  1. I think some of us will be surprised by how fast he turns this around. This will be a fun thread to visit this time next year.

The last year of the big 12, going into the first year in the big 10 there was a lot of talk of "has anyone won a conference championship in two different conferences back to back?" Of course we didn't win either, but Frost's ceiling is higher imo. It won't take long for that narrative to pop up.

By the second year I expect every game to start with the announcers talking about the Big Ten West's new threat, with a heavy dose of hype up to our first loss.

I'm not really sure what my point is aside from our expectations will probably bounce up pretty high after a couple years of mediocre pelini-level success. "Next year" will be ours again!!

This staff has obviously been doing their work and I’m impressed with the commits they have received.

At at this point, however, it’s a matter of having to trust the staff on evaluations. I’m excited to trust them.

Some (key word “some”) of these recruits are are not highly rated nor do they have offers from top programs.

I trust the the staff that these are good players that fit their systems.

    I hope they are right.

I don't follow recruiting very much, but isn't it pretty normal under circumstances like this? I remember hearing that Harbaugh's first class was horrible, he didn't have much time to piece it together. I think Frost is aiming as high as they can. We aren't going to flip many 4-5* at this point.

Thank God, I feel like I'm taking crazy pills here.

Some guy called me a UCF troll!

I'm still waiting for details to come out, but on our side, the story is that both were offered the same positions and raises and they decided to leave anyway. If Heupel ran them out of town, we'll be pissed at Heupel.

    But you're OUR troll!

I mentioned this on another board as a reason to hire Walters. Walters could be HC for the game, Frost could be his OC and then a lot of the awkwardness goes away. Like a band reuniting for one show, even though they're all going their separate ways after.

Most UCF fans are conflicted. We know that Auburn will be a tougher opponent than Baylor was in our last big bowl and that we have no chance with Heupel and a bunch of new assistants installing a new system in a few weeks. And I think most UCF fans admire Frost for actually wanting to be loyal to the players and not leave the school hanging.

The most complicating factor is the recruit poaching. I'm not really sure WTH Frost is thinking with that. You can either be magnanimous or screw over your former team in these situations, but there's not a lot of gray area.

You're already screwing over the team by taking all the coaches and making sure the team will not be the same one that shows up at the bowl. But you can explain it away as "we have a good team of coaches, we wanted to stay together, didn't know who the new coach would be" and if you come back for the bowl, I think all reasonable people understand.

But know one is forcing you to poach recruits. And I get it from Frost's perspective, most of these recruits committed to him and not the university and who knows if the new coach will want/utilize them. But it looks really bad. And it knocks down the magnanimity down quite a few pegs and leaves a lot of people very suspicious of what else you're capable of.

If I'm White, I tell him to stay away from the recruits or not coach in the bowl. Be a hero or a jerk, but don't try to be both, it just makes a lot of people unhappy.

Interesting that they hadn't joined Scott until now.  I would guess they were waiting to see what UCF would offer $ wise and then said "How cold could it really be in Nebraska?"

You can buy a lot of warm undies for 200-500k difference in salary

Its being reported by UCF beat writers that both Walters and Beckton were offered positions on the Heupel's staff.

This can't be good for Frost's legacy there, not that it matters (to me).

He's taking long time coaches, and going after UCF's offered and committed recruits... From Nebraska's perspective we have to take everything we possibly can to hit the ground running and I don't fault him one bit. It is a big upgrade for players and coaches across the board as far as potential at Nebraska, but man UCF is going to be starting from scratch in a lot of ways.

Good thing their football excellence fund was topped off.

I found it really interesting how many other fan bases felt Suh should have won the Heisman that year, and that was the beginning of the end for the importance of that trophy. If you're bored read a few of those comments, I thought it was Nebraska fans that thought Suh got robbed.

Now that Walters will not be the head coach I agree the dynamics have changed.  Heupel may want to 'start off on the right foot' with his new team by allowing Scott & Co. to come back and coach the bowl.  However, he may want to bring in his new staff and begin the new era using the bowl game as a kick off.  Frankly, as I'm sure these current players (who include all of the seniors) whom Scott has coached and taken through this entire undefeated season, would love to have Scott &  Co. come back.

When will that decision be made and who will make it?

I suppose it could change, but ESPN just scrolled on their ticker that Frost is officially coaching UCF for the Peach Bowl.

I'll root for UCF to win, but I really don't like Moos saying that this is a chance to showcase Nebraska and is like a commercial. That takes this season away from UCF some and adds a little insult to injury. Of course I could be reading into it too much, but that's my knee jerk reaction when I read that comment. I also know what he is saying is true, but it's a like salt in the wound to UCF.

Absolutely. Not to mention we are after a few of their current commits. I don't see the upside for UCF, except that they have no coaches...

  11. 1 minute ago, 4skers89 said:

It looks like we've offered 3 UCF commits.  Makes me wonder if there's been a split between Frost and UCF and coaching the bowl is becoming unlikely.  I suppose after Frost left it's possible they were going to decommit anyway so they are fair game now.

The fans are pissed, but I could see a player decommitting because they wanted to play in Frost's system.

One of the commits called Frost a liar. It seems weird for him to coach a team he is in competition with.

  13. UCF fans aren't happy with this, at least a share of them.

I wouldn't be either. They said before that quote from Moos that all it would be is a 3 hour marketing campaign for the cornholers. They're right, and it should be about UCF and their team, not us. I don't think we get much of a bump if any in recruiting by this, tons of recruits already saw the CCG and know what the offense looks like.
