  1. All playoff formats would be a farce. We wouldn't have the only two deserving unbeatens playing for the title this year. We'd have a silly little bracket with tcu and some other one loss school or an 8 man bracket with 5 one loss schools in it. It would be a joke. I would never want Nebraska to get through the big 10 and win the title game only to get tossed into a playoff and forced to face teams that are just now hitting their stride. The focus on the regular season is diminished with a playoff. It's just the facts. The chiefs lose in week one it's ho hum...Nebraska loses it's now a race to watch and hope for all the other unbeaten's to lose. That is entertainment....

So every other major and minor sport IN THE WORLD uses a farcical format to determine a champion, yet a popularity contest judged by some crunched numbers and a popularity contest is legitimate? Clearly we have different definitions of the words "farcical" and "legitimate."

Ira, don't you get tired of seeing an undefeted team not playing for a national title? I hate the arguement that a playoff diminishes the regular season, teams would still play for higher seeds, to get into the playoffs. I don't see the nfl regular season as being deminished. As knapplc ssid every other sport inthe world useses a playoff system. I would love to see a +1 system started and eventualy eveolve into a full playoff.

  2. Don't we have a member that works for Nike? I wouldn't minda switch, however the unis need to stay the same/similar. I believe the pro combat uniforms do have an actual advantage over the regular ones it has nothing to do with the color of or how they look the actual material has some advantages.

  3. So I'm not sure if it really applies to this thread or not, but I had a procedure today on my stomach. I have what is called gastidus(sp?) from gutting my chew. I am now on strict dr's orders not to gut my chew anymore. Also to anyone else who guts it I no longer reccomend it, that includes Bo. I've now been banned from spicy or greasy foods for two weeks. The only foods I eat are spicy greasy foods so it kind of sucks.

  4. Yes! Another season of big game losses. I'm so geeked!

Atleast it wont be with the same teams this year.

Yes and that will be the excuse this next year if we fall to score a TD against Wisc, Ohio State, Michigan State, Penn State, and Iowa.

    "we havent played them before."

Question, in the scenario that you give are we playing our 3rd string QB, who just came off a concusion? Then again bringing up the injuries is also an excuse. In fact if you mention any legit reason for the offensive struggles it is an excuse. The fact of the matter is last year Watson needed to be fired for being too conserivitve just playing field position and kicking field goals, this year he needs to be fired for taking risks when we are in field goal range.

  5. A #9 team with a loss or two may whine as much as an unbeaten #3 team does today, but nobody will listen to them.

Here's one scheme I saw for a 16 seed playoff. All 11 FBS conference get 1 automatic bid with the remaining 5 at large.

Doesn't look like much of an improvement to me and so much of the excitement and drama of the regular season is robbed. You probably have to give up a CCG and 1 regular season game for this system. The top teams still cruise through Sun Belt, MAC, or C-USA teams first round and then play a few games that are CCG caliber anyway to get to the NCG.

That playoff format is a farce. There is no way you're going to take ONLY the top teams from each conference. A 16-team format is the only way to go, with some poll mechanism being used to determine the teams. Yes, there will be griping from team #17, but the case for the 17th team is FAR worse than the case for the #3 team in the current format. Even in a plus-one format, the #5 team often has an argument as legitimate as team #4. As you go further down the polls those arguments lose legitimacy, making a 16-team format the ideal solution.

A four-round playoff would not ruin the current format of games. You could start the last week of August, play your 12-week schedule, then have your playoffs. There is no reason to eliminate games, and the regular season's games do not become watered down because only slightly greater than 10% of your teams can actually make the playoffs. Yes, two teams will play a 16-game season, but that's only one game more than Villanova and Montana, the two teams in the D2 Finals last year, played.

If we could break these ridiculous bowl game ties from these conferences we could have a playoff. It's simple, it's been done for years by D2, and it makes sense. Enough with the BCS. Enough.

I'll disagree with knapp a little this format is ok, however it needs a lot of tweaking. Conf. usa, the MAC, and Sun Belt should not have automatic spots in the tourny. Alos I would say you add a minum reocrd lets just say 9-3 to get in. The more qualifcations, the more clear cut, the less contoversy. I'm afraid the point is moot, no matter what solution there will always be a new problem. This is the only level of footabll that does not have a playoff and no matter how good of systems that gets sugested it's probably going to stay that way for a long time to come.

  6.

I have a great deal of respect for Delany, but his stance in this is wrong. Last year with Boise St. & TCU going undefeated was a great example, as is this year with TCU. No, their strength of schedule isn't comparable to an SEC team, a Big 12 team or a Big 10 team, but that doesn't mean they can't vie for the title. ANY team that has a solid record should have a chance - but with the BCS, only two teams have a shot at the title. With a playoff you give solid teams like Boise and TCU a chance to fight their way through tough teams into a championship game. It legitimizes a championship, and would eliminate the "Mythical" tag most people put on it today.

So what your saying is that with Boise's schedule this year (which had maybe 1 hard game) should be ranked with the conferences that plays atleast 3 to 4 hard teams within their own conference let alone outside of theirs? Lets look at Boise, yes they beat VT, but that was it and then when they get to Nevada, they blow it (which Nevada isn't all that great, but there really the best they had in the match-up this year). No way should they be looked at IMO.

Not only this, but when big names do try to play them, they coward out or ask for a ton of money that they don't deserve. Nebraska tried to play them and they said only if NU gives them $1 million and I believe if they play in Boise. They should be begging for the heavy hitters if they want to be considered instead of being comfortable at playing the nobodies.

AS knap said if the choice comes down to only two temas than no they shouldn't get the shot over other undefeateds from major conferences, but the whole debate is why only limit it to two teams. An eight or even a six team playoff would put the debate to rest, make the arugement that one team will aloways be left out if you want but you just defending a crappy system.

I can see why they aren't doing a play off system. IMO conferences would lose a ton of money. If they only went with an 8 team play-off, which 8 teams would you pick out of all the conferences? Hell you would have more arguments then you have now. The NFL does 10 and that is with just to conferences. As of now, you have a ton of teams playing in bowls and they all receive money. How would they distribute the money if say just the SEC and Big 10 (or however they would separate it) teams made it to the semis and bowl?

Edit: didn't think I took 30 mins to type this and krill beat me to the money part.

There are several ways to offest the money, you can stil have the lesser bowls in conjunction with the playoffs. I think the nfl style playoff with 12 teams would be a bit much. I like 8 to 10 with the number one and two seed gettig a first round bye. I think it would remove all doubt about a true champion. Bowls could play in the later rounds and select teams that have been eliminated, that way the schools that bring the most fans still mkae the most money. If you do the first two rounds at a home stadium it elimnates the problem of trvel for several weeks. ESpically if it is an 8 team playoff with a three round playoff.

  7. Well I for one agree with them. Does a undefeated team from a not so good conference equal a undefeated team from B10,B12 or sec? So lets just say NU runs the gautlet next year, takes thier licks but wins the B10 undefeated, you are saying they should play, say Louisiana-Lafayette if they went undefeated? That would not put butts in the seats. Simply put it's about filling stadiums and TV viewers. They are not saying there is'nt any good teams in those conferences, just with a weak sos how can you compare them to our conferences. Best thing Boise could do is schedule say NU,OK,Alabama,OH St as thier non conf games AND win all them. Thats the only way they will gain any traction or respect from the "big boys".

This is not about schools, it's about conferences. Each putting thier best up against anothers best. It doesnt always work out that way, but I think what the big boys are saying is,we have invited the little guys to come and eat at our table in our house, with the food that we bought, and now they are asking to sleep with our women. With the contract set to expire, the big boys are saying, if you dont like our food and are going to be ungrateful for us inviting you to our table, then theres the door. Say what you will about Delany but he stands up for the B10 and knows how to run a conference.

Keeping in mind that no there sos is not as tough as a aq school. Boise and TCU both scheduled 2 aq teams on their schedule andin the case of Boise both of them were ranked. They did have a very tough non conferecne schedule.

  8. I remember being really impressed with him when he got in (I was looking forward to many more shouts of "MENDOZAAAAAAAAA!" a la McBain), then suddenly he was gone. I guess it's kind of nice to know what happened to him. I had a couple of chances to chat with him (academically, not football-ly) and he seems like a good guy.

I just want to say that we're lucky here-- academics are stressed so strongly to the guys on the team and all of the players that I've had in my classes or gotten a chance to know have been good students, really engaged, inquisitive, and generally a joy to have in class. I know that it's broadly a cliche in the culture that football players are lazy in class and will try to skimp by doing as little as possible while their coaches and athletic departments try to secure them favors from faculty, but at UNL we're lucky to have great students and an athletic department that takes academics very seriously.

funny you should mention that I thought exactly the same thing.

  9. Heard that too. Read about it here:

OH sh#t, now Bo wants to go to UNR? There's an ad for Travel Nevada, and........

    yeah.

In all honesty, I would love to see Solich retire as a Husker, maybe not as OC though.

:yeah maybe a new postition could be made up, like ball technique coach, or anti-fumbeling cordinator. He's qualified and here is the proof:

Ok so I'm joking about the new postiions but he sure could help our backs with their fumbeling problem.

  10. Add this to a long line of articles that make Beebe come off like a d-bag. He only had one quote and he managed to d-bag up the whole article. That being said some type of playoff needs to be formed. It would raise more money for the schoools, the conferences, anyone else involved and best of all it would crown a true champion every year. I'm getting really tired of seeing an undefeated team at the end of each season that had no chance to play for a national title.

  11. Yes you're right, it was third and 8. I really don't think Bo's on the headset telling Watson what to run or go for the TD or whatever. He may say something like "don't lay off the gas" or something like that. That's just my opinion though. What I'm saying is even if it's 3rd and 8 in field goal range, why even put taylor in the position that he's proven in that game he can't succeed at consistently? Again, I don' think that he's a terrible OC, just that he has a handful of times in every big game where it's like "what the hell are you doing?!" In most cases it ends up costing us the game or at least puts our D in very stressful situations.

The funny thing is last year everyone wanted him fired for not taking chances, like the one you mentioned. Now we should fire hum for not laying down and setteling for a fg on third and eight. While we're at it why dont we just kick a field goal on first down as soon as we are in rang. I mean this team has consistantly shown that it fumbles a lot. We wouldnt want to risk that.

  12. From what I can tell he chews a butt load of GUM. If he does Dip NU probably has a policy that say he cant do it in public interviews and games. It's like when coaches use to smoke on the side lines. Also when you dip you need a spitter while indoors. Inless he uses SNUS or Bandits which you can gut that stuff and its hard to spot also.

You don't NEED a spitter, I've chewed for years and to be more descret about it I swallow the juices. It is what us in the chew biz call "gutting it" I also don't think Bo chews but wouldn't be surpirsed if he did.

Yea I dip my self. But out of all the ppl I know who chew (which is alot, I'm in the army) only one I met gutted it. Because he was teaching a class. He looked like he was gunna lose his lunch everytime. The thing I'm wondering. Is there a NCAA policy banning visible tobacco use. I'm assuming there is. Anyone want to shed light on it. Yes this is a Random thread. Atlest its not a rumor thread

Can't answer your question about visable tabbacco use, but it is pretty easy to chew without it being visable if you can gut it easily.

  14. For the guy who says i'm a troll.......wtf? Do you remember watching Johnny Rogers scoring 4 TD's against ND in the Orange Bowl? Do you even know what the game of the century was or who played in it? Do you have a 4 inch by 4 inch herbie husker tatood on your leg? Don't ever call me a troll!!!! Go ahead and pat yourselves on the back and keep kissing Mark's ass, you need to be more educated about what is really happening in Lincoln.

First off you are a troll, remembering or having watched those games has nothig to do with weather or not your a troll. You clearly started a thread called "maybe Bo isn't so cool" to get a negitve reaction. If you want to discuss the situation try bumping the taylor is quiting thread where the decision to play taylor was talked about a lot.

    Until then :troll::troll::troll::troll:

  15. Is Braylon Heard ever going to make it? Or are we done with him? Aaron Green WILL be ahead of Robinson though.

Also I would say Bubba Starling would be penciled in at QB IF he doesn't go to the MLB. I gave up hope on that happening though.

I believe Heard is talking the ACT today he needs an 18, if he gets it he is N if not its juco he goes.
