  1. Damon and Talman were discussing his "slightness" this morning.  Benning mentioned a discussion with Frost (IIRC) about Mo's incredibly high metabolism.  If that's the case, I'm not sure he will ever be as big as many people think he should be - a la Randy Gregory.

I get what you're saying here but I wrestle with it as it pertains to players on my team. It sucks that these football-talented kids have such s#!tty upbringings and no role models, but does that earn them an exception if they screw up?

I don't think the fact that they are football-talented kids should earn them an exception if they screw up.  In our society, I think being talented at almost anything earns people more chances than they probably deserve.  I guess I'm just saying that empathy is a good thing to keep in mind for a lot of folks.  I also tend to think, if this becomes a teachable moment for him and he learns a valuable lesson in how to behave as an adult, it isn't something to condemn him for.  I say that under the assumption that he will have consequences for his misdeeds, both in- and outside of the football program.

Damn. If I was a kid in love with a girl who broke my heart, then got sent a video of her giving somebody else in school a blowjob, then she tried to reach out and be nice to me, I can't imagine I wouldn't have tried to make her feel the way I did.

This has been my thought, also.  Especially when you take into consideration the fact that Mo may not have had a solid role model or person in his life to teach him the best ways to go about handling his emotions in a constructive manner.  Having the mental tools, or a lack thereof, in the toolbox to keep those teenage emotions in check is a huge part of this, IMO.

Is, in your opinion, Maurice Washington a person/player of high character?

I don't know Maurice Washington in any way, other than what is in the media.  Therefore, I have no idea if he is a person of high character or not.

The quality of a person's character, or what a person is (good or bad), is obviously subjective.  That being said, my personal belief is that a person is the sum of their actions in this life.  Therefore, I don't think we can simply take one decision or action from a person's life and pass judgement on their entire life.  This is probably stating the obvious, but I'm sure there are many people that could be classified as high character people, who have done stupid or hurtful things to others (both inside and outside of the law).

Some of the things we’re talking about may make it hard to find a job but aren’t necessarily “wrong” and shouldn’t be made to be wrong by creating new laws.

I'm not saying, in any way, that we need new laws for this situation...although, that is what our reactionary society tends to do.  I was simply saying that is the point of having laws, in general.

Thanks for that perspective - I totally understand your point.  Kids today have to be so much more careful than we did.  I wonder if we don't do them a disservice by not really preparing them for the lasting ramifications of stuff like this.

I agree that the action(s) will persist (really any action will, hence the need for laws) if there are no consequences, from which lessons can be learned.  I'm not sure that putting a felony on the record of every minor in possession of, and/or having sent a nude photo of, another minor is the best consequence, however.  I suppose it would scare the crap out of the person potentially being charged, and maybe that's the desired affect in this case.

    Didn't Diaco win the Broyles?

    He sure did, in 2012.

I wouldn't say that diminishes the value of the award, however.  I mean, Adolf Hitler was TIME magazine's Person of the Year in 1938.  My point is, sometimes they make poor decisions because of all the strain associated with the decision! ;)

The OWH live stream has had poor sound quality. I can't find another one. The Huskers.com live stream won't play for me.

I tried the Journal Star's stream, it is having the same issue...which leads me to believe it is an issue with the university's microphone/sound equipment.  Just goes to show how broke the UNL athletic department truly is. haha

Edit: They fixed in right after I posted this...You're welcome! ;)

The thing that bothers me is they're former players with influence who also happen to be very opinionated about the program.

You want to talk about division and a fractured fan base, what do you think this kind of talk does, Jay and DB? Some opinions are best left alone, particularly if it involves circumstantial 'he said she said' drama from decades ago.

I remember listening to DB go into this a little more in depth, I believe it was last week.  DB was talking about the former players being able to get behind Frost bc of the issues he's alluded to.  DB said he thought the best way to get the majority of former players "on board" was for Frost to get everything out so that everyone could address it, and then move past it.  So, I think Jay's comment is more about the fact that he is going to have to prepare himself for just that.

I do agree, tho....it happened 20 flippin' years ago.  Be an adult and let it go.  If you need closure, fine.  But, don't drag the guy down and fracture the program further than it already is.

Dang it! I missed who S&B said just recently but apparently they let the name slip on air. Sounds like announcement could be made today.

Angus McClure is who I thought Sharpe mentioned quickly on air this morning. Would be a great hire IMO if true.

EDIT - will need to go back through the podcasts, 2nd or 3rd segment to be sure but that is who I thought I heard him say.

Benning told the producer to cut the info about Wilhite moving into Brasfield's role out of the podcast because it wasn't suppose to be public knowledge yet. Neither Sharp or Benning said who the next DL coach would be. They did, however, make it seem like the position was all but filled, though.

spoke to a very credible source so I hope if anyone fact checks me I don't look like a douche but here it is.

Wisconsin admissions have an algorithm to factor admissions. GPA, SAT, etc. if one is a little low, the others have to be higher to make up the difference.

Stevenson missed by .2 on their scale. The decision to admit went all the way to the chancellor. She denied admission.

Barry Alvarez, I heard, is on a mission to change the way the numbers are crunched by Specific major in order to possibly avoid this moving forward.

I don't know if it adds to the conversation but it was an interesting conversation I had with the person. He believes that this kid would have given Corey Clement a run at #1 this year. He said he would be surprised if he didn't jump the depth chart quickly here.

I have no reason to doubt you and I'm sure that .2 is an incredibly small window to miss by, but by any chance you know or can put in perspective what that .2 value is? .2 out of 5, 10, 100?

Agreed. I have no idea what .2 means without context.

Also, I don't get why the major would matter. If it does, that's stupid, and all their players should come in undeclared. Unless there's a rule against that too?

Not sure major necessarily matters. But, I can say that at some universities (UNL for sure, as that's where I went) admission requirements are dependent on the college you are attending. For instance, I entered UNL in the College of Engineering. The admissions requirements for COE were more stringent than those of, say, the College of Business. For comparison, CBA required an ACT score of 20 while COE required an ACT score of 24 (at least that was the case in 2004 when I started college). Though, I'm guessing that because Wisconsin's admissions are so damned tight, there's no need to require certain majors/colleges to have separate requirements. But, I'm not sure if any of this applies to scholarship athletes, or if they just have a standard admission requirement.

  14. Just heard on Sharp and Benning that Mike Riley announced Leroy Alexander, Tolbert, and David Santos will not be with the team in the fall. Santos is one hell of a surprise to me. I wonder if this is a lingering issue with his knee.

  15. Let's use this Neal re-affirmment (cuz that's what it was. he never really decommitted) to analyze how good of a job this staff has done with this recruiting class in the wake of a toxic and somewhat controversial departure of the previous staff. The only two recruits they lost now are two guys that were gonna be gone anyway. And now the Neal fella, who expressed numerous time his displeasure in the removal of the old staff (which is fine. No problem with that. You build relationships with staff.). And Riley and co.-with some idiotic assistance from Mattison apparently-are able to seal the deal with him in the face of Oklahoma, Michigan, and Oregon.

Let's let that sink in for a moment. Omaha or not. This Daishon Neal signing, even if something happens and he never plays a down, is a big deal.

I agree with you, Count. I believe Neal being from Omaha is what makes securing his commitment even MORE important. As Benning said this morning, it highly influences the perception of this staff's ability to secure in-state recruits. I think if Neal had decommitted for Michigan, it would have reinforced Harbaugh's belief that Michigan can come into NE and take whoever he wants, whenever he wants. Though, I don't think it will keep them from trying at all.

So, yes, this was a big deal for Nebraska on the recruiting front.

  16. Personally, I am willing to give Riley the benefit of the doubt. But, with each "iffy" hire he makes, I think husker nation will be less forgiving when things go wrong. For this reason, I really hope he makes some strong hires for OC and DC.

  17. Sooooo who's the DC in all this JT madness?

Not saying he would be a good fit at DC, but...One coach that I would like to see back on the Nebraska sidelines in some capacity....Mike Ekeler. That guy knew how to coach linebackers! Our defense was great while he was here (2008 - 2010). Not saying that it was all because of him. But, given the importance of the linebacker position within the defense, I think he had a bit to do with it.
