Bringing in positive examples to communicate and reinforce to the players that certain ways of behaving and working can help them achieve their goals is a good thing. Doing a bunch of "Back in my day we actually worked hard and kids these days are all weenies," is a bad thing. I don't know which it is but hopefully its the former.

Yesterday (March 1st) during his normal segment on Severe & Benning, Jay Foreman explained what his role is and why he's doing it.  Essentially, he outline your former point as his main purpose.  He expressed that he was lucky enough to have some former husker players (from the 80's) give him some life advice while he was playing.  He said he wants to give back to the program by offering up his life experiences and make himself available to them as a resource.

Obviously, it's probably easier to just listen to what he said rather than read a brief synopsis from some random board member.  He starts talking about it at the 4:20 mark:

I think you took my use of the word “forced” a tad too literally.

If we can agree that words matter, then I apologize for getting after your post. I say words matter bc had you used a different word, I would read your post much differently.

Or, maybe I’m just appreciating the fact that the players did stick it out even though the circumstances were far from ideal...

I’m really not sure why my post seemed to rub you the wrong way.

I think it’s pretty obvious to most everyone that Frost didn’t have these guys locked in cages and held at gun point on the sidelines.  Geesh!

I thought it was obvious, too. That's why I was pointing out that I don't agree that they were forced to play 9 games in 9 weeks. I, too, appreciate the players putting in effort and playing through adversity this season. I just think it does then a disservice if we (as fans) insinuate that they did it for any other reason than the fact that they wanted to.  That was my point.

That part of the presser was saddening to listen to.  It's no wonder this season hasn't matched up to a lot of teams expectations.

Basically the players have been away from home/family since March and in football limbo until October.  Then forced to play 9 games in 9 weeks but knowing the games could be canceled at any minute.  Ant THEN asked to stay around for another week, through Christmas, just in case they have to play.  I wouldn't be surprised if many players on the team need a good counselor before they are ready to go for Spring ball...

We're the players forced? I'm going to call BS on that. Any player could have opted out of playing at any point this season. Not to mention that every player on this team expressed that they wanted to play football. Seems like you're trying to start some narrative that the University/coaching staff was coercing the team to play. If an that's the case, please provide some evidence... Otherwise, miss me with that trash.

If you're trying to say the B1G was awful in its planning for this season and did its teams no favors...well, then I agree with that. But, I still don't see the players being forced into anything since they were always free to opt out.

I don't see a reason why he'd leave.  Luke isn't going to gain arm strength overnight and the way he throws the ball and appearance of his throws tells me that's a major limitation that no coaching or mechanic adjustment will fix. If he is really thinking he has to leave for a better opportunity I'd be shocked if there was a legit P5 team available that would be a good fit that also didn't have quality competition already in the QB room.

If I'm Adrian, I see Luke as a spark plug of a guy who got his chance and proved he can't move the needle with his arm.  I'd be shocked if he's even contemplating a move elsewhere- he's got a massive opportunity to win this job for good, he just needs to avoid his dud of performances like the start of the NW game

I guess I was more going off of some of the talk from Damon Benning and Gary Sharpe on 1620.  DB has been saying for two weeks that he hoped AM would be able to move past (emotionally and mentally) being benched for LMC.  Then, I believe it was Tuesday, Sharpe was talking about AM making the remaining games his audition for the transfer portal.  I don't know if either of them were talking from a position of knowledge, or if they were just speaking on their own gut feelings.

I am just gun shy because of all of the players we've seen leave this program over the last two years.  I'm not saying that I'm down on those players leaving.  Players who leave because they have no foresight, patience, or feel entitled are better off going elsewhere.  People who don't want to be here will only hurt this team, so I say "have a good life".  It's really like trying to convince a significant other to stay in a relationship...they may stay, but the relationship will never be solid and is pretty much a lame duck.  It's just better for everyone to move on and find happiness.

Ultimately, it probably really depends on how the coaches handled it in-house over the last two or three weeks.  If it was handled appropriately, I think AM takes that as a chip on his shoulder and hopefully it translates into better play on the field.

  6. Not sure if anyone else noticed this, but I would say Adrian's attitude seems to have evolved quite a bit over the course of this year; obviously, there are plenty of things that play into that.  But, I really like what I am seeing from him and how he has responded to his own adversity this year.  To me, it's easy to see that he has a fire burning in his gut and I think that will serve him and this team well down the stretch.

I, for one, really hope he sticks around because I think this team is going to need that kind of leadership over the offseason and definitely into his "senior" season...whatever we're supposed to call that now.

Folks--I didn't see this linked, but for Wisky, 11 is the magic number. If they have more than 11 positives that are still positive come Friday, game is cancelled.

    https://badgerswire.usatoday.com/2020/10/27/wisconsin-badgers-football-covid-19-positive-tests-nebraska-game-cancellation/

Not to be nit-picky, but the math comes to 10.95 players (@ 7.5% of the population) which means - as far as I understand it - if they have 11 players/coaches test positive on the 7-day rolling average that game won't be played.

To date, 42 Wisconsin football players and staff members have tested positive for COVID-19. The health department issued this statement:

This article sure seems to imply that UW football will (or should) be blamed for any further spikes in cases in Dane County, during the upcoming season, rather than putting the responsibility on the adults who choose to gather at watch-parties.  To me, based on the tone of the article, county health officials are saying that fans who gather just can't help themselves and they shouldn't be held responsible...it's those damned football teams.

Maybe I'm reading it with the wrong tone?

I really don't feel comfortable with this decision. We've already seen a player die from COVID (I know he didn't catch it on campus, but it's evidence that these players aren't as special as y'all thought), we've seen multiple games get postponed, we've seen entire units on teams go into quarantine.

Am I going to watch the games? Yeah, because I have a problem. But I really wish we just stayed strong. I think history is going to show the B1G was on the right side of this.

If your antigen comes back positive- you have probably  HAD The virus.

unless they use it for baseline testing.

    Antigen <> Antibody

Antigens are substances the induce an immune system response.

Antibodies are proteins in the body that recognize and bind to antigens.  At lease, this is the way I understand the information here:

    Was there a vote?

What if the heavy hitters- Ohio state, Michigan voted to okay (along with mediocre us).

I'm pretty sure there had to have been a vote.  According to this 2016-17 copy of the B1G Handbook, which I "found on a Google" (Thanks, Bo!) :

Rule 4.1.3 Duties and Responsibilities: Matters Reserved to the Council.

            D. Enforcing any of the Conference's Rules, Agreements, Appendices or Bylaws which would (i) reduce the amount of revenue to be received by a member; (ii) terminate personnel at a member university; (iii) reduce the number of sporting events in a member's schedule; or (iv) deprive participation of a member's team in either a post-season sporting event or in a telecast of a sporting event;

I'm guessing this decision would reduce the amount of revenue to be received by a member....or all members.

The thing is, herd immunity has not been shown to establish with this type of Covid; repeat cases are starting to show up in both China and Korea from people who have recovered.

Doctors in South Korea are trying to figure out if these cases (222 of them as of today) should be classified as reinfection or reactivation.  Seems like they think it is more likely to be reactivation of the virus because the symptoms went away, but the virus did not.  I'm wondering if this is something like mono, where the virus remains in your system....OR, if the people being touted as "recovered" were prematurely diagnosed as such.

Yeah, because frequent staff shakeups have done this program so much good over the past 20 years.

I don't think staff turnover, on its own, is the issue with the program. I think it's safe to say that the subsequent, poor choices for replacements are more of the issue. I mean, sometimes change is necessary for progress. BUT, there is also an increased importance on the decision-makers when hiring new staffers.

  14. Snyder left that program in a much better situation for their current staff than what was left for Frost & Co. Some may scoff at that notion. But, if nothing else, Bill Snyder brought consistency in approach and culture. To me it's pretty obvious that we have lacked consistency for far too long.

Ben Stille on the team meeting with Frost yesterday:

"There was definitely some tension on the sideline during the game so definitely just addressed the elephant in the room and definitely made a lot of people feel a lot better afterward."

It is just my opinion. But I think this just shows how soft we are as a team. That our staff had to feel bad about having tension on the sideline that they had to apologize. Then our players now feel better because our staff apologized for making them feel uncomfortable. Come the freak on. Grow a pair. I am pretty sure no one gets away with being soft at Alabama. Anyone think Saban apologizes for making the sideline tense?

I see what you're saying - to a point.  However, as a manager/leader of people, you (Frost, in this case) have to be able to vary your leadership style based on the people you're leading.  I'm not sure how much this team, as a whole, actually trusts the coaching staff at this point.  Until that "trust equity" is built up, this team probably won't be able to hold up or understand why they're being chastised.

They were supposed to be on a red eye into Chicago that got cancelled.  In case anyone was curious, I was at a conference that got out on Friday and a bunch of people flying back home through Chicago got their flights cancelled.  In case anyone was wondering if "flights cancelled" was a cop out.

Looking to visit for the Wisconsin game which is a bye week for his high school so that might work out better anyway.

Just in case there needs to be more validation.....Same here.  I was at a conference in Grand Rapids, MI and many folks who were going through Chicago were delayed or cancelled.

Can't remember where I saw it, but one of the coaches (Held?) was talking about Mo being a high metabolism guy who's up and down at lot on his weight. If that's true he could very easily bulk up some in the off season when they aren't working as hard and then shed weight fast once they hit fall camp. Might be a guy who just naturally carries little body fat and doesn't have the bulk other guys do.

Yeah, I was just getting ready to edit my post because I just came across that interview with Held too.  I just hope he'll be durable enough to last at that smaller size.  I'm not going to pretend to be an expert, but it would probably help if he would improve his ability to avoid contact (based on last year's games, anyway).
