  1. Chris Petersen is the only person even worth considering as a replacement, because he has proven that he can dominate while coaching at a school in a low population, cold weather state. That being said, Petersen is not coming here. He's turned down numerous offers already. So everyone better hope Pelini wins as many games as possible, because we're not getting anyone better than him any time soon. Let's be realistic...

  2. Another major problem is the idea of having the playoff games at “neutral locations” (read: the current BCS bowls) rather than the top-two teams getting home-field advantage. The current BCS bowls are already heavily biased toward warm weather schools, being located in the southeast and southwest. If the SEC/Texas/TCU/OU/OkSU never have to worry about playing in the cold during playoffs, the system will be rigged in their favor from the start.

  3. I just fear that it is inevitable that people will want to keep adding teams and watering down the impact of the regular season. What fan of 9-3 schools wouldn't want to be able to get a shot in at a national trophy?

Exactly, what makes college football great right now is that the regular season games matter so much. If they start adding tons of playoff games, the regular season games will become as boring as the NFL. I'm glad that Pelini and Perlman are speaking out against playoffs altogether.

  4. The author has it all wrong. College degrees are becoming increasingly worthless in today's US economy as more and more decent-paying careers get sent overseas. All that remains are low-wage jobs and mounting piles of academic debt. Quality entertainment from college sports, particularly football, is one of the few useful things that US universities still provide their local communities.

  5. In terms of the difficulty of our competition in the Big12 North, we already are in the "Big10." I've always liked the idea of telling the Big12 South teams to get screwed and bolting for the Big10. Geographically, it is the only other conference that would make any sense for Nebraska (now that Texas destroyed the Big8).

  6. let me just remind you guys of 2005 and KU playing TX. There were many phantom calls and a very big BS offensive pass interference call against KU that cost us the game. It was the game where Mangino accused the B12 of cheating to allow TX a chance at going undefeated. I don't remember now how much he got fined for it, but it was all I could think about last night while watching the game. Those last two PI calls down the sideline was utter BS.

Thanks for posting this. There was also a BS call in their "championship" game that year too, which resulted in them getting a touchdown that made the difference in their "win" against USC. They're just cheaters.
