  1. Wondering that myself. Personally, I like this. If your starters aren't performing, sit 'em. Get those young guys in there and let them knock opponents around, give them a shot to show what they can really do. Ruud has been the only senior LB making plays consistently. I am very happy to see Brandenburg and Dillard getting promoted. He's the future of the LB corps. As far as Bowman being listed at 2, maybe he's just more banged up than we know right now. Certainly not a stretch given his history. Another thought: If one of the DTs isn't at 100% percent, and faced with Okie St.'s offense, maybe we could be seeing some 3-4 w/ Octo, Bb, Dillard, and Ruud?

  3. He probably meant the spread option, not the regular spread. In which case, obviously, yeah, the spread option is similar to the option... if that's what he was trying to say...
  4. A little something to smile about this week: Ruud kicking butt, taking names for Tampa Bay (I might be paraphrasing slightly) Great to see Nebraska's leading tackler finally starting, succeeding and getting some recognition. We all know what he's capable of, so it's about time.
  5. I guess that criteria rules out Art Shell. I vote for Eric Taylor, Dillon Panthers head coach. That guy motivates his ass off.
  6. So it's just a coincidence that a guy with a reputation as a top recruiter is bringing in top 10 recruiting classes every single year? It has nothing to do with his skill as a recruiter. Huh. Missed assignments on D. Missed tackles. Blown coverage. Procedural penalties. Dropped passes. Those things don't come from the head coach. The head coach does not work hands-on with every unit. He recruits, organizes, and formulates game plans. He delegates to his assistants and coordinators. Poor technique and mental lapses on the field come from bad hands-on coaching within a unit, not from the head coach. Cally's problem is bad assistants producing bad technicians, and it's damn hard to motivate a team when the players lack confidence in themselves and their teammates to perform.
  7. Coz needs to go. Now. His career as a d-coordinator has been consistently sub-par. But firing BC? That would be a mistake. I don't care what anyone says, recruiting skill is the #1 asset for a college head coach. It is on the coordinators and asst. coaches to coach the kids up, and THAT is Callahan's real problem. His staff is just not good enough. NU has to get some quality asst. coaches and coordinators on staff, or all that talent Cally keeps bringing in will just continue to be wasted. What's shocking me about this team (apart from the defense not even showing up 90% of the time) is the play of the O-line. The O-line was supposed to be the strength of the team... what the heck is going on? Even now, I can't help but look at the recruiting class and drool.... but, dammit, we need guys who can coach these kids up on a unit by unit basis!
  8. Props for using the sagarin ratings. The team that stops the run will win this game. Nebraska's run defense absolutely must shut them down this week. Force Daniels to throw and more importantly, force him to make quick (ill-advised) throws on 2nd and long and 3rd and long. If Mizzou wants to win they need to do exactly the same thing.
  9. We dropped down to 26th in the Sagarin ratings. (Mizzou's at 18.) I like the Sagarin system cause it's a pretty fair measure of relative strength based on statistical performance as opposed to the subjectivity of the polls. Btw, the Sagarin numbers make Mizzou approx. 5 point favorites at home vs. NU this weekend. I like the Huskers in this game as long as we can stop the run.
  10. I recommend a 4-3 with a rover. I mentioned before but this will be best for our defense since our DB's so far are playing well. Here is another crude example.(see below)...This keeps all our athleticism on the field allows Ruud to cover TE and backs on pass plays and Ruud need to only be concerned with outside contain...if we only use 3 d-lineman then 2 lb's play over (close to the line) and that isn't going to help stop the run inside or off tackle. I have Octavien and Dillard playing inside LB's and McKeon coming in to give rest every 3 series to Dillard and on obvious passing plays bring in another DB to play safety and bring Dillard out. Move to a base 4-3 with Culbert, Ruud and Octavien as the LB. Sub whenever rest is needed. **************************W(culbert)*******MLB****MLB **********************************************************S(Ruud) **********************************DE******DT****NT*****DE ************************************T****G****C****G***T***TE That would work well, especially since Ruud seems to have developed great hands. One thing about the 3-4 is that it would hopefully improve the LBs ability to pick up and adjust to fakes which seems to bea problem for them. Of course in the 3-4 you'd need the SS to come up on inside runs. That could be a job for Culbert, maybe.
  11. If the Huskers wanna play bend, don't break defense, I'd really love to see them using a fair amount of 3-4. Potter, Suh, Turner up front, Steve, Corey, Bo, Lance in back. If you've got playmaking LBs, I say use 'em.
  12. OU, texas, penn, rutgers, alabama, west virginia.... I know I'm missing some and it's not over yet. Crazy week. Crazy season when you throw in michigan, ND, and louisville. I can' t remember so many top programs stumbling so early.
  13. He might not be the best, but his unintentional comedy is vastly preferable to the usual alternatives of vanilla monotone play-by-play and apoplectic Jim Ross-style screaming.
  14. I think bugeater's grumpy cause I won our fantasy baseball league. Hi, btw, BE. Small world, eh?
