  1. I think that "my way or the highway" approach would be great and I'm sure works for Texas or USC, Fla etc. In a program that is truly elite you can perhaps intimidate kids into not taking a visit after a commit.

For a program like ours, instead of playing hardball, you had better be in there schmoozing and trying to retain recruits or like we are trying to do in other situations, get somebody else's recruts to vist and decommit. Indeed both the kids and the staff know that if we run a 4* kid off with an ultimatum who has orally committed, out of the program that it is likely he will be replaced with a lessor perhaps a 2* player. Therefore both sides know that it is not a policy that is likely well thought out,, but feels good right now.

Only when you reach the top will his harda$$ approach be the best way to handle recruitiing. Carter and Gabbert might have been gone anyway and probably would, tut it seems they were the first to hear about this 'no visit' policy.

I think persoanlly you saw Bo "being Bo" and having a little public fit in that statement that will be revised when it obviously doesn't fit where we are at in the eyes of recruits these days. When a hat with an N on it is seen on several of the silly games at the All Star HC game. Till then ultimatums will unlikely work and kids certainly will look around.

as per usual, you're dead wrong. bo isn't bullying anyone or throwing a fit and he's not going to ditch principles for expediency. he's building a culture and he's not playing games with kids. i think it's amazing that anyone can question the simple expectation that commits must act committed or they will no longer be considered commits. of course, you seem to constantly be touting whatever line puts the coaching staff in the worst light, so i have to wonder if you're just trolling anyway.

and for what it's worth, i would guess that we would continue recruiting commits that start taking other visits as long as they were up front and honest about questioning their decision. jerking the coaches around, like lil' gabby apparently did, is a far different thing and will obviously not be tolerated.

the callahan era is over, we will no longer get kids here by any means necessary and just assume they'll work hard for the coaches when they get here. if nothing else, bo is helping these kids understand that your word matters. the fact that it will help us build a winning culture is a side benefit.

Lets me get this straight. So, 17-year-old kids who are trying to make perhaps the most important decision of their lives are "jerking around" coaches like Pelini, a seasoned professional who pulls in $1.8 million a year. OK ... who is the adult here?

  2. Sounds like Bo has an ego problem.

Sorry, but the "you're either with us or against us" approach may be good for the Husker faithful to hear, but I'm not sure it's a winner with recruits.

Someone earlier used the salesman analogy. If I'm buying a new car, and I strike a good deal with Dealership X and feel like I'm ready to sign on the dotted line, but mention I'd first like to take one more visit to the dealership across town -- that first dealer better not say, "F U, we don't want you anyway. Take your business somewhere else."

Bottom line: If you have a winning product, you shouldnt be afraid to let customers shop around. They'll come back to you in the end.

Jeepdad . . . you haven't been seen around here since the Missouri-Nebraska game. It's curious that you show up now that Missouri is "tearing it up" in recruiting. Perhaps you didn't want to eat the crow being served? I think you were fairly confident of a MU victory back in October. Better luck next year.

Maybe you should read the whole article. Bo is saying don't commit until you are ready. Once you commit, you are COMMITTED. In your analogy, he's saying don't buy the car from me until you know you know it's the one you want. Shop around all you want . . . just don't say you are buying from me unless you are actually buying from me. Hopefully the recruits have better reading comprehension than yourself. (Or maybe you never bothered to read the article.)

Mizzou is tearing it up in recruting? Who knew ...

  4. Sat next to some Husker fans in the north end zone bleachers and everyone got along spendidly.

I've done my share of trash talking here before the game, mostly in good fun. But just let me say "Congrats" on the win. It's extremely disappointing as a Tiger fan, and made me question whether taking the day off work and standing in soaked shoes for three hours was worth it ... but all in all it was a decent game and an experience I will always remember.

I was pleasantly surprised by the Mizzou defense which played well despite the flourish in the 4th quarter, which effectively took the air out of their sails. Your defense appears to be all it was hyped to be and will continue to be a force in Big 12 play.

It's hard to tell what's in store for Mizzou going forward. The rainstorm and Gabbert's injury (which I didn't know about until I got home and watched the replay) make it hard to measure exactly where we stand. Sloppy play all around. But the Huskers appear to be back.

Also, for the most parts the posts on Tigerboard have been gracious and complimentary. As a regular there, it's appreciated.

Good luck from here on out.

    - Barry

  5. All trash-talking aside for a moment. I did some work at a former employer regarding HIPAA laws, which govern what types of information can be shared and how regarding injuries and illnesses. This is from HIPAA regarding the subject:

For coaches and other school administrators, an authorization would need to be provided before this information could be shared. Another concern is on-field evaluations information. Can this be shared with the necessary parties? The answer, it seems, is that these evaluations would fall under the category of emergency evaluations, for which prior authorization is unnecessary.

    Finally,
regarding the sharing of information with the media, this issue is clear-cut. Under HIPAA, personal health information can be provided to sports information staff or the media only with authorization from the athlete
    (Magee et al., 2003).

My point is there may be a reason why Bo is being coy about potential flu rumors and names of players -- for now.

  6. I love college football as much as the next guy, but the imatureness that is coming from BOTH sides of this NU-MU "rivalry" is really making me get annoyed with college football right about now.

Can't we just grow up, talk football, watch the game, and talk some more football?

    I agree 100%.

  7. I think Nebraska fans stopped caring about these pseudo trophies when we started winning National Championships, Heisman trophies, Conference titles, Outland awards, etc, etc, etc. I think when we started having a trophy named after one of our players (the Rimington Award), that was pretty much the death knell for anything like this, at least for our fans.

Exactly the kind of arrogant attitude that Mizzou fans allude to. Nub fans are literally "too good" to care about meaningless little trophies or rivalries.

  8. Dude - you need to put down the crack pipe, the bugeaters haven't done s**t for years. Your grandkids may be alive to see another BCS bowl for the Nub's but you won't.

Here is a complete list for you of major bowl game wins, conference championships and National Titles won by Mizzou football in the last 40 years:

    1. ___________________ .

    Any questions?

Crap, my browser isn't working...can't see what's on the line next to #1.

Well, allow me to be of service, my good sir. Next to the #1 there is nothing listed. Nothing at all. It's a blank line. And that's because our good friends down south-away haven't won squat by way of major bowl wins, conference titles and/or national titles. In 40 years.

And yet the mouths run and run and run from some fans. You'd think they'd take some clue from the classier guys like Fro, but no.

It's all good, though. We're well on our way to stealing Fro from those potzers and making him really truly a Husker fan.

Once again, Husker fans step into the time machine to help justify the general suckiness of their team. While you bask in the glory years, the Tigers will once again be taking the Nubs to the woodshed on national TV. And once again, Husker Nation will be collectively jumping off rooftops and wondering what the hell went wrong.

    41-21 Mizzou.

  9. Congrats on your blow-out of Kansas State. Ganz looks like a real winner.

After seeing K-State play, how well do you think Mizzou stacks up with them? Ganz absolutely lit their secondary up and I assume that will be our game plan as well. Thoughts on the outcome? I think Mizzou fans are a little nervous this could be a trap game.

Again, great win. You guys should stomp Colorado; they've pretty much given up I think.

  10. Good luck against Kansas.

I honestly think NU has a shot against the Jayhawks. The beakers are due for a wake-up call and I sense there's still some fight in your Nebraska squad. Any team can beat any other team on a given day, and with the tradition that the Huskers have I think you guys are on the brink of pulling out some good wins to close the season.

You guys definitely have the talent. It's just a matter of coaching and will. I believe Osborne's influence will pay off this Saturday.

Breaking News: Gabbert Will Visit Mizzou

Parkway West quarterback Blaine Gabbert, the No. 1 rated player in Missouri and the No. 4 quarterback in the nation, is reconsidering his commitment to Nebraska and will be in Columbia this Saturday for the Mizzou-Texas Tech game, InsideMizzou.com has learned.

Parkway West (Mo.) quarterback Blaine Gabbert, the No. 1 rated player in Missouri and the No. 4 quarterback in the nation, is reconsidering his commitment to Nebraska. He will be in Columbia this Saturday for the Mizzou-Texas Tech game and is closely considering Missouri, InsideMizzou.com has learned.

“Yes, he will be in Columbia this Saturday for the game,” Parkway West coach Mike Roth told InsideMizzou.com. “There’s a lot going on at Nebraska and a lot of uncertainty, and Blaine wants to take another look at his options … Yeah, I think he is starting to look around.”

Gabbert also considered Alabama and others before committing to Nebraska this past summer, but Roth has not heard anything about the Crimson Tide getting back into the mix.

“The only school he has mentioned to me is Missouri,” Roth said. “Missouri has been right there from the get-go. He’s got a lot of respect for coach Pinkel, coach Ford and coach Yost. It would be a great opportunity for him to come in and learn for a year under a great, great leader in Chase Daniel. That experience would be invaluable.”

Nebraska has foundered, suffering blowout losses to Mizzou and Oklahoma State the last two weeks and firing athletic director Steve Pederson, leaving the status of the entire coaching staff in doubt.

“There’s a lot of uncertainty with all of the coaches there. Coach Cosgrove is someone who Blaine had formed a strong relationship with,” Roth said. “Missouri is right up the road and coach Pinkel has it rolling right now. Missouri was always one of his top choices.”

InsideMizzou.com will keep you posted on this blockbuster breaking story…

  12. not trying to be a jerk, just letting you know we are talking about it in the recruiting forum.

Sorry for the repost ... I should have visited the recruiting forum first. Should have known you guys would already be all over this.

to me there is a very good chance he is gone, that being said if he leaves us you are in for a dog fight to get him. I could see usc and others jumping into the ring for him

True. However, insidemizzou interviewed his high school coach who informed them that Mizzou is his number one choice at this point. Word is Gabbert is bringing his friend Will Compton with him, leaving hope for Mizzou fans that it could be a two-fer.
