  1. There is definitely a psychology thing going on and it starts at the top.

Instead of building on success, success is always followed by failure of equal magnitude.

Coaching and playing with a chip on your shoulder is begging for a massive letdown. Or 2 or 3.

I'm glad for six straight wins but if you don't get better in the process, look out below. Not enough focus on getting better.

  2. How many chances will you get to have bad record and still win the whole B1G? If I were coaching Wiscy, I wouldn't even remember who I was playing (Penn who?), everything would be geared toward keeping guys healthy and showing NU a bunch of crazy stuff to prepare for.

So you wouldn't care about winning the game? You go in with no game plan, and not caring, your going to get blown out by Penn State, and be a laughing stock of the conference. They beat PSU, and come out strong, that will give them the momentum for us.

Wisconsin will probably do what they have been doing all year long, make big plays on Special Teams, and run that ball down the opponents throat. Get Ball that TD to own the his record, and focus on NU starting Sunday. There will be film to watch, but they have played us already. That gives them and us the advantage.

That is correct, I wouldn't care about winning a meaningless conference game. I'd take it if it fell in my lap of course.

100% of my game plan would be toward winning a meaningful conference championship.

If you're not playing to win a championship this year, next year, some other year, what the hell are you doing in athletics?

  3. He'd have to be out of his mind to take on Arkansas. Good luck going to Auburn and beating Alabama, on the field or on the recruiting trail. Tennessee is the only one out of the SEC that would make any sense at all, and that is another multiple year project. Texas is a good gig if you can get it. Maybe they'd like to poke us by taking our coach.

Changing coaches again after 5 years would be bad for NU, wouldn't make sense for Bo, but also wouldn't surprise me.

  4. Do we know for sure if the roof will be closed? For an 8:17 PM game on Dec. 1st I would hope so.

I don't see the point in having the game at Indy if they aren't going to close the dome. I'm pretty sure it was closed last year.

Concur--and closed dome helps NU which is definitely in B1G's interest (11-2 NU or qa 4 or 5 loss B1G representative).

  5. I don't like this game at all. PSU ball control offense, opportunistic defense.

If we dig a hole with bonehead mistakes they won't return the favor and let us out.

Home field will help but won't necessarily save us. Smells to me like Northwestern last year.

  6. Defensive front rarely takes a good angle or is in an athletic position as they break down to make a play on the QB. This just in--you might have to change directions before impact so stay balanced and ANTICIPATE it. Heck, I can remember a bunch of times DB's who are good athletes blitzed and ran right past the QB. Shouldn't happen.

One thing about running QBs--they can't get hit like a RB. Not even Braxton Miller. Cut off his break angle, get a lot of people around him (dime defense on mid/long yardage), and then treat him rudely.

  7. Recruiting

Texas: THE PICK of the best recruiting ground in the country

Alabama: Good but not not like UT

    Not sure if serious...

Seriously...should have said Recruiting Base maybe...Texas has 5x the recruiting base Alabama has by virtue of population and UT gets the pick from all that. Then add a factor for the competitive landscape in TX HS football.

  8. What a difference a coach makes!!. Paul Rhodes took a very average iowa State program and has steadily built it into a very respectable football team. He already has 5 signature wins, or upsets. No one can tell me that Iowa State has better talent than Nebraska. Jim Harbaugh coached at San Diego state. His success at SDS propelled him to Stanford. Guess what?.... He did what good coaches do, he built Stanford into a consistant power in the Pac 10. Then moved onto bigger challenges... Bill Snider of Kansas State? what can one say? Those lucky (K State) bums!! Noone will ever tell me that coaches dont make a difference.

But yet we are here with our head coach Bo. (Maybe at best a head defensive cordinator). His personality, and his temper are his undoings. Because these things keep showing me has no business being a head coach. Its been 5 years, and there has been no change, with himself... He still wreecks radical behavior!! This and his loyality to his freinds, are killing Nebraska. What is going on here? I for one am tired of it. Heck? lets be truthful, I have been tired of it for the last 10 years. I was one of the people that gave him the benefit of doubt, at first, but? i have concluded that Bo Pelini will never be a great head coach, because he lacks discypline, with himself, and his players. Not to mention with his coaches....Get this?? Bo's best coach is a former Tom Osborne coach, Ron Brown, The evidence proves this. Because its the running backs that are the most productive staple of Nebraska's offense. But then? We fail again, because we do not exploit them at all, with any kind of consistantly. Because we have no identiy when it comes to offense. We are very similar to a swiss army knife. Looks good, but lets face it? how often does one really depend on an actual swiss army knife??? Its just more junk unless ur fishing on a Sunday afternoon.

Tim Beck? what can a person say other than maybe telling him that a square peg will not fit into a round hole. Why does he keep trying to make steak out of (mice) meat?.. His offense requires great thowers, and all world blocking.. Will someone please tell this guy we dont have the athletes to do his hypothetical offense.?. We have Taylor Martinez, not Peyton Manning, With Bo and Tim? we will never have this!! this offense works great against inferior teams, but? fails miserabley against teams that have just as good of athletes.. Its the same story over and over. These guys are all about tv, and headlnes. Todays Nebraska wants to keep up with the current times.. Its all about image, and looking good... We want to speed up the offense, and run a finesse spread. Why? I will tell you why, because that very offense is the current rage of college football. Because again its all about perception, Bo and Tim want to look good on TV. Like they are the the new, and cutting edge of football. Apparently they are concerned about tv image, than actual results..Well? they are wrong! and WE know it,.... My big question is? Whats wrong with the way Tom did it? Whats wrong with simplicity and brutality? if my memory serves me correctly, didnt Tom Osborne kick the crap out of Peyton Manning? Didnt Tom win 3 national championships doing it this way? Didnt Tom Osborne dominate the SEC? Hasnt the SEC won the last 5 national championships?

Nebraska defense is exactly like our offense. Bo wants the veiwer to really believe he is a master mind when it comes to defensive schemes. Maybe he was, but? Ndamakong Suh is gone now... This defense is to complicated, and its way to soft.....He better start coaching, and committing more people to actually stop a team......Bo's big excuse is always the same one "we didnt execute" well I got news for you Bo, if the defense isnt executeing out there, that tells me they are thinking to much. And when that happens, Nebraska will never execute properly, because its just like ping pong, if you have to think about hitting the ping pong ball, you will never be worth a dam, because the ball will already be bye you. And thats what is happening to us..... Again? complicated stuff and requires to much thinking.. Simplicity is always better. How about this??? This will help too!! Move Quincy Inunwa to linebacker? That guy whacks people!! when he hits people, they go down, and the ball goes flyingll!!

I will give Bo this? A great defense is harder to build than a great offense. But like i said earler our defense is to soft!! We are alot like Texas, but we dont have the great athletes.... I can gaurentee you this people? Bo Pelini will not be here to much longer. His temper will get the best of him, because he will not or can not stand the criticisms that will ultimately fall onto him by us, the fans.. I seen him last year waveing at the fans, when they booed him, because he cant stand being seen as a failure. SO he retaliates, with temper tantrums, and tirades......He has to much pride in not acheiveing. And he is doomed to fail because of his loyality to Tim, and his own ego.... So his only way out is to leave. I give him maybe 2 more years,............... then he will move onto greener fresher pastuers

Tim's offense is not helping Bo's defense one bit. Because Tim does not run any misdirection, nor does he do anything that takes anything away from the from the defense...His first priority should always always always be to take the defenses legs away first, to where the offense can pound on them later.... Have any of you ever seen Taylor Martinez run a naked bootleg?....nope me neither......The opposeing defense is always fresh...Its WATSONism 101, all over again, Beck's offense is built entirely on trickery..........lol.. I am so sick and tired of Taylor Martinez fumbling all the time, i am tired of interceptions, and I am tired of Tim Beck panicking.. I am tired of the game always being put on Taylor Martinez. . Its put there because it all comes down to Tim Beck. Beck is the biggest joke of them all.. Without Burkhead, and Abdullah? What has Nebraska actually done?. Seriously think about it?. My advice to Bo and Tim? Get back to the basics and enroll in a Milt Tenopir and Tom class. 'because Tim Beck has to be Tim Beck, well Tim Beck stinks!!

AS I sit here writing this, I am watching LSU vs South Carolina, I cant help but think about the old Nebraska. No matter how this game turns out, Both teams are slugging each other!! I formations, halfback dives fullback traps, play action passes, misdirections. Its Mano vs Mano...Its real FOOTBALL!! This game screams Tom Osborne.... Geez those lucky bums down there!!....... Here at Nebraska? we got Taylor Martinez's fumbleitest, our read option attack, and our spread junk offense. .... I am so sick of it because its always turnovers, turnovers, and more turnovers., because it all boils down to this. > ...we are weak, and thats the way we play..... Because its just sheet...being shoved down our throats by a couple of novice coaches....

Hmmmmmmmm lets see what we have at Nebraska? well? Nebraska has some great offensive lineman, Nebraska has some great I backs... Taylor Martinez is capable of throwing some catchable passes. Nebraska has some outstanding physical wide recievers!!!....... Nebraska has some of the very same ingredients that Tom's team had.. But dang? they are being wasted as usual with these guys, with egos, and perceptions....putting it bluntly, we are a joke, an imposter.. and todays Nebraska is wearing thin in Nebraska.

Thanks for posting...I couldn't get through it all but don't be offended by the natives. Some have trouble just moving on.

  9. It seems NU is in a similar position as UT, who is 4-2, just gave up 63 (on a neutral field!), and about to be not ranked. It made me think of:

    Recruiting

Texas: THE PICK of the best recruiting ground in the country

Alabama: Good but not not like UT

    Donor Support

    Texas: More money than God

Alabama: Good but not like UT

    Reach

Texas: Their own freaking TV network

Alabama: No network, but SEC reach

    Coaches

    Texas: NC coach

    Alabama: Best in the biz

So Huskerboard, the question is do the woes of UT and NU have anything in common? NU and especially UT both have the resources to be more successful than they are. Why aren't they? Or is Alabama going to give up 63 to Florida and that's just college football in 2012?

For some real fun, throw KSU in the comparison.

  10. I can never decide which is more ridiculous: the things people deem as new topic-worthy or the fact that they actually get replies.

At least it's another chance to vent...

NU can walk through Idaho St. That's it. Bo calling to win out is desperate. Fans calling to win out is delusional. If the other team didn't show up six straight times we'd find a way to go 5-1.

  11. Ditto...nice summary.

I have no problem with his comments except this: This is what he said they working on all off season. It's all we heard last January. Most of these fixes should be fixed.

For anyone who hadn't noticed, KSU is now ranked 6th. They are doing more with less. NU staff is doing less with what should be more. There's no hiding it anymore.

  12. I don't know how this season will play out--3-3 sounds about right to me--but I will say this past game felt like the beginning of the end. Hope I'm wrong. 5th year HC and still the ghosts of bad, bad losses getting worse. The end might still take a long time to play out. Coach's personality and image is going to work against him.

What do I want as a fan? A freaking football team that doesn't get embarrassed at every big boy stadium they visit. Maturity. Confidence. Mental toughness. Did I mention mental toughness?

  13. Black helmets were decent but what really was unique about this TTech like getup? Helmets could be WAY WAY cooler. How about a subtle graphic background?? Or a matte finish on the black helmet? Jerseys and pants were a yawner. Could have been worse (Wiscy). For a second I thought TTech was playing Indiana.

If we're going to do alternate uni's, channel our inner Oregon and do it right.

  14. I know there is a mega long thread on uniforms. OWH published some designs in today's paper not necessarily having anything to do with what the NU athletic department is looking at.

This post is about what's in the picture because a couple of the designs are damn cool.

I don't give a rip what the blue hairs think of it. I only care what kids we're trying to recruit think of it and if I were a kid, the corn helmet on the front page is cool and the pewter helmet with the larger red N is awesome. Also the uniform pictured under the corn helmet on the front page rocks.

Not a fan of the "giant N" helmets, though.

IMO, every major team will be forced to go down the path of futuristic looks--with the traditionalists screaming all the way--because THE KIDS LIKE THEM. I just hope we're one of the first and not one of the last.
