True...but I usually only go to one game a year and happened to pick the opener in 2018 where I drove 16 hours round trip to not see a game.
Also I tend to be a weather nerd.
Yep, as runningblind said, I totally get it now.

I agree. This was great to see. Hopefully they start to move with more tempo earlier in the game.

I will be at the game in Champaign this weekend and it looks like a system may arrive Saturday night that reminds me of the system at the 2018 opener. There is a 70% chance of storms in the evening thru most of Sunday morning. I wonder if they would consider moving up the game time. Or the weather Gods can have the storms wait until Sunday.
The forecast will change a few times before Saturday gets here. I wouldn't worry about it yet

What don't you understand? The offense "looked" smoother, more faster, and more efficient to YOU, however you're not taking into effect that the game was already over with anyway. Did you not see the 80+ yard TD drive in 5 plays and 39 seconds before half time by the first team offense? Was that not "fast" enough for you?
They were moving fast before halftime, because they didn't have a choice. There wasn't much time left. That drive was great though. Look how great the offense looks when they move fast.
Like I said, I believe this offense, specifically Martinez, would benefit going fast. Call the play, line up fast, run the play, repeat. Stop looking at the sidelines all the time for changes. It messes up the timing of the offense.

You can't get a good feel for how good a backup is when the game is already over. Fresh bodies will always look good on paper going into that situation.
Again, please reread what I originally posted. My post had nothing to do with "how good" they were. I was questioning why the second team's tempo was so much faster than the first team.
The second team would line up quickly, run the play, and repeat. All with great speed.
The first team would line up at an average pace, look over to the sidelines, make adjustments, run the play, and repeat.
I feel like the first team, specifically Martinez, would benefit going faster.

I think his issues are all in his head. He needs to stop thinking so much and just let it flow.
I think moving with greater tempo would help with this. I'm not sure why the first string has been moving so slow, but then when the second string came in, the tempo was very fast. Run the play, line up, snap the ball, repeat

So let's play our entire 2nd string for 3 1/2 quarters and see how they fare and then insert the first team offense!
What does this have to do with my question? Are you saying the second string was playing with more tempo because they were only in the game for a little bit?

Defense has been a pleasant surprise this year. The tackling has been hit or miss at times, but there are helmets flying towards the ball on every play.

Did anyone notice how much faster the offense was moving when Vedral and the other backups were in? Why isn't the first string going this fast?
-
Weird. There are tight ends on the roster

Does anyone know how good the competition was? I don't know anything about European basketball

That this team is still undefeated in practice

Line will be better this week now that Conrad is on the bench. He could be good serving as depth at guard so we can rotate a guy in but we looked much better with Farmer at C.
I think "much better" would be a stretch. Martinez seemed to be running for his life a lot throughout the whole game; including when Farmer took over at center. Thank god he can make plays with his feet.

Yeah, I thought it was pretty clever myself

Also, didn't Frost say they practiced well last week? Maybe I'm mistaken about that, but if he did, it definitely didn't show during the game.

Is Frost sure that the players practicing with enthusiasm weren't o-linemen? Like all five of them? Otherwise we should probably play a different QB. I actually fear for Martinez's safety this weekend.

Is it even possible to have a punt returned anymore?

I just want a back next year who is capable of breaking a tackle and getting YAC....
I want an offensive line that doesn't consistently whiff blocks.

Does anyone else find this to be a poetic end to the season? Just me?
Like I keep saying after every bad play, "Yep, that looks about right."

I have never been more excited for the end of the season to get here

I hope it's not Narduzzi. That would be very disappointing

I agree 100% I think I just used "most" so people wouldn't come back at me saying "this coach" or "that coach" should be retained. I would have no problem if everyone was given a pink slip.
Got it. I wasn't sure why you said "most", but this program isn't working, and much of that is because of the current coaches and staff.
I think TO made a mistake when he made Bo retain Watson and company. The AD should hire someone he trusts to do the job. Part of that job is picking the right assistants and coordinators.

Robinson is insane. Did Illinois players insult him or his family? He was running like a crazy person, not going down easily, and initiating contact with Illinois players. He's maybe 180 lbs., and honestly I would be surprised if he weighed that much. I agree with the person that said he looked like Abdullah running the ball. Quick, shifty, and extremely physical.
Washington is special too. Hopefully his injury (injuries) isn't (aren't) serious. He had a few cuts that were absolutely insane.
The offense looks better when they move with tempo. I think when they move fast, they think less, and rely more on muscle memory (i.e., they apply what they have repped in practice). The offense is very fun to watch when they are in rhythm.
How about the direct snaps to the RB?
Defense had some miscues, specifically a MLB, but they look like they get a little better each week. They definitely need to work on their angles more. Lots of players taking just really bad angles to the ball carrier.
It feels pretty good to be on the winning side of a game like this.
The kicking situation is really unfortunate. Not much more I can say about it.
Hopefully we can build on this game and give Ohio St a scare next week.
