  1. Maybe go to Canada and get a hockey player. Cy, I feel you pain man. I grew up in Iowa and am a die-hard Hawks fan living in South Dakota where suck is the norm. In Iowa lately, "suck" has become a way of life as far as football is concerned. Neither of our teams had a dynasty to flush away, we just suck naturally. (By the way, My condolences on the game yesterday. You guys have been putting it to my Hawks, so yesterday came out to be our turn.)
  2. Solich by no means had things rolling, but with time he would have settled in. The program was strong enough to carry him till he got his feet on the ground.
  3. And things are better now? My memory really sucks, but what was Nebraska ranked at the end of Solich's last season?
  4. I believe it was the result of an impatient attitude that dominated everyone from the fan in the cheap seats all the way up to the power at the top. The refusal to accept anything short of an immediate national championship-quality level of play eventually bit everyone in the butt. Who knows how things would be today if the Huskers had been more patient way back then?
  5. The Husker football program was once a dynasty and was a force to be reckoned with in college football, but the dynasty fell victim to its own lust for national championships and as a result has paid the price. The strength of the former Husker championship programs was found in the fact that a system of play had been established, worked on throughout decades of good coaching, and perfected to the point where a national championship team could be expected. The system was on a roll until Nebraska fans became impatient with Solich and he was fired before he had a chance to settle in. With the firing of Solich and the bringing in of coaches with a non-Husker football mindset, the proven Husker program was abandoned to whatever the new coach happened to like best. This made the Huskers just another football team among the faces of many. I will admit that I am far from being a Husker fan, but this post is not an attempt to say "Ha Ha..", it is an observation of human nature. The lust for power created an impatient attitude toward winning to the point that the entire established way of playing football (The Husker approach to success) was abandoned with the firing of Solich and the result is as obvious as yesterday's performance. Years ago, as a Husker-hater I was glad to see Solich fired because I recognized way back then that this would be the end of a football super power. Please do not read this post as a spiteful, in-your-face bash on Husker fans or players; this is simply an observation that the lust for dominance can get out of control and at this point in time, more then ever before, Husker fans are going to have to bite the bullet and be patient for a few more years before there is any hope of the former days of glory returning. It will not happen this year, or the next or the next, but dumping the program that is in place now will only make things worse. Be patient and let everyone work things out and the days of glory may return. All the talk I am reading about cleaning house and starting over with a new coaching staff will only make things worse for you guys, and better for all the anti-Huskers throughout the nation.
  6. OK, you guys are going to be getting a new coach (again). So, how many years will you give the new guy to produce a national championship team before you want his head? Any number lower than 5 is unrealistic. What's the deal? How long will the new guy get? Teacher
  7. Ok, so get rid of everybody and start over. Isn't that what everyone wanted when Solich was around? Let's say you do clean house and start over, how much time are you willing to give the new coaching staff to produce a national championship team? 3 years? 5 years? 8 years? Anyone who thinks it can be done in less than 5 years is just fooling themselves. The problem with you Husker fans is that you are not willing to put in the time to allow a program to develop. Isn't that why you got rid of Solich? (Now, I am not being sarcastic here,my memory really is not all that great, but wasn't Solich sacked the same year NU played for the national championship?) If that's the case, what does a coach have to do to satisfy you guys? Sure the wheels have come off your program, but whatever you do you are going to have to settle for the fact that there are going to be many, many lean years ahead of you until this new dream coaching staff comes along and restores things to the glory days of T.O. Are you guys in it for the long haul or do you, as in the lyrics of the song, still sing, "I want it all, I want it all, I want it all, And I want it now? If you would have been patient with Solich you might not be crying in your beer now.
  8. haha Well, I have these series of tubes called The Internets coming to my apartment and it doesn't take too long Anyway, my point was just to provide counter-examples to the "you have to give him time" and that he took over for a bad coach with bad recruits... yet Devaney took over for Jennings and had a spectacular season (especially considering the Jennings era record). More recent examples have been cited all over the place with USC, etc... Coaching makes a HUGE difference... huge... immeasurable. If you can take a group of players who had never seen a winning season, been shut out for 1/3 of their losses and turn them into ass-kickers... well... that just rules. http://www.time.com/time/magazine/article/...,834648,00.html Awww.... What you stated is very true, but you are talking about a class of coaches that fall under the category of "super coach" and those guys are somewhat rare. What NU is dealing with now is a guy that may or may not fall under the category of "good coach" or "developing coach". There are outstanding, but relatively few examples of the super coach and NU has had a couple in the past, and so have a few other teams. But in the real world these rare examples don't come along all that often and teams have to play the hand they have been dealt. I would be willing to bet that if NU had stayed with Solitch (sp?) by now he would have had things pretty well straightened out and NU would be on the delivering end of the butt kicking and not on the receiving end. It's all about patience and too many NU fans want the glory days now without having to put up with several years of development and discouragement. Patience is the key factor at this point and if you keep switching coaches every few years you will NEVER see the old times again.
  9. If you're so "anit-husker"...what are you doing perusing a "Husker" board? I can be anti-husker and still stand up for a guy I don't think is getting a fair shake.
  10. four year is enought to establish your self when you take over a 10-3 team. No, four years is not usually enough. Sure, some coaches do it in less time, but many good coaches take longer. Be patient guys. You got rid of a 10-3 coach because of your impatience to win a national title right away and look where you are now. YOU STINK!! Sure, get rid of this guy and then complain about the next one just like you complained about the last one and the present one. I don't mind. It's going to be a long, rough road until you learn to settle down and back someone through the long haul.
  11. Ok, before I start this rant, let me say up front that I am not a Husker fan, I am very anti-Husker, but please hear me out. I read on too many Husker forums that lots of guys want to see the coach get canned. Please get rid of this coach just like you did to the last one before he really has a chance to get his own program established. It takes two things to make a strong program; good coaching and patience. Good coaching does not happen by the first game or even after a few years. Patience is the second factor that too many of you do not have. Sure, get rid of your coach before he gets a chance to establish himself. Go to someone else and complain when he doesn't win a national championship in his second season. Get rid of everyone who doesn't start out like Tommy O finished. If you will just keep getting rid of coaches every few years you will never have anything and all us Husker-Haters can look forward to many years of watching you get it handed to you like what happened in MO.
