'll use this decision to say that he was innocent, but hopefully most will see through the B.S. Wash your hands of the situation and move on to more pressing matters.

  2. What a weird, weird case. I have a hard time believing that he was completely 100% innocent, given all the mounting evidence that seemed stacked against him and really, just the fact that I find it extremely implausible two white racist were on a witch hunt at 2:00 AM during one of the coldest nights on record in Chicago. It seems like some sort of deal was struck and many didn't want to touch a very serious / sensitive topic that is prosecuting a gay black man. I'd be willing to wager with that more so than the CPD making huge mistakes.

It is an inside joke on the show. A caller during one of the Big Red Overreaction segments called Gary, “Gary Franklin Sharp” because his middle name starts with a “F”. Damon and others (like guest hosts and weekly interviewees) call Gary that as a lighthearted term of endearment.

    In that case I’m a F(reaking) idiot.

I rarely listen to S&B, but when I have, I’ve heard the “Franklin” references — what’s that all about?  I’ve never understood it.  (Not that I care, but since you brought it up ...)

He uses the term towards his co-host when he’s trying to make a point. To me, it just comes off as immature, belittling and very unbecoming.

I can't wait for DB to completely avoid going into any kind of detail on tomorrow's show.

That would be the pot calling the kettle black, wouldn't it.

Edit: the fact that Damon is 'actually' black, is irrelevant to the metaphor.

    LOL.

Khi is one of my favorite Wr prospects that I have ever watched. I'll say it, he reminds me of Odell Beckham Jr. He plays the exact same way. Khi is the total package. Remember, kids will leave Louisiana, and I think Nebraska has more to sell on O than any program in that conference near by. Khi would be a perfect fit.

Yeah, kids that don’t get LSU offers. For example, SMJ. If LSU wants him, I highly doubt honey badger’s cousin goes elsewhere. Would love to say I’m wrong, but highly doubt it.

If he had referred to him as a gorilla or a monkey, I can understand. But this is ridiculous. No one who calls someone King Kong is saying someone is like a gorilla or a monkey. They're saying they're big and powerful and terrorizing the other team.

There was a tennis announcer that had to step down because he used the term guerrilla to describe one of the WIlliam's sisters style of play. Of course, many were adamant he was using the word gorilla. But if you go back and listen to the audio, grammatically you can tell 100% he was using guerrilla. So much so that ESPN settled with him out of court, since he was terminated immediately.

Edit: not to mention Nike ran a guerrilla tennis campaign in 95, apparently the phrase was in the lexicon of most tennis professionals.

What are the feelings about candidates Harris/Warren/Castro speaking in favor of reparations for slavery? This stance marks a shift from past election cycles when it has come up...

Feel like it is political grandstanding. Nothing more, nothing less.

From what I have found during my life...most people are pretty decent...most people don't do s#!t like this.

    Agreed.

I'm not saying there aren't racist out there - obviously there are. But it takes a special kind of person to be this big of a jackass in person. Lot easier to be a tough guy/gal when hiding behind a keyboard.

I'm only seeing that 2 men were arrested. Do you have a link to where there's evidence that the attack was staged?

Mosaic theory here, but the two individuals were extras on the show Empire. I highly doubt that two men from Nigeria would be staunch supporters of Trump. However, I now read that they have been released, based on new evidence from the interviews, and this investigation will now turn to a line-up. Seems highly unlikely that Smollett will be able to accurately pick out people from a lineup if he couldn't give a great description from the get-go. Again, don't want to assume, but based off all the facts provided so far this seems more hoax like/ nefarious than an actual event.

Golly, Jussie maybe because you haven't been super straightforward with the whole investigation?

He's going to angle this as some sort of victim blaming/shaming I'm sure.

Edit: the number of ads on that page makes it almost unable to read. I kept scrolling thinking there was more to the story.

    Edit again: called it.

I'm honestly trying not to have this thought go through my mind.....but, I'm failing in those efforts.

I don't want to not believe him.  But...come on....you would thinks something would have been found on a security camera in the area somewhere.

I feel bad thinking it isn't true, because I don't want to be seen as protecting a racist or discrediting a black man. But in this situation and at this time, I just am unable to come to any other conclusion.

However, if it isn't true, shame on him because it will discredit future hate crimes and the media or far right wingers will be able to say, "nuh, uh, this is just another Jussie Smollett incident." Again, if not true, I think the police / FBI should reprimand him because each time there is a reported fake hate crime, it limits future progress. I know in Texas alone there have been a few notorious instances in the last couple of years. There was a gay pastor who tampered with a whole foods cake and wrote something to the extend of "God hates f*gs" after purchasing the cake. Luckily, security cameras could prove this wasn't the case. Then there was an El Paso waiter who wrote a fake tip note. These cases deflect the actual severity of hate crimes.

That's funny, because I was just thinking that when I came into this thread this morning. The way the page jumps around when it loads, it landed on this and I thought, "What ever happened to this?"

You'd have thought there would be some movement on this by now. Some suspects, something.  But it's been a while since we heard anything.

We've seen fake attack claims in the past, and we've seen claims that appear to be fake that turned out to actually happen. I'll wait and see what the police come up with before making a judgment, but this story raises questions.

    Agreed.

I'm not saying that this country is perfect and that we don't have racist individuals roaming around. But to me, there are several red flags including the point you just made -cops have made little progress in two weeks. I just have a hard time believing that two neo-nazis were strolling around downtown Chicago, at 2 AM in the morning, with a noose and could point out an individual from Empire. Not only that, they used a small hot sauce container to "dowse" him in bleach? Then, this small container was found two weeks later by the NY Post?
